Apparently the video of him being killed is on the net? I haven't seen it. It's not on YouTube.com, but it might be on P2P networks though. IMO I think it's kind of disrespectful to him.

So what do we do now? Will Animal Planet continue to play his shows? I haven't watched the Croc Files or whatever it was called in about two years. This news makes me want to watch and I feel rather sad that there will be no more "crikey!" shows to come.
Well, Bob Ross (The Joy of Painting) died way back in 1995, and they still show his show on PBS... so I'd say that Animal Planet will probably continue to air Steve Irwin's shows... and they'll probably use them as the basis for some sort of pro-environmental awareness campaign.

Seeing as how the footage was seized by the police, I rather doubt it's out there... but if it is, I'd encourage people not to watch it. It would be like watching a snuff film.

There isn't a nice way to see someone pass but I would think that he went in a not to pleasant way to watch.

I agree - I really doubt it's on the internet, but if it was, I would never watch it.

Love, Peace, RIP steve

You loved your environment, you loved your conservation. You are a hero, an icon of mans ability to utilize the full potential of his physical ability, to block out fear and trust in yourself, have fun walking the wildlife tracks of heaven, I'm sure plenty more adventures await you.

What saddens me most is the fact that this 1 in a million event was captured on film.

Imagine what his family had to witness. Watching him pull out that barb from his heart and die in glorious HD resolution. Its just unreal :(

Theres also a picture going around on the internet - a BBC News24 spoof.

It's bad taste but the link is here (i wont post the picture directly out of respect)....
dont blame me for this please - i really liked the guy.

sorry i decided to take the link off as soon as i posted as of the offence/hurt it may cause.

Irwin was propelled to global fame after his TV shows, in which he regularly wrestled with crocodiles and went face-to-face with poisonous snakes and other wild animals, were shown around world on the Discovery Channel.

The network announced plans for a marathon screening of Irwin’s work and a wildlife fund in his name.

“Rarely has the world embraced an animal enthusiast and conservationist as they did Steve Irwin,” Discovery Networks International President Dawn McCall said in a statement.
OK, I did get the network wrong, but still...

Steve Irwin was a guy that I loved to hate...but I was surprised to find myself really saddened at the news of his death. He was a popular and positive (if sometimes silly) character, and it's a tragedy for everyone.

R.I.P. Steve!

Late to add my condolences here, but I was truly saddened by this event. I guess you have to figure when you spend your life in risky endeavors, something is bound to happen. I just thought he'd be eaten by a gator or something, not this - which is amazingly rare.

He'll be missed, and I do feel for his family. :(

I said this in the PF thread, but I thought I would echo it here to share with others...

Steve got me to realize that stopping to smell just the roses is never enough.

My kids will grow up watching his shows.

He was, is, and will always be a legend.

Really an icon of this generation, and a true trailblazer for wildlife education and conservation.

A man who wrestled 15 ft crocodiles, swam with sharks, and had been bit by snakes, was killed by one of the ocean's most harmless creatures.

I know I'll never accept the fact that he's gone, and through his work, I don't think he ever truly will be.

RIP Steve :(

I think the hardest hit might be his wife. I mean, they did many shows together and had great chemistry on screen. Probably off screen as-well. Sad to see such a great guy go. :( RIP in peace Steve.

There is no video on the net. If there is then it has obviously come straight from the guy that filmed it and that would be just stupid. However there was talk from his friend (i think) that it may be aired on tv at a later date as it is "what Steve would of wanted". This comes from a BBC radio interview snippet.

If you ask me its not the right thing to do but I am strangely curious as I think a lot of other people are.

Still sad though :(

The "What Steve would HAVE wanted" clip comes from a television interview from a mate who had viewed the footage, at the coroner's, of the attack. He experienced difficulty in describing what happened, the media gathered uttered things like "It's OK mate" and he replied "No, it's what Steve would have wanted" - referring to the description of the accident so that nobody was left without proper knowledge.

I got stung by a sting ray on the ankel when i was young, it was the most painful thing i have ever felt, no wonder he had a heart attack

RIP MATE

Where are the 30,000 other threads for the other people that died that day or the day before that? It sucks, but tens of thousands of people die daily, and I don't see any love for them.

I'm not saying it isn't alright to praise the name of someone who died, nor am I trying to be a cold-hearted bastard, but just pointing out the fact that everybody dies. Nothing new.

Though it is nice that he passed while doing what he loved. You couldn't ask for much more. :)

Yes, it is true that many people die every day, it is just that Steve Irwin was a very famous and rememberable guy whom left an impact on many people. :)

And he was 44, which is a young age to die at

There are a lot of famous people I couldn't give two ***** about. Fame is dispensable.

whom left an impact on many people. :)

No kidding. :) While an impact could either be positive/negative his was definitely a positive impact.

Well, that can be relative to environment. I'm sure the life expectancy for croc-wrestling, sting-ray-swimming Australian isn't too high.

Personally, I don't think humans were meant to live in their 80's and 90's. Some, of course, get by just fine at that age but most require assisted living quarters or nursing homes. It's when your body and mind just deteriorate into nothing essentially.

First your parents take care of you, then you take care of your parents. Or as my mom puts it, "Just like I had to, your gonna have to change my diapers when I'm old!"
