doesnt bill gates/microsoft own a large percentage of apples stock rendering the companys decisions somewhat limiting? somebody correct me on this, but ive had friends tell me microsoft owns a large chunk of apples stock so they cant do whatever they like.

MS owns a tiny share. The feds would never allow a large or controlling share due to monopolistic rules.

Uhm, so Apple is in a pissing match with both Adobe and Google.... Great....

As to Flash, sorry, but only a retard would purchase a web-browsing product without Flash support. I don't care whose fault it is - if Apple is the only company out there without Flash support, it's Apple's problem.

And really, it's all hogwash for the stupid, to deflect from the real reason, which is that Apple doesn't want to lose App Store revenue.

HTML 5 is fine, but it doesn't do much that Flash does, and it's nowhere near the 100% adoption rate of Flash. Most likely, even when HTML is more widely adopted, Flash will still be there for more complex tasks (Flash is not only video and ads, you know).

To be honest, by locking out Flash content, Jobs is making sure that his claim, that Google wants to kill the iPhone, will come to be. With full Flash support, Android will have a big stick to beat on Apple with. I guess the iPhone may survive it, but the iPad is dead in the water with Flash, IMO.

He was revving up the troops-- I don't put too much faith in his assessment of future releases. Of course he's going to tell the team that the next iPhone is going to trump Android, and of course he's going to tell the team that the 2010 Macs are going to be exciting.

What's interesting though is hearing a little of the rationale behind decisions.

Out innovate Google is a reasonable strategy-- the big G is a company with plenty of distractions. I'll be interested to see how it plays out-- Apple tends to be quite conservative in feature adoption, which risks looking "slow" or "dated" when viewed in the short term. As Android throws in the kitchen sink and iPhone goes with slow and steady, will users recognize innovation through the noise?

Umm...Multitasking? Flash support? Removable battery? Keyboard?

I could care less about these, those of us who are getting hit the hardest are the pro users. Where is the love for us? Obscene profit margins, old parts, neglect in both software and hardware updates, I guess Apple really is taking the direction of a consumer electronics company now :(

Thanks! Read the link, its is also possible without using the terminal command. Just press and hold opt+cmd when you click on an application icon in the dock; it will hide all other windows.

all good :) even when M$ had the shares they didnt have any control over what apple did.

same sort of situation here in australia. we are so far behind :(

Yeah, they were non-voting shares, so they didnt have much power, only profits.

LOL, i stand somewhat corrected.

Multitasking - The screen is not big enough to be able to do 2 things at once anyway.

Flash Support - Have you ever run flash on a droid? Its awful. The dropdown menus barely work.

Removable Battery - The iPhone battery lasts longer plus less than 1 % of all cell phone users carry backup batteries.

Keyboard - I can type fast on my iPhone than most people can type on their 2 inch keyboard on a droid based phone.

1) Multitasking can setill be performed even without applications sharing the whole screen. Suppose youre chatting with someone over AIM or Fring, and you get a link to Safari. Youre not going to quit one app to go to the other and then quit that to go BACK to the other, are you? My Nokia E71 allows multitasking. Its never occured to me, but if it didnt, i'd find it VERY annoying. I switch between applications on my nokia all the time, particularly when looking at web page information i want to send to a friend via text message. There are of course other cases, but its clear that the lack of multitasking is unforgiveable.

2) Nokia N900 runs flash perfectly fine, and its hardware specs are even lower than the ipads. Flash is awful because adobe ported it to OS X poorly. Runs perfectly fine on windows.

3) It actually doesnt, apples had an amazing history with poor battery life. The iphone doesnt do so well, and i dont see the ipad doing much better given apples history.

4) I'd love to challenge you to a speed typing competition but im wicked fast on my nokia e71 and its got one of the smaller qwerty tactile keyboards of the smartphones. The androids have a much bigger keyboard so im sure comparing that to a small and inaccurate touchscreen iphone will be quite a difference in accuracy and speed. I've tried on many occasions to get used to an iphones and ipod touches touch screen and touch keyboard, and the number of mistakes i make turn me off more than rosie o'donnel.

