+ 1. I can't believe im actually talking so negative about an Apple product. I freaking love the iPhones but mine is completely unusable. I actually have to go back to a 3GS pending a fix for this. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have to do this.

Really? Completely unusable?

Given the description of the issue and reported cause, wouldn't it be usable if you just are a little careful about how you hold it?

While it may seem like I'm sniping, I am really curious. I'm not seeing this issue with my i4 but my understanding is the issue is pretty avoidable based on how one grips the phone.

None of which excuses Jobs response. I love the guy's chutzpah and what he brings to Apple as well as the industry as a whole, but his arrogance knows no limits.

I don't know if my phone has it worse than others but mine seems to lose signal no matter which way I hold it. Even if I completely avoid the left side, I lose all my signal within seconds of picking it up.

Apple has been getting destroyed on talk radio today. Limbaugh was making Steve Jobs look like a joke. So was another host.

lol wow.

The PR head at apple must want to kill SJ right now.

What a stupid response.

I wouldnt worry about being SJ right now....Id be worried if I was the engineer who was in charge of developing the concept and testing it

I dont have any issue with my phone though...so who knows.

That makes me wonder if this is somehow a QC issue rather than a design flaw. Mine seems to work fine, no matter how I hold it.

Someone at AT&T is letting out some big sighs for now...

"Whew, at least they're not yelling at us right now... Just wait until FaceTime goes 3G. We'll be screwed!"

This is a non-documented feature. You have a dangerous chemical imbalance that will probably lead to a stroke in the next 24 hours. Seek medical help immediately!!!

Here's to betting Iphone 5's revolutionary fix to the antenna issue. Do you know why it works better with screen protectors and cases, it's lacking a hardened plastic insulator which prevents radiation upon contact. Yes, its that simple, maybe a silent hardware revision will be released.

The funny thing is. Steve never said it was our fault. He told us to hold the phone another way, if we wanted a better signal. Which is actually the truth. Any other company would make some fancy statement. But i respect Steve and Apple for just telling it to us as it is.
I mean he didn't lie! So what is everybody complaining about?

Bad PR? Definitely.

Stops people from buying one? Hell no.

But might stop me getting an early upgrade 'till this is sorted one way or another, especially as my 3GS is a whole new phone with OS4 :D

I know I'm not the first to say this but it seems to keep getting forgotten.

I had this exact issue on my 3GS. Phone on table has five bars but drops quickly when picked up.

Same here. Seems to me the OP has a bee in his bonnet. Poor OP.

Thanks for the absoltuely worthless post.

I don't have cancer. You probably don't think that cancer exists either then, right? OWNED

Nobody else does.

LOL! LMAO! ROFL!

How is it going to magically detect if you are holding it in your hands or not and appropriately adjust? This is a hardware issue. It cannot be fixed by anything short of another revision.

God you noobs who have no clue make me laugh.

Or, as some have proposed, it could be part hardware / part software, where software is exacerbating the issue. As some have proposed, when the interference from skin contact gets introduced, the antena (as a result of SOFTWARE) could be overcompensating in it's adjustments and looking for another cell tower, causing the whole signal to drop out. In other words, it's not a matter of "magically detecting" your hand, it's about properly compensating and adjusting.

To simply say "LULZ I'M A CODER!!!" really doesn't give me much confidence that you have a high degree of technical understanding of the advanced engineering issues behind cellphone technology. You're grossly oversimplifying the issue.

I don't understand.....if the CEO of Apple states that there is NO issue with the hardware/software in regards to all these reports of antenna reception issues, then why does Apple (in-store or via Apple customer service) let people return their iP4's and give them new ones? You usually only do that if there IS A PROBLEM.

Correct me if i'm not getting this.....

Mentioning "someone at AT&T", the funniest thing I've heard said about this was when I was in my local AT&T corporate store yesterday looking at cases. One of the employees comes over and asks if they can help me, and I said I was just looking at iPhone 4 cases. He asks why do I want to put such a durable phone in a case, and I mention that I have the antenna issue with mine. He nor anyone working in the store had heard about it, so I showed them several times on mine. The manager had walked over as well (along with the other 3 people working the store at the time), and after about the second time of my phone going to No Service, he said outloud (just audible to me and the few employees) "oh sh**.... iPhone people are going to be blaming us for No Service issues". I said no, it seems more of a hardware problem, since it's related to these specific spots on the phone, and he said "doesn't matter, the average person doesn't know that or care. They will think reception, and blame AT&T as usual."
