No disrespect intended here, but I do think this needs to be said.

We all get that you have slow news days...we see them regularly. How about filling them with a varied range of content, like other Mac news/rumor sites do? Posting constant bits like this is getting annoying...dare I say it, more annoying than the constant legal updates.

If you want to ignore the public then fine, its your site...but at least take a look and see that a large number of people replying to a lot of the news being published is negative....in most cases its simply irrelevant 'filler' material, including this news post.

How about we get back to what we all know and love: Mac Rumors...not "Three ways to read Steve Jobs' Biography" - sorry but thats got to be the worst MR news post in a long time.

Page 2 needs to make a return. The article on the iPod founder was filed under 'iOS', as was the Steve Jobs Haircut, Apple ID Merging, etc. None of these are iOS stories, they are page 2 / low profile stories.

Sorry for the rant. I do love MR & greatly respect its staff, but silly news posts like this have annoyed me (and a lot of other people by the looks of it) one to many times.

I get that people don't want to be spoiled, and we've taken steps to avoid that.

But to call the content of this post "filler" and irrelevant to this site is absurd. The content of this post is more in line with MacRumors than anything out there. If it was sourced from a news article, rather than a book, there would have been no issue.

Textbooks on iPad would be great!

What a terrific idea for students of all ages to have access to their textbooks- with more detail, sound clips, movie clips, etc.- readily accessible wherever they go. It would be even better if the material was updated as revisions are released.

I would much rather have an iPad full of textbooks as a resource. It would be much more useful than the boxes of textbooks I have in the attic.

Correct! That's what the app that's made by the company I work for is supposed to do - great idea, horrible execution. It's taken them a year to even get 4 or 5 textbooks (edited for the university's specific classes), and there aren't any cool features like that, though there should be. Apple should do this. Oddly enough, Apple had an ad, or some kind of video they made on how it would or should work nearly 20 years ago.

Textbook Bundle?

Probably the best idea I have ever heard. Since getting into college, I probably have spent enough money on texts to buy... 3, 4, 5+ ipads lol

How about you change the site to stevejobsbioexcerpts.com? This isn't a MacRumor, it is ridiculous. You've lost your way for a while now with quantity over quality and this is just getting silly for many now.

Anything in the book about Steve's sex life? I bet he did some damage when he was younger!!

Perhaps we should consider not publishing "spoilers" from the Jobs biography on the front page of the site.

Some may actually enjoy reading the book and discovering the contents on our own.

Post it in another thread and mark is Jobs Biography Spoilers.

Please don't continue to ruin the reading experience by blasting it on the front page of the site!

Thanks for your consideration!

When I miss a UFC event and don't want to know what happened until I see it later that day I make sure to avoid places that might show it (e.g. ESPN, news sites, etc.). At least until I can play it off my Dish DVR.

If you don't want to see these spoilers then why did you come to MacRumors and read them? Can't be mad at anyone but yourself.

I think, eventually, Apple will slightly wander towards the Amazon model that values subscriptions more than selling hardware. I imagine you could make more money that way.

Knowing Apple, they'll try to do both - at the same time. At this level of hype, they'd get away with it too. But yeah, economy as such is clearly shifting towards services.

Don't get me wrong, the idea as such is great (for Apple). I just doubt the motive, and i would be damned before i support something like it. :- )

Even though the heading is titled appropriately, it shouldnt be front page news. If anything this story should be contained in its own section less MacRumours simply posts the entire book in excerpt form. We want rumors, not slices of a book anyone can learn just by reading it (and have indeed purchased for this sole purpose)

Anyway could you imagine reading on a 7 inch screen? Apart from novels, no thanks. Good points for the iPad's 9.7 screen decision.

Erm, most of the time the title contains the main subject plucked from the book. "Steve Jobs Regretted Early Decision to Delay Cancer Surgery", "From Steve Jobs' Biography: "I'm going to destroy Android"", "Steve Jobs on an Apple Television Set: 'I Finally Cracked It'", "Steve Jobs Biography to Include Resignation Details".

Spoiler: Apple designed the iPad.

y'll butthurt over a site called macrumors spoiling a story (not really even)

I appreciate the tidbits MR is publishing here. My copy from Amazon hasn't arrived yet, but that's okay. Sort of like having an appetizer before the main course.

If any of you haven't noticed, Issacon's been all over the networks and radio stations talking about the content. Gotta live in a cave to avoid it. Will all this info dampen my enjoyment of Issacon's book? Of course not.

NPR interviewed him today and Issacon gave some interesting details about the book's cover, photo, color, and paper type. The interview's available at NPR.

Right, and this one doesn't.

Then perhaps keep it that way for the remaining 10% of the book you've not yet quoted. AppleInsider isn't running a story on every detail, do you really need to?

If the quoted material represents 90% of the book then it wasn't worth reading. Be thankful they saved you the time and money.

I love the idea of focusing of textbooks. Students are the backbone of Apple products be it iPod, iPhone, or Macbooks. You can make the arguement that the plastic colorful iMacs were responsible for bring the company back and that was targeted at college kids.

As for the iPad, perfect for textbooks.

text is text is text? and yes, i can imagine reading on a 7" screen. in fact, i plan on doing so on a daily basis if i can find a way to make the Kindle Fire at least almost functional outside of the US and A.

Why wouldn't e-readers be better? Cheaper, more sturdy, lower power-consumption. And the list goes on.

That said, marketing wise its smart. If you could "crack it", that is.

Hey arn, how's the back? You've been bending over backward quite a bit today, hope you're ok.

While this would be perfect for Apple (because they're all about single-source providers... namely themselves) ....

What the H are you talking about? There is no single source providers for books. I get books from OReilly, Barnes and Nobel, Apple, Project Gutenberg, Amazon, public libraries (via overdrive), PDFs. Ck-12 has textbooks, free, and allows one to use for education and also allows anyone to create their own textbook using existing textbooks as templates.

Then there are educational lectures from MIT, Stanford, and other universities.

There is nothing limiting educational materials from being delivered on the iPad, period.

Am I the only one here who doesn't mind a little spoiler now and then, and feels those snippets could actually help boost sales by stoking interest in the book? This is exactly the sort of "behind the scenes" stuff I like to read about, the ideas and rationalisations that shape the product into what it is today.

Keep them coming, is all I have to say. :)

Would have been interesting to see all those other form factors... maybe one will be released someday as an different version of iPad....

I quite like his idea of "revolutionizing" textbooks. Would have been great for students. Not sure how much the book publishers would have liked that though... they make a killing off textbooks...

The iPad is, however, a great device for reading and learning. In fact, I think it's biggest limitation is software in that respect. No file system means no way to properly organize a large collection of books and media! Ironic fail on Apple's part. Still, the iPads sell like hotcakes, and I still like mine quite a bit. It just bugs me because I know it can be better! :p