About time we see some spicy pissing contest here. Waters were a bit still.. even with iPads announced.
I wouldn't want to be on the Google's side right now: how they managed to piss Apple should make the question of the decade

The Apple/Google dynamic is turning out to be really fascinating.

Apple hasn't a had a serious rival in a while (the Microsoft stuff has been just formulaic for over a decade now). It will be interesting to see them in full fight mode.

+1! Already I can feel the blood pumping... it's like 1991 again when Apple v Microsoft actually mattered.

We need blood on the tiles to keep it interesting. ;)

They left out the part when Jobs said Google's slogan, "Don't Be Evil" was "********".

Besides that... I want an A+ iPhone upgrade. Give me a reason to replace my 1st Gen! Don't get me wrong I'm glad my nearly 3 year old phone still cuts it, but I think I'm ready for more. I'll let my current iPhone live on with my Dad.

He didn't say Google's "Dont Be Evil" was "********". He said it was a "load of crap".

As for blu-ray coming to Mac platform, SJ doesn't like the implementation of the software as well as the market hasn't caught on. He joked about the software sucking, loading a movie, make a sandwich and the disc was still loading. How is this user experience enjoyable?

I was glad to see SJ so candid, a bit surprise with the Android and Adobe comments.

Hey hey I know I know. I'm just saying that the guy asked how people can say droid is 'as good or better than iphone, but they can never say how droid is better'. Those were the first four that popped into my head.

That said, 'better' is always subjective. The batter is good enough for me, I love the soft keyboard, I'm pretty ambivalent about flash and will do fine without it until it dies and is replaced....but I *do* love the multitasking. It's the one reason I still jailbreak (after Google updated the Google Voice webapp, I don't use GV Mobile anymore)

You wanna know how Google pissed off Apple ?

For 2 years Eric Schmidt sat on the board of directors and all the while he was taking notes on the iPhone and upcoming improvements. He would then send that info to the Google labs teams and they sat in there and tried to duplicate the functions and ascetics of it. While he was stealing info from Apple he was kissing Job's ass.

It's time Schmidt got what's coming to him.

As far as Adobe is concerned they have had several years to transition from Carbon to Cocoa and they haven't done it because they make more money from Windows.

It's also time Adobe got what's coming to them.

Unibody iPhone FTW!!!!

I have a feeling that 2010 is going to be a very important year for Apple... good or bad.

I'm looking forward to what Apple has in store for the iPhone if it is an A+ update.

If its anything like the iPad, they'll offer DDR3 1333 and call it the best thing to hit laptops EVER!

If it's anything like the iPad, they'll remove support for Flash and require all 3rd-party software to be approved via the App Store. And call it the best thing ever.

Yeah, they were non-voting shares, so they didnt have much power, only profits.
they wouldnt have been complaining ;)

i said to do that way! i have an E63, same as yours kinda. i love how they have implemented multi-tasking! no complaints at all. :) apple please follow suit!

Mr. Jobs please bring it to the table and make everyone shut up. I cannot wait to see the new OS. I'm glad we have closure to the flash issue. iPhone 4.0 is right around the corner!

CS5 is going to be pure Cocoa. I cant wait until its released, its also going to be fully 64 bit, as in I can push the bounderies of photoshops 3gb ram usage limit.

But I do agree theyve been slow and lazy with it. I also don't really understand why its taking adobe to rewrite the flash plugin properly for OS X. Its just a plugin, how difficult can it be for them?

