Steve Jobs is the Man. Long live Steve!

(everyone I know LOVES their iPhone 4, still totally sold out in Dallas)

That's important if you're an investor. or employee. As a consumer - who cares how much money a company makes. It's not about their profit, it's about their products.

I can agree with that. But rmwebs said that Steve should resign. Steve works for the share holders, and they do care about the profits.

Stating that Steve should resign because he steered the company into new markets which make Apple 2-3 times as much as before is just ridiculous IMHO.

wow do iSheep ever think their messiah could be full of it? or do they just take his word as if it were etched in stone on the iPad of God? lifelong Mac user here but not an iSheep. :apple:

Jobs: "You don't need to see the internet or make calls. These aren't the Droids you've been looking for."
iSheep: "Move along."

I love the Star Wars reference!!

And I too am not an iSheep. I have a MacBook Pro and love it...am also holding out for the next iMac but I will not get suckered into purchasing a flawed iPhone just because it is an iPhone.

Speaking of Droids...that might be my next phone. I am waiting to see what happens in a few hours. Will it be honest truth about the problem or more Jedi Mind Tricks for the masses?

Girl,

Did you hear about the new DROID X. It detects if your'e fone is hacked. If so, it cuts that **** off (BRICKS IT). U need to call ms. verizon to get it turned back on. Now that's fierce.

You know...i have been a silent observer on this site for years. I never have ever signed up for a user name because i enjoyed reading different people's perspective, and felt it was best for me to just not get involved...but this has changed recently.

The apple community has changed with the increased popularity. Where as it was once a small group of evangelists fighting for apple to succeed, it is now half of the old order, and half of some sort of new "apple better not have any flaws in anything they produce, and everything they make had better use the best hardware on the planet, or else they suck and i am ditching them for microsoft/google." The fun seems to be leaving the building. I remember a lot of quirky apple products from the early days, including the macintosh. Can you imagine that apple had a computer that you couldn't expand the memory on?? can you imagine?? what would happen if they released that today...i swear people would threaten to sue apple for false advertizing because apple told them it was a good product, but it didn't meet exactly everything they want.

The antenna issue on the iphone 4 is a perfect example. I hear everything from apple should give away free bumpers to "steve jobs is a horrible ******* who stole my money, and handed me a tin can with a string on it in exchange"....come on now, people. Please.

Due to my line of work, i have encountered several iphone 4's in several midwestern states, and in several apple stores. Can you, if so inclined, reduce the signal to the phone by bridging the gap between the two antennas? Yes. Does it result in a horrible catastrophic failure of every feature of the device every time you pick it up? No.

The responses of "i'm just going to complain about dropped calls until i'm blue in the face, or apple resolves the issue, and i'm going to continue holding the phone in my left hand, without a case because that's how i've always used a phone" is akin to saying "i'm going to continue to fall on my face every time I take a step in my new air jordans because i've always worn sandals, and never had to tie my own shoes before, so i will continue this behavior until nike issues a fix so i don't keep falling on my face."

If you are very concerned about dropped calls, focus on how to best avoid them while you are waiting a permanent solution, or stop complaining.

I am not sure if no one realizes how moronic they sound when they complained about how the iphone looks, and now refuse to put a case on it because they don't think they "should have to". I also want to point out that i have noticed who you are, and will not call you out, because i am not rude, but i think that trolling is ridiculous and childish. Looking to bring down apple should never be the goal of an apple fan, and as far as I know, this site is basically an apple fan site...so yeah...get over that part.

One last thing. If i could put a moratorium on the terms "fan boy" and "kool aid". If you think people are not being realistic, say that. THIS IS A SITE FULL OF APPLE FANS, AND PEOPLE THAT (used to) WANT APPLE TO SUCCEED. We like the apple experience, and a lot of us believe in what apple stands for. If you don't like steve jobs, his products, or his business philosophies, WHY ARE YOU HERE??!?

anyway...

[/rant]

much love to the mods, and thank you guys for seeming to stick to the facts in your news posts.

If you love Apple as much as you say you do and want them to succeed - then how about advocating for truth and honesty from Steve Jobs. Apple is suffering from the same issue as Toyota - growing too fast to control quality combined with arrogance that they can do no wrong.

When the 27" iMac had all the problems this past winter - Apple refused to even acknowledge a problem and to this day continue to have issues with that model - if at a lower percentage of production. Many people argued (rightly so in my opinion) that a $3,000 computer shouldn't have a yellow flickering screen. My 52" HD flat screen LCD tv doesn't have that issue and costs less than an iMac. You can get lots of monitors out there for hundreds of dollars that don't have the quality issues that Apple is having with their 27" iMac...yet they still would never really acknowledge the issue.

