I like Siri

I just recently got an iPhone 4S and I have already used Siri a few times and love the feature. The name might not be perfect, but perhaps the name will change with the next iPhone and when Siri comes out of Beta.

And speaking of a name change... what would you name it instead of "Siri?"

i personally like the name and use the service daily. Plus, I used Vocal on my Mac to dictate text to it as well.

I think the service has a good start and I can't wait to see how it develops.

To think people won't use it more in the future blows me away.

Look at human history - some could say we are lazy or we're just into developing products to help life get 'easier' in some ways.

To be able to talk to my TV or fridge or stove or houselights (as LG is pioneering to do) is neat and time saving. May sound silly but imagine walking in the door and saying, "Hey Stove, pre-heat to 425C" then take your coat off, put your shoes away, keys away, go the bathroom, come back and your stove is well on its way to being ready for you to prep your food for the oven. Better yet, imagine speaking to your phone with bluetooth while driving home which would in turn, speak to your oven to pre-heat, which can take a longer time depending on your stove. You come in, it's ready to go.

I still remember the scene from Minority Report (I think?) when someone was in the shower and they were speaking to the stereo unit to play some different music.

Cheers,
Keebler

So Siri means in Norwegian, "beautiful woman who leads you to victory".

That's kinda Inspirational. I guess I like it a little more now.

Never mind the name but I have Siri on my iPhone 4 via the jailbreak and I use it all the time.
I wish it had come with the new iPad but I will add it as soon there is a jailbreak available for it.

There was this video I saw once from the 80's where Apple had that virtual assistant that really did everything including making calls for you telling you who called, do research on the web and so on and it was flawless.

That is what I want the iPad to become for me.
Now why is this taking so long, it's not like I'm getting any younger. :D

And I thought I was a bad cook. I don't incinerate my food, though! :p

Wonder if Siri will run even worse when it's added to the new iPhone (5th Gen)

Steve would never let this inconsistent performance continue.

God rest his soul.

It's funny how many comments I read where someone says "Steve would never..."

I know he was the public face of Apple, but also a private person, it jus amazes me how many people think they know Steve.

iOS: the dumbing down of apple continues

Are you crazy?! It's a phone you can talk to! You can talk to your phone and it does things for you. You have a device that gets the internet anywhere.

I sound like Louis C.K.

Seriously, you're obviously clueless.

This will NEVER work correctly in my lifetime. The things it does will always be easier and quicker and much more accurately to do by other means. Siri is just a toy. Voice dictation does save time but every Android phone also has that.

Tony

will it ever leave beta stage or add new features? i mean seriously, it took the jailbreak community not even a day to come up with great new commands

It will. Apple is taking it's time, collecting data. When Apple does update it, it will greatly expand Siri's capabilities and take care of most of the issues users are currently seeing with it.

With human knowledge approximately doubling every 5 years or so, I am definitely not prepared to make predictions about what will or will not occur in my lifetime, but that may be because I'm operating under the common delusion that I have all the time in the world :)

...which can only mean, you're not planning on living much longer...

is everything ok?

It's the same culture response as "Walt Disney would never allow this".

Over time, there WILL be things that Steve would have never done. This is unavoidable. Tim Cook is not Steve, he's Tim Cook. He shouldn't base his decisions on someone who isn't there to give input. He has to do what he feels is best for Apple.

People forget, Steve wasn't always right ;).

Steve couldn't think of a name...?

I still think Apple should have called the service "Assistant" and allow users to name their assistant whatever they wanted...

When Siri gets polished in a year, or two, or even more, Apple will be the first one one to have the technology. Talking to a device? C'mon... There is a future here.

I've been talking to my Android devices for a while, and other devices had it years before.

My android voice tech is not *nearly* as advanced or well rounded, but it's a fallacy to say Apple was the first.

To me the name is irrelevant. I never call it by name when I'm using it.

Was siri updated with iOS 5.1 on either the iPhone side or the server side?