I used to be a massive skeptic of bluray and always argued for digital downloads. However after purchasing a player myself bluray at this moment in time is simply way a head of the digital download market. The picture quality and the uncompressed sound is simply on a differerent level. The compression levels on downloads simply does not give HD justice. Now don't get me wrong I use iTunes all the time to rent as it good enough to watch a quick movie but anything HD to keep bluray wins hands down. Now maybe when someone figures out A way to make true HD quality and sound that is not lost in downloads then we have something. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of all things HD regardless where it comes but at this moment in time there is no competition. Give it a few more years. Before anyone flames me remember I do support the download model but we need to give it more time before you convienced any film fanatic. :) at pesent for me it's iTunes for renting and bluray for keeping (as there only a few films worth keeping these days). That's my 2 cents. :)

If you are serious, the term "A+" is analogous to the grade in school. So if something is really good, people describe it as "A+"

Thanks, I was totally serious, I still dont get it.

Of course the next version of something will be better but to describe the item as a "A+" seems a bit wet to me.

Its like bringing out a new model of a previous car and saying "Hey the upgraded model will be A+!". wow, kind of holds a big cliff hanger right? not.

Maybe I was holding on something tangible being said as I still have a 3G and hate its sluggishness compared to the 3Gs. I am in the market for a new iphone and am trying to hold out until the new one but am tempted to buy a 3Gs on PAYG then sell it when the new one comes out.
The term "A+" doesnt make me want to hold out.

Ok, this news item is either fake or Steve has officially lost the plot and proved that he is biggest hypocrite in the world and full of BS...

There is no third option - it is one of the two mentioned above...

If article isn't fake then just LOL at it :D

1. From what I saw what Android is capable of doing no wonder he is ******** his pants. It OWNZ iPhone OS hands down!

2. Looking just at a single device that supports Android - Dell Mini 5 - it OWNZ iPhone even hardware spec / design wise! (and I am sure number of similar and better devices will appear soon as well)

3. While Adobe can and should do more, no doubt about it, calling them "lazy" is so unprofessional and ridiculous having in mind that it took Apple 3 REVISIONS OF THEIR OS to include basic and fundamental feature such as frekn COPY & PASTE! By the way, no multi tasking support as yet... So much for someone being "lazy"... LOL!

4. Quote: "Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy..." - well sir:

a) You do support Flash because I and millions of others are happily running it on our Macs!

b) It NEVER crashed my browser and since last update it is running almost as fast and bug free as Windows version!

c) 10.1 version of the player should be even better still - but shame you locked yourself in some weird selfish bubble and don't won't to work with Adobe to make it run as well as it possibly can on our Macs...

d) As for caring about "bugs", perhaps it would be cool to focus on bugs in your own Safari browser, OS and software and let others take care of their own problems...

e) By the way, have you ever heard for term "freedom of choice". I guess not...

5. Quote: "Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash."

Dear Steve - my Mac never crashed in last 3 years running Flash - however my Safari did crash 3 times the other day when I tried running HTML5 video on it! So much for your vision of wonderful future...

6. Quote: "No one will be using Flash, he says. The world is moving to HTML5."

LOL just LOL! Hahahahahahaha!

For the end, dear Steve, you lost one customer due to your arrogance, hypocrisy and blindness and I am sure I won't be the only or last customer you are going to loose. Perhaps it doesn't really matter to you since you live in your own little bubble world which might not burst soon, but frankly, with such attitude it is just question of time - but hey, such is life :)

All the best with iPad, HTML5 and lazy things...

It will happen.

Anyone ask him if they're going to start outputting audio through mini-DP this year?
That's the biggest problem with macs for me, I hate running 2 cables to the monitor/tv like it's 1999.

I predict we'll soon see MDP v1.2 (with audio support) across the entire line of Apple products (where appropriate). This will support 2560x1600 resolution and eliminate the Dual-Link DVI garbage (found on the current 30" LED Cinema Display). I also predict that all Apple screens will see improved resolution; I'm particularly eager to see 1440x900 resolution on the 13.3" MBP and I'd like to see the 24" LED Cinema Display get 2560x1600 resolution as well.

I'll never understand the whole "Flash crashes browsers" argument.
I've used Flash for years, and it's never once caused a browser crash. Ever.

Wanna know what has? Apple.com.
