Stardew Valley has never had ads, or in-app limits. It's always been a one-and-done purchase with free upgrades.

I play little to almost no video games, but this one is fun. Never played it on iOS, though.
The idea is that if you never purchased the game to begin with, you can now download it at no extra charge if you subscribe to Apple Arcade.

Yes, I am, to me graphics are the most important piece of a game experience. Might and Magic I was fun at the time but I have no desire to go back and play it again.
I wouldn’t put graphics first. For instance, Baldur’s Gate is still a joy to play, despite being what, 30 years old? The same Leisure Suit Larry is a great game.

It’s been a trend for some time to mimic the 8-bit look in games, maybe to appeal to nostalgia. I don’t mind that, as long as the game is great in all other aspects.

Absolutely great game, but really needs a controller setup for your iPhone. Otherwise, you're better off playing it on another platform. Having played it on both a Switch and my iPhone, the console experience is a lot better because the multitouch controls are ... kinda terrible. (Not the dev's fault; there's just only so much you can do with a tap interface or on-screen "sticks.")
Yeah I was wondering how I would fight the cave monsters on my iPhone. I spent a lot of time in the caves when I was playing during the pandemic lockdown.

I have played some Harvest Moon games and Stardew Valley is my favorite of Thai genre.

Where I get bogged down and never quite finish is the getting married part. Who knew someone who has been married and partnered up for over 30 years could be such a commitmentphobe in these games?

So only positive review posts are allowed?

It's just a bad take considering the quality of the game. It's like saying Minecraft looks crap because the graphics are pixelated. People would dismiss that take too because it shows you just don't know what you're talking about. You can have whatever opinion you want, but don't expect people to respect it.

Wow, so only opinions that mirror yours are worthy of respect?!? That is the bad take. People can and do have opinions that differ from yours, you don't have to like it but you should respect it.

If you like the game I am happy for you, I think I have said something like that 3 times in this thread. I just don't like it.

Amazing how many people want to tell me I'm wrong for not liking the game but don't offer any reasons why, just attacks. Saying someone "doesn't know what they are talking about" because they don't like a game is pathetic.

Does everyone here at MR need to mirror your opinions of TV, Movies, Music, etc too?

Sad that you only respect opinions that are the same as yours, what a horrible way to live.

PS - Minecraft does look like crap, to me. If others like it, that is great for them. I do not expect everyone to have the same opinions as I do, unlike your narrow view of the world I do respect the fact that others may think differently.

If you're making some low quality mocking swipe at the game about the graphics, but you clearly know nothing about it in the first place, don't expect a warm reception. That's all.

What you do expect is to control people's reactions to what you say. It's like making a bad joke and getting mad that people didn't laugh.

If you liked Harvest Moon on the Super Nintendo then you'll love this. I have this on my Switch, but playing on my iPhone with Backbone controller would be a similar experience. I don't want to start a new save game tho..

I have it on the Switch and really like it. Very relaxing, fun story, a range of activities to keep you busy (interacting with townsfolk, exploring, mining, and of course planning your gardens and growing crops on a season by season schedule), charming pixel art and music. It's definitely not for everyone but I dig it. Seems like it might be rough using an Apple TV controller (there is real-time combat, for example) but we'll see.

What makes it "Stardew Valley+"? Sounds like the same game to me (which is a fantastic game by the way, anyone looking for a relaxing life/farming simulator should try it).
The + versions are a cop out by Apple from their own policy of only having exclusive mobile games on Arcade. Since many of their exclusive games are rather bland, they have started asking devs of popular mobile games to provide versions of their games and call them plus, so they are technically exclusive. If there are in app purchases, they are required to be stripped out. However, in the case of Stardew Valley, it’s simply the identical version to the regular game with a new label, as that game does not come with any in app purchases to begin with. Sometimes it’s cool because you get actual DLC and aren’t just relieved of a pay to play scheme as in the case of Dead Cells where you could actually call it a plus version.

