Of the two, which would you go for?

The price difference is only £130.

I want cellular, so it’s a decision between these two models for me (I like the colours.)

I understand that the screen of the SS is more durable, but I also read that the silver SS scratches easily? Surely this isn’t so?

I don’t want a watch that I have to baby. I just want to get on and use it.

Also, the SS is meant to be heavier. If this is so, is it that much heavier? For example, with a braided solo loop, would the SS watch “hang lower” or “stretch” the braided solo loop? Is the SS less comfortable than the lighter aluminium?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Comes down to personal taste and budget usually. If the budget is not an issue then one of the steel models would be my choice, whichever colour you prefer, in your case looks like you prefer silver. (I have graphite)

The weight is not an issue for the braided loops per se but my understanding is that they do stretch a little from wear because of taking them on and off. I have 4 braided loops and only use them if I want a ‘smart’ look so they are not worn that much. I tend to use sport loops daily and Nike bands for exercise.

Personally I like the weight of the steel. As for scratching…. My graphite S6 never suffered a scratch (neither has my S7yet) and my wife has always had silver SS they get micro scratches same as any steel watch but nothing to worry about IMHO and she’s never once felt the need to polish.

So you’re saying the braided solo loop can stretch over time, but this has nothing to do with the extra weight of the SS Watch, and more to do with constantly taking off and putting on?

By the way, is the weight difference between the SS & aluminium that noticeable?

Does the SS seem to “pull down” more on the wrist/band, thus requiring a band to be a bit tighter for example? Or is the weight difference not that different?

When running, does it tend to “move around” more than the aluminium?

Thanks for your advice.

The braided loop thing has nothing to do with the SS.

The weight is noticeable but not in a negative way in my opinion

The steel watch certainly doesn’t pull down and doesnt need to be any tighter, the fit and tightness to some degree is personal preference. The same as some people use one band for everything others use multiple bands and colours for different uses and occasions, for me this is one of the appealing aspects of the Apple Watch. I wear sport loops for daily use, Nike bands for gym, braided loops or Milanese for smart and just about to try the leather links. I’ve built up a collection of 30+ bands over years (and if You think I’m mad read some of the accessory threads 😂). I know this is slightly off topic but I mention it as you are clearly debating in your mind about owning an Apple Watch !

The best thing for you to do is go to an apple store and try the various combinations of bands and watches to see how they feel.

I chose aluminium for a few generations prior and I have to say stainless steel is the best. I’m now wearing the stainless steel S7 with the link bracelet and it looks so good!

The Link Bracelet came with my SS S0 and I’ve been wearing the band since 2015 despite having upgraded to several newer generations. It’s well worth the money spent.

Just had lunch in the pub, now I’m going to the Apple Store.

Still undecided.

Any last minute advice?

Aluminium with cellular or SS?

I’ve had a two or three SS watches since Series 0 and I bought the starlight this go round. I don’t miss the SS at all honestly.
I think the Starlight looks much nicer than the SS.

Do you feel the same, or do you actually think SS looks nicer?

My S3 was aluminum and since then, every year I have gone with the SS (silver (2x’s), gold and black). This year I decided on starlight. I find the starlight color very unique.

I also found it to be a nice colour.

I was comparing it to the SS and it just looked nicer to me. The SS looked almost plastic, by comparison.

I expected it to wow me, because everyone seems to say how much better the SS looks, compared to the aluminium, but I just couldn’t see the appeal.

I like my SS watches very much and I find them easier to “dress up” more than aluminum. I also prefer the sapphire screen. However, starlight to me is different and new and I wanted a change. Had Apple released the same silver aluminum of past years I would have gone with graphite this year.

I am kind of stuck with Al since I am not permitted to have a cellular device at work and I monitor my step count way too often. I usually get the black but the Starlight Al looks very nice.

Aluminium for me. I can throw on a screen protector. The extra money up front for the SS is pretty hefty, IMO, and then you get stung again with poor resale.
