She is right. The modest upgrades in the 11, 12, 13 and 14 have not enticed me to upgrade my Xs Max. I keep waiting each year for something that will make me want to upgrade but each year brings another disappointing modest upgrade, at this rate I probably will not be upgrading until the day I can no longer get iOS updates. As for camera upgrades if I want to take quality picture I use my Canon DSLR, I view the iPhone camera is for quick low quality photos.

this is the feeling...iphone 14 should start $699 since its an 90% iphone 13 and discontinue the 13
Its first time that Apple dont upgrade SoC with a brand new one
Whats next? Apple will change only the colours and ask the same starting price as the last gen ?!
Careful how you vote the future with your wallets
They should've just called it 13s, and a lot of these memes wouldn't happen.

Agreed.
We don’t need the fancy new camera hole but… an old CPU? For that kind of money?
Pretty pathetic.
Just curious. If Apple had punted, kept the iPhone 13 models, would you expect them to lower the price. In today’s economic climate, most businesses are raising the price on goods, services, and products left and right. It seems to me that Apple is at least making improvements for those who are at the point of wanting/needing to upgrade.

The new CPU is marginally better according to benchmarks so far. In real world use for the majority of people, it'll probably be indistinguishable performance. So this is really a matter of just wanting to see a bigger number.

Satellite connectivity anyone? Crash detection? Brighter display? Always on display? Bluetooth LE? Those are just a few things that this article fails to include in addition to the amazing camera upgrades and the dynamic island ingenuity.
For the pros that’s true. Not for 14 and +. They are iPhone 13’s relabeled.

The upgrade was already marginal and we don’t even get that? Is it good news?

Ok but this is barely a 13S then. Almost nothing to do with the rest of the new lineup.

Never said it was good news, and hey you aren't being forced to buy anything.

They could have tossed the new CPU in there to satisfy those who just care about seeing a bigger number, but they know there are people like that and wanted another reason to upsell them on the Pro.

Following Apple's "Far out" event that included the launch of the updated iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, Steve Jobs' daughter Eve Jobs took to her Instagram to share a meme mocking the new iPhones as basically unchanged compared to last year's iPhone 13.

eve-jobs-iphone-14-pro-meme.jpg

The meme is a popular one showing a man holding up a gifted shirt identical to one he's already wearing. Jobs captioned the meme with "Me upgrading from ‌iPhone 13‌ to ‌iPhone 14‌ after Apple's announcement today," sharing it with her nearly half a million followers yesterday before deleting it.

The meme is sparked by customers' belief that the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature FEW changes compared to the iPhone 13 and do not represent a worthwhile upgrade. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus feature the same chip found in the iPhone 13 Pro, which comes with an additional GPU-core compared to the standard iPhone 13 models.

Other than a slight boost in performance, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus benefit from new camera features, including autofocus on the front-facing camera and improved low-light performance. On the iPhone 14 Plus, thanks to the larger size, customers will get the best battery life ever in any iPhone.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available for pre-order on Friday, September 9, and the iPhone 14 will be available next week, Friday, September 16. The larger iPhone 14 Plus will begin arriving to customers on Friday, October 7.

This is true except for the punch hole camera which is older than HER!

Am I supposed not to criticize a mediocre expensive product because I’m not forced to buy it?

What I meant is that we all expect a proper upgrade from a new iPhone and it’s not good that the 14 didn’t get one. Or did it?

She is 24, not 14. Shouldn't need mom to tell her such an obvious thing.
Didn’t you hear, 24 is the new 14. Maturity seems to be lacking with some twenty-something’s, especially among the privileged. Mom/dad are still very necessary as a “guiding” force under those circumstances.

Maybe she came to her senses and realised the post was completely pointless considering its very far from the first time many smartphones have had a small update and looked the same from the outside, that includes phones from other manufacturers, not just Apple. Other than that, Are we expected to believe she could only afford a standard iPhone 14 and not a Pro where there is outside and software changes?

Wow. Did everyone just completely lose their minds? EVERY YEAR for the past 14 years the top end models have had significant improvements in CPU and eventually in GPU performance. This is frankly standard practice in any electronics setting.

This is the first time where a major product is released with an almost total flatline on core hardware architecture performance.

It’s literally a change that could have been made as an iPhone 13 “refresh”.

I’ve seen more significant changes get slipped into hardware refreshes of products maintaining the same price point and even model numbers as their older counterparts just to keep pace with technology and supply chain availability. Usually those changes were met positives.

This is the first time there is an absolute dead stop in not only performance but literally using the same damn chip and technology in the SOC as that of almost 2 years ago now???

Even if Apple was well ahead of the curve with their processor performance they can’t just sit on their rear ends and do this one year to the next.

I frankly believe we are seeing a genuine plateau forming in both supply chain and innovation.

The Dynamic Island is where your cash is shuffled as the next shell game is laid out on the street corner. LOL
If all iPhone models had the upgrades of the 14 pro, it would be a pretty decent step forward. It's a bit odd to have this level of disparity between standard and pro models. Time will tell how this pans out for Apple.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and well geez lots of people who fathered, fostered and innovated the tech space which now has degrees for all sorts of b.s. had no degrees at all. So please stop with the higher Ed/academia elitist dog whistles. Frankly I’ve met plenty of very well credentialed morons in my 25 year career in tech. LOL
I worked for Steve at NeXT and later Apple. Those morons you cite weren’t hired. Steve and Bill surrounded themselves by Ph.Ds for good reasons—neither knew much about Physics intricately but we’re also excellent students who chose to leave Reid and Harvard, respectively to become entrepreneurs. Both would have excelled in applied sciences if they chose to stay.

Eve isn’t her father and none of the kids immersed themselves in what Dad obsessed over.

She has no background in Mechanical Engineering (one of my fields) and it showed with her juvenile comment she posted that would never seen the light of day if Dad were still around.

Some chip upgrades in the past were mostly marketing hype and not big leaps forward either and people lined up around the block for them... there are some minor bumps but most iPhone users don't upgrade annually anyway so for people ready to, it's still an upgrade and having at long bloody last, a larger screen option on the cheaper line is there for people.

Only press thinks everybody update every year. They think news all year. Most people almost never.

I kind of agree with her. But then that's always been the case! You don't see much difference upgrading every year. Wait at least 2-3 years between upgrades for it to be worth it.
Mature or lazy or carrot dangling strategy?

I just switched back to IOS after 10years hiatus so don’t call me a troll.

I’m always fearful to post on this forum due to the religious cultism.