No, people respect the opinions of people who have actually played a game before they trash it. The internet is full of basic, uninspired takes of “bad graphics must be trash” and those takes are a dime a dozen and usually spouted by uninformed adolescents. Try to be better. This game has compelling gameplay mechanics, depth, and storyline. You don’t need amazing ray traced graphics to do any of that.

This game was developed by one guy who did everything. Graphics, sound effects, software development, gameplay, QA, balancing, story, characters, dialogue, music tracks. The artistry and genius to pull off all of that by yourself and become one of the most successful indie games developed of all time is incredible. He later hired some studios to do ports.

To dismiss all of that because of a pixelated graphical aesthetic is a bad take. Like one of the worst I’ve seen. I’m not sorry for saying so either. I usually try to be empathetic to different points of view on these forums, and I’ve been lurking since 2005. This is quite possibly the worst take I’ve seen, especially given this game of all games. Sure there are lots of trash games that also have trash graphics. This is definitely not one of those games. Bad takes are bad takes and people will call you out for it. Deal.

So it seems like it’s not available to download on an Apple TV.

that’s a real bummer. I pretty much only play Apple Arcade games on an Apple TV, with a ps5 controller while lying in bed, and this game would be perfect for.

why wouldn’t they make it available on Apple TV? Does it not have controller options at all maybe?

Not going to waste my time playing something I know I won't enjoy. As I said before, there are plenty of great games out there but if they aren't visually unappealing that doesn't work for me.

I really had no idea how apparently popular the retro graphics look is (outside of Minecraft). If y'all enjoy it I'm happy for you, its just not for me.

I can't control how you interpret my opinion of the game.

Shocking, more veiled insults. This is the second article here at MR about this game, after the first I watched a couple of gameplay videos on YouTube and after seeing those I made the decision the game would not appeal to me personally. So not uninformed and sadly, no longer an adolescent, nice try though.

True, one could potentially make a great game with 8-bit graphics but sorry, not-sorry, it just won't appeal to me. There are plenty of games out there that combine all of your points above with great graphics, or at least graphics that don't look 35 years old.

This game was developed by one guy who did everything. Graphics, sound effects, software development, gameplay, QA, balancing, story, characters, dialogue, music tracks. The artistry and genius to pull off all of that by yourself and become one of the most successful indie games developed of all time is incredible.

Great job! I commend the dev.

To dismiss all of that because of a pixelated graphical aesthetic is a bad take.

No, it isn't, it is just my opinion.

Take music as an example, performer X can be widely regarded as a musical genius but if their "sound" just doesn't resonate with you should you be forced to not only listen to it but spout off about how much you love it? I couldn't care less how masterful the chord progressions are or the tempo changes were implemented if I simply no not enjoy the "sound".

Again, notice how I didn't single out anyone who likes this game and attack them? As a matter of fact I have acknowledged them and wished them happiness playing the game. I on the other hand simply registered my opinion, granted with a little snark or comedy and boom, here come the attacks.

Truly amazing how mad some of you are that I don't like this game and crapped on the graphics a little. Maybe y'all are the adolescent, keyboard warriors in mom's basement?

Hmm, seems there are hardships associated with it? Quite a few games on AA that never made it to ATV.

It would be only fair to mention that the game can be bought outright on the same app store for the princely sum of ... 4.99. Or you could pay 4.99 every month to play it, your choice.
That's been an interesting choice when I was on AA. I ended up playing Monument Valley 2+ even though I could just buy it for $5 on Android (and perhaps another $2 for the IAP). However, I figured it could knock it out fairly quickly (which I did). However, I was sure to play games that were truly exclusive, or "as exclusive as possible". Especially since I was on a free trial that I ended up not renewing (so time was a resource I needed to take into account).

I have to say playing this game on a touch screen is much harder than playing it on the switch or the Xbox. I've played it for hours on the switch and wanted to give it a try on my phone and I hated the controls 😅

If ONLY Leisure Suit Larry would make his way into Apple Arcade! And the graphics in Stardew Valley are deliberately low-bit or low-res by design. It's supposed to give that vintage gaming look and feel like Tiny Tower, etc.
Yeah right. Larry on a "family friendly" service.
