I get it. We have to upgrade.
I am an original iPhone user and I am not bitter about this.
I understand it's just business.
The first gen iPhone is starting to show it's age; I doubt it's hardware could support the upgrade.
Positive in my opinion, by dropping support for outdated pieces of technology is what allows for greater progess
the CPU (or SOC in this case) is not the only component in the device.
The hardware is clearly not the same, or the touch would be able to make calls, etc...
Yes. But this makes no difference for the OS!Better hardware in a consumer viewpoint; 3g Connectivity is better than the 2g option.
take an original top spec (8GB) iPhone and run it next to an iPhone 3G, open the same application, do the same things, and you'll see the iPhone 3G is marginally faster doing processor specific things.
No one knows. Apple hasn't announced pricing.Besides MULTI-Tasking what else can't the iPhone 3G do? Is there a reason to upgrade to OS 4.0 for 3G owners ?
How much will OS 4.0 cost??
Every iPhone out there is a walking demo for the platform. If a potential iPhone convert sees 4.0 running on a 1st gen, and it's a sluggish crappy experience, that gives them a negative impression - even if they know new ones are faster.
