Sounds to me like Apple has given up on resolution independence.
Personally, I would look forward to having a 7" tablet (at half the weight of an iPad) to keep by my bed for midnight web surfing. 10" is too big, and 3.5" is too small for this purpose.
All sizes have their places for different people.
Thank God we're not getting a 7'!
The iPhone is smaller than 7" and there's not much it can't do.
If clicking things is difficult on 7", it must really hard on on a 3.5 inch.

My colleague's iPad is very nice, but all things considered is too big for my liking.
It all depends what you want a tablet for. Personally I want one that's portable, and by this I mean will fit in a coat pocket rather than having to carry a bag to keep it with you, is functional as an e-reader, internet browser and capable of playing music and games such as Scrabble.
A 7" tablet fits the bill in this regard. My iPhone and HTC Desire are ok for web browsing, Facebooking and so on while on the move, fit in my pocket and the iPhone is excellent at playing music (insert rant on no gapless mp3 playback on Android here), but they're too small to read text on for any length of time.
Something the size of a paperback is ideal because guess what? Paperbacks have been around for decades and are designed to be read by people on the move! The text is printed at a size that is easily read and it fits in your coat pocket! Amazing!
There is definitely a market for 7" tablets, regardless of what Steve wants you to believe.
He's talking about tablets and tablet usage. This is why we would switch over to a tablet from our phones for browsing in our living rooms, if we wanted to. He's talking about the motivation for an immediate want for the tablet form factor. A 7 is close enough to a 3.5 in his opinion to not motivate that kind of switch. The irony in his statement is that he's also dissing the iPhone now, but of course he knows the Apple fanatic retards won't notice that. "Too small for apps, eh?" Well, doesn't Apple make a smaller iPad...oh yea, it's called iPhone and iPod. Way to go.
There are clear limits to how close elements can be on the screen before users can't touch accurately. We believe 10-inch screen is minimum necessary.
Its clear that not many company could compete with Apple on a $499 price point without going small screen. I think apple used up all the 10inch screens with a good price point. Other companies have to pay a premium to get bigger screens. I think it shows, Apple's forward thinking, they don't release any product without accumulating enough components. Other companies are just scrambling to match Apple's offering.
, 7' is too small, but 1' (iPod nano) is just fine?![]()
An awful lot of whiners are going to get their panties in a bunch over this. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I would actually like it just enough larger for the display keyboard to be full size. As it is ever so slightly squeezed, I can't keep my fingers over the keys to touch type. But thumb typing works ok for me, and I really don't use the keyboard much.Steve said "10-inches minimum"; does this mean there could be a larger iPad???
He didn't say "10-inches only", so I'm sure we could let our imagination rumor about a larger iPad... heheh!![]()
What will the 7" tablets run? Blown-up phone apps that look ugly? Crunched down tablet apps that don't run touch very well because of the squeezing?
