'Original' font?

Anyone else notice that with this book, in iBooks, there is a choice of 'Original' as a font? None of my other iBooks offer this choice (I usually choose Georgia). Is this the first iBook that features an embedded font? Seems appropriate if so.

I just bought it instantly at 8pm PST and it kept getting errors most likely from traffic but it eventually worked.

Pre-ordered and it downloaded automatically when I opened iBooks. Started reading, but have to call it a night. Will continue on my iPhone tomorrow. So far, I think it's great - really gives the reader a whole new insight into Steve's personal and professional life. What an amazing person he was.

Downloaded on iBooks but you can't read it all the text is squished up and stacked. Anyone else notice this?

The sample seems to have corrupted text in it... That stopped me from buying it. I'll wait for them to fix the sample, which should reflect on the full version.

I have also been debating between eBook and hardcopy, and I would like the hardcopy, even tho I may never read it; I would rather read the eBook on my iPad, which I can read at night.

Thinking about it, one reason why Steve made the iPad is so we could move on to eBooks. Otherwise his invention would have been for nothing.

I may just wait for a hard copy to become available at a later time. In the meantime I'll get the eBook once it gets fixed.

UPDATE: The sample just fixed itself. I think it just needed some time to update. When I first loaded it, there were only 38 pages. Now it has 111 pages in total, and all seem perfect.

The way he wanted it...

I am reading it on my iPad2, the way I believe Steve would want it to be read.:apple:

Received the email about preorders now available. Clicked on the link and I get a box stating "All Pre-Orders Have Been Fulfilled, Check he downloads area on this device, or select Check for Purchases from the Store menu on your computer"

Well, I did check and nothing has been downloaded. It's not appearing in my ibooks.

Hmm...

To date, we've only purchased e-books through Amazon, and 99% of the time, we're reading them on iOS devices. Given the subject matter, it feels "right" to buy it through iTunes/iBooks :)

Just trying to determine which reader is better, specifically on the iPad (which is where I'll be reading it) ? Kindle seems to be more flexible with the availability of a Mac and PC client. I'm setup to buy through both (and have).

I still wish someone would offer a print/digital bundle, where you buy the printed version and get the digital download for a small additional fee, like $5.00. Kind of the same model as the Bluray/DVD/Digital movie bundles.

Good catch! But it's not the first iBook to feature custom embedded fonts. The iBooks ePub format is quite advanced, and allows for all sorts of rich formatting. (My company publishes children's books, and our iBooks editions take advantage of several of these formatting enhancements.)

In both the Kindle and iBooks version, there's a typo on the very first page following the Table to Contents (in the "Characters" section). The reference to Sōtō zen is incorrectly spelled with an extra "o" — Soōtoō.

Oops! Or, should that be "Oōps!"? :D

A minor error, definitely. But still surprising, given that this book is coming from a major publishing house, and is expected to live up to Apple's high standards for quality.

Anyway, I'm curious as to whether this same typo found its way into hardback version of the book.

You are right.. a typo! Good thing the electronic version can be updated... :D
Well... I certainly hope so!

Totally agree. I know myself, as much as I have loved real books almost for my whole life, I would rather read it on my iPad.

It's like switching from the scroll to the book. These are memorable times in the history of written expression.

Talking about that I just found this:

Great suggestion. I was wondering myself if this was being offered.
Now how can we make it happen???

For any preorders having trouble downloading, quit iBooks out of your multitasking tray and open it again. Worked for me.

getting the audio cd off amazon...

audio book or e-book via iBooks??
should i read it or listen to it??

decisions decisions...

In memory of Steve Im sure people will have a Digital copy and Physical copy.... Reminding us the Digital impact he and his company had on our lives, but a physical copy to remind us, he has in a way, inspired us on a more "physical" sense in our lives.

I will have both copies as well!

Just downloaded from iBooks and reading it on my iPad2. Can't wait to read the story of the man who changed the world. I also have pre-ordered the hard copy/physical book from Amazon which essentially cost me zero, thanks to promotional codes I have collected from Amazon purchases.

The Audiobook version is abridged. Just doesn't seem right to abridge Jobs' life, in my opinion.

EDIT: Oops, looks like there is an unabridged version (at least on Amazon). They must have added it recently because I couldn't find one a few days ago.

If I had loads of money I'd buy a hard copy and audiobook. But for the moment, I'll be buying the hard copy later this week. I'd like to hold on to this book for a good while.
