I'm going to reserve my opinion about the statue for now (it's quite the contrary from most of the posts here), but here's a video with a more detailed view of the maquette.

That sounds sensible. Sculpture doesn't really work in small jpg format does it? :)

---

I can see why some people don't like it. I think it's interesting; a lot more so than what most of the people complaining here would likely commission.

he is one of the microsoft secret agents, trying to make apple workers gone crazy

I say they drop it in the central courtyard of the new mothership HQ: Steve will literally be, "a square peg in a round hole".

Here's to the crazy ones! :)

Pitiful! Of course, whoever the hell made it will justify it as art precisely because we are all commenting upon it. I'm in the wrong line of business.

That statue is absolutely horrible, it is neither minimalist nor stylish, which are the two things that Jobs really stood for when it came to his vision for Apple.

It really is hideous.

My my my.. such a kerfuffle.

One of the objectives of great art is to provoke conversation. By that metric, this work has succeeded wildly based on the comments.

Apparently a lot of people here don't understand art at all.

Horrible!

Maybe I'm too much of an engineer, but this thing is just Horrible! If I were Steve, I would NOT want to be associated, let alone attacted to this monstrosity. Show some respect for the man. I was scratching my head to think of the absolute worst Apple product to compare it with, but I couldn't come up with anything. It's in a catagory of its own. Well maybe, no upgrade paths in the MAS.

Best post in the thread.

It's modern art by a renowned sculptor. It's not supposed to look pretty. If they wanted pretty they could have got a vase of flowers or a schmaltzy painting of Jobs by Jack Vettriano.

I'm just joining the choir of folks singing their dislike for this sculpture. It neither is asthetiocally pleasing, nor in my mind is a good representation of who he was or what he was about.

Personally I think if someone is going to pick a statue, that it should be Laurene's (his wife's) decision and honor.

The overwhelming majority says otherwise .

Which pretty much proves it is good. QED.:D
Seriously, it's pretty typical that new art is derided by the masses. Some famous examples: French Impressionist painting, and "The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du printemps)". The readers of MacRumors are not exactly the most open-minded set when it comes to accepting things that don't fit their narrow expectations. Note the number of people who think it should have looked like an Apple product!

I don't even care about stuff like this but had to comment because that thing is the worse representation of the idol leader that Apple once had.

Forget the fact that the head looks nothing like Jobs, what about the stupid, randomly assigned letters and numbers at the bottom that virtually have no meaning? Sure, 1 and 0, but numbers and programming wasn't what Jobs was known for.

"Picard to Riker...can you hear me?"

Is that 'aluminium'? Nice touch with the :apple: pin on his chest. Reminds me of the communicators they used in Start Trek TNG.

Really...I'm trying to imagine the other pieces that weren't selected. I want to be open-minded, and imagine how this might grow on people over time (most Parisians didn't like the Eiffel Tower when it was first built), but I just don't see any way this connects to his life's work, even in an abstract fashion.

It certainly shouldn't be a 'touchy-feely' Jobs, walking with kids or anything like that. But there needs to be something...relatable...about the piece?

Actually...a communicator-like device might be better than what I'm hearing about this iWatch thing...but I digress.

Peace be with you.
