I'd like to see AirPlay enabled for streaming (at least music) from Mac to Device or Device to Device. Almost like turning a device into an AirPort Express. That way I could use my old iPhone 3g on a remote set of speakers and yet still have access to my entire library of music stored on my MBP. I used to be able to do something similar when Simplify still worked but the sound quality was lousy and you had to control it directly on the iPhone while it was docked. If AirPlay worked from Mac to Device, the sound would be much better and I could control everything from the Remote App on my current iPhone. I could always get another AirPort Express, but enabling it on devices seems like it would be a natural and useful update for AirPlay. Also it would allow you to stream the music to your yard or other places where you might not have an outlet readily available for the AirPort.

I still am experiencing mixed results while trying to use AirPlay from my iPhone 4 to my 2d gen Apple tv. I have iOS 4.2.1 on the iPhone 4 and iOS 4.1 on the 2d gen Apple tv, plus, I am using a 1 TB time capsule for purposes of establishing a WiFi connection.

The AirPlay icon literally will come and go on my iPhone 4 as I try to utilize the application: one minute, I'm able to stream a song or movie from my iPhone 4 to my HDTV via the Apple tv and the next minute, the AirPlay icon is gone and I cannot play the song/movie.

Curiously, AirPlay works very smoothly on my son's iPad (with iOS 4.2.1), yet my other son's 4th gen iPod touch (again with iOS 4.2.1) exhibits the same erratic behavior as my iPhone 4.

Has anyone else experienced similar bugs? Any workarounds?

Yes - same issue. Sounds like a bug report should be submitted. I wonder if there is another thread about it.

Haha This is my email!!!

I sent it to him on Saturday and got a very quick reply :D I cannot tell you how delighted I was to get it :). Really can't wait to have airplay in every app!!!

unless you have an ancient TV, most TV's these days will play media directly from a USB stick. same with playstation and x-box.

what is the point of buying an Apple TV when you can just buy a USB stick?

airplay beats the other methods when it comes to web based video....I can stream my NFL ticket games to the tv if I want or send music videos from vevo.....the other methods via USB or xbox, etc are content I would have already downloaded...this is more for quick play

The feature of airplay I would love them to add would be to stream a movie (including those purchased on iTunes) from my mac to my iPad or iPhone.

This is partially why I bought the AppleTV, but it looks like yet another Apple over promise/under deliver.

2011 is actually just a little over a month away. However, it could be anytime in 2011.

Still. I would greatly welcome Airplay for Safari and other apps, like it. This would help for videos not played through specific channels.

My videos, well, they're already convenient. Anybody with an Atv, or any unit capable of playing direct Youtube videos can play my stuff.

You are getting better results that me. I am unable to see my 2nd Gen AppleTV from my iPhone 4. Remote app doesn't work either with my AppleTV, but does work with my iMac. I dunno.

Hey that's great - but I still want Airplay audio enabling for my old ATV v1. I'm not greedy, you can keep the video side of things. This works from iTunes why not my iphone?
iPhone to my old AE boxes - yes. Just frustrating as my ATV is connected to my stereo.

I'm seeing similar results. In addition, using the Remote app on my iPhone 4, when I connect to the AppleTV, I'll frequently get disconnected from my Wifi access point (using the AT&T UVerse Wireless Gateway).

In addition, it takes 2-3 minutes to access my wife's music list on the AppleTV2. Not sure if this is related to the AppleTV2 being connected via Wifi, or her slow PC, or her large music library, or a combination of all 3.

I'm thinking of running Cat5e to see if it helps with the disconnect issues. Or maybe it's just a software issue.

You will get a similar reply like yours......arrogant and rude

Maybe if you were CEO of one of the most successful companies ever you'd have more time to sit down and be chatty on every email you get?

It's actually just impressive you ever can get one liners out of him as busy as he must be throughout the day and week.

Wish list...

It seems silly that we cannot stream any and all content from an iphone, ipad, ipod touch or mac to an apple tv device, when the microsoft is running commercials showing their new phone's ability to stream live video taken from the phone to the web. I have drunk the Apple Kool Aid, but that commercial makes Microsoft seem more cutting edge.

I would like to be able to send Pandora to Apple TV (which is connected to the audio system throughout the house) and sporting events that are streaming from the web using my ipad. For that matter, why Pandora is not an imbedded app in Apple TV is beyond me.

Also, I wish that when I make the TV a "second screen", that when I hit full screen for the video content that I am watching from the web using Safari, that it renders the "other screen" on my mac unusable, since once I try to use it , the full screen minimizes automatically. Frustrating.

It would be nice to be able to address every capable Apple device with airplay. Why I can't stream TO my Iphone? Maybe I want to stream Musik to it or even video?! I still have to use Airfoil. I would love to see this as a native implementation.

The video support is pretty much useless at this moment unless you have an AppleTV. I think 2011 is just right when 3rd party devices start coming out with video for much cheaper price.

I find it funny how Steve only bothers to come off his cloud and reply to emails written in an over-the-top grovelling/brown-nosing/praising style.

I wonder how far I would get if I sent him an email saying "Hey Steve, I just spent a wad of hard-earned cash on an iPad after hearing about Airprint and yet your latest iOS update seems to have make it a crippled and useless 'feature' that is nothing like the hype you stirred up. When are you going to apologise and keep your ****ing promise...dude"?

I don't know. Which question would YOU respond to? Some dickwad who expresses disappointment in an insulting manner, or someone who just says, "I'm disappointed in x. Will you improve it?"

I want Perian for the iPhone

No idea if that's possible, but I'd love the ability to play back all the formats that that makes possible.

LOL! Love your response to this guy... seems some people think Steve Jobs has nothing better to do than answer emails. They should try to email other CEO's and see how far they get.

Get Justin.tv's app, and stream live from the iPhone to the web. Done.

"Hope to add in 2011"? I'm not holding my breath, sounds like it's not really close at all.

Must admit I had the same sort of thought. Given what google is going through with googleTV, and the amount of content that is readily available on the iPad but *not* on a non-"connected" TV (which face it is the way most households are set up) I wonder if the roadblock is rights holders...

On the XMas list is both an AppleTV and iPad.

I have a Mac Mini currently pulling duty as a media center hooked to the TV. I would like to move the Mini into the back room. In its place I would like to put the AppleTV and stream MP4 video from the Mini to the AppleTV and possibly the iPad.

As the updates stand now, is streaming like this from the Mini possible to either device? Or is this possible future update what I would need?