Now you have the next generation iPhone4 that Apple knew had a reception issue and they have tried to pass it off as a holding issue or a bar representation issue..not an Apple issue. Come on. That type of BS isn't acceptable from any company - much less one that prides itself in being the best.

I would love to see Apple succeed - but I also want to see Steve Jobs be honest about the issue and not have the arrogance to tell someone to hold their phone differently. At some point - they need to own up to the problem. I hope that comes in a couple of hours. But until they do - I will not be a sheeple/fanboy drinking the coolaid kind of person and run out and buy a device just because it has the apple logo on the back of it.

This phone is far from perfect and is missing some key features that many other devices offer...no retina display will make up for the fact that the death grip and proximity sensor make it impossible for you to make a phone call.

So while you are calling for a "moratorium" on certain words (I call that censorship) and telling others they are moronic for not wanting to use a case - I simply want Apple to be honest about the issue. Sell me a device that works without a $30.00 rubber band wrapped around the edge!

I heard about that...interesting. I have never hacked or jail breaked a phone from any manufacturer and don't intend to. So that isn't an issue for me. At least you can hold the DroidX anyway you like and still make a call as well as set up a mobile hotspot...two things you can't do on an iPhone4.

And Steve Jobs is not a liar or crazy. He's a marketeer and a showman and will defend his Apple at all cost and will portrait his company as perfect and untouchable.

There is a fine fine FINE line.

Steve wrote to me (yes - I'm the one of the people he wrote to at the beginning) and told me it was a non issue. If it's a non issue - why the open letter? Why the press conference? Why the bad press?

During this whole scenario - Steve, while I don't disagree is a great marketeer, has been Apple's WORST enemy. He might be a genius. He might think he knows what customers want or need.

But - in regards to this ISSUE - he doesn't know how to communicate effectively or appropriately to his customers.

I don't understand how he can say "the facts are different."

The only fact that I personally care about is the fact that IF I touch my hand to the bottom antenna - my signal drops DRAMATICALLY. That is not something I am imagining -- it is FACT.

I realize not everyone suffers from this problem. But the FACT IS -- I DO.

If it's a non issue - why the open letter? Why the press conference? Why the bad press?

Because the press can latch onto anything that makes someone look bad and hammer on despite facts. The press do not have the same goals as Apple does - they want to sell a story. Apple is trying to sell a phone. If the press can sell a story that reveals a failure out of a successful company and get viewers in the process they will do it. The fact is, the media is not always limited by the facts. They sell controversy.

I don't understand how he can say "the facts are different."

And that "fact" may not be an actual fact. The world is much larger than your own personal perception of it. This is the world that companies play in.

He can very well say that if people are making false assumptions about things.

Already did when they lied that response as not his.

Please state proof that Apple is lying. Email headers from the recipient are not iron clad proof. Show me proof from Apple that they are lying - if you cannot provide factual proof that cannot be manipulated back down.

Show me proof that they're not lying.... See anyone can play this game but it doesn't do anything to push the conversation forward.

Just saying, not taking sides..

But it is not a "false assumption" for people to say, "when my hand, my finger, my face, etc. come into contact with this antenna, the signal drops." That is neither false, nor an assumption. It happens, I can replicate it. So can many other people.

Do I know the reason for it? No. I have no idea the reason for it. I don't need to know the reason for it. I just know that it happens.

I didn't make the assertion that Apple was lying. I am saying "cite please". I make no claims either way. When someone makes a factual statement without proof to back them up, I call them on it.

That's not what I am saying. Jobs is not talking about individuals in his emails here. People are personalizing things to a level that is not accurate. He is using very general phrasing here to refer to the "why" not the "how". Job's and company isn't so concerned about the "how" side of things. The press and you tube has done that. They why is the more important thing going on here. Those are the facts that Jobs is talking about.

Girl,

I just talked to my boyfriend last night without a bumper holding it that way for an hour and half, and so did he. We didn't have no issues at all. I think that ms. verizon and ms.google have done paid off ms. consumer reports to give a bad rating. Convient timing for the droid x release, uh humm. I would like to find someone with a legitimate problem. Blackberry's, nokia's, etc all do the same, so they should have bad rattings too.

Then maybe Apple should pay "ms consumer reports" to give google the same press, ummmm hmmmm

I've used all my body parts, and haven't had an issue!

Hmmm...consumer reports are some old pale colored ladies if you know what i mean uh huh :)

Apple has better use for it's money.

I won't take any chances with it. I seen Whoopi Goldberg complain about it on the view. I made the switch to apple from windows years ago because I was fired from a great job at Citigroup in NY because me & a team of IT guys could not get windows to open up our bosses presentation at a huge meeting. I need my phone to work all the time. I cannot afford to lose my job.
