Some of those are on the Pro model only.

As for the "non-Pro" 14 models, the fact that it's still packing the A15 shows just how good that processor is! Seriously, why replace something after just one year when it still has tons of mileage in it? That's "first world" wastefulness.

The 14 is an upgrade, packed with more value... at the same price!

No. First world wastefulness is charging the same price for aging technology year over year and not reinvesting that additional profit back into R&D operations.

Seriously it sounds like you guys (everyone proclaiming it’s so upgraded) are literally trying to sell the iPhone 14 yourselves rather than being consumers who actually will be spending their own money to buy one.

The only increased value per dollar here is for Apple. Not the consumer of their products.

If they want to continue to offer the same hardware technology then they should lower the price. Quite simply. That would actually be innovative.

Satellite connectivity anyone? Crash detection? Brighter display? Always on display? Bluetooth LE? Those are just a few things that this article fails to include in addition to the amazing camera upgrades and the dynamic island ingenuity.
I agree. When the Sat coverage matures that will be a compelling feature for me.

Sad but true. Innovation at Apple died long ago. They only think about how to get more money from us. Not how to make life better.
Siri: dead
Faster and longer range for Face ID: dead
Dial pad that allows to edit a mistyped number: dead
Full screen: dead
Foldable: faaaaaar behind
Better keyboard: dead
Wow factor: dead
Safari bookmark management: dead
Add to this list:

Finger print reader. Dead

Force Touch. Dead
(this one was really very handy and it was only gutted because someone found they could “mimic” the same behavior with long presses while saving $$$ on screen design / manufacturing. None of those savings were passed on to the customer)

LIDAR sensor…. Talk about an underrated and under used technology.

On the Mac line. The list is long and drawn out and sad.

Frankly the best MacBook Pro they’ve made in ages was the 2019 16” with the touch bar.

Then they killed the Touch Bar. LOL

Apart from its not, it’s a symptom of Apple trying to maximise returns on minimal effort. They’ve used the same phone cases for the past 3 models, that means no design costs for them so even more profit per handset.

The only reason we have the “Dynamic Island” is because they needed a way to differentiate the previous model. We went from 12 to 13 and got a smaller notch to show the difference, now we go from notch to “dynamic island”. The tech is there and mature enough to use under screen technology instead but they’re holding that back for a future iPhone when they absolutely have to iterate more. If I were to hazard a guess the 15 will see a design refresh, and then the 16 will see the same phone without any kind of intrusive element at the top of the screen.

It says a lot that the biggest talking point for a lot of people is either a cut out to the screen, or a new phone colour.
On the whole I agree with your post. One thing I would clarify is to say that the tech to make under the screen cameras work “as well as current” for the same price is not really here yet.

Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it (supposedly) but that’s where the real decisions come in.

The dynamic island is being heralded as revolutionary and it’s honestly a brilliant “gimmick” but that’s really all it is. A gimmick.

I find it funny when people say the tech is there Apple should do it. Given that Apple doesn’t make its displays and works with Samsung (and Samsung also makes smartphones and I assume it would want to keep its best tech for itself for at least 1 or 2 years), I expect Apple to trail its competitors sometimes.

Samsung makes great OLED smartphone panels. I think some people forgot that.

When every computation improves > 10% while power consumption drops > 40% that's a massive improvement, but uneducated people who have no background in applied sciences can never seem to see the forest for the trees.

Eve's Science Technology degree is something only places like Stanford would even bother attempting to pawn off as a degree. It is a part of the Humanities department and it's highest degree is either a Bachelor of Arts or Science.
Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and well geez lots of people who fathered, fostered and innovated the tech space which now has degrees for all sorts of b.s. had no degrees at all. So please stop with the higher Ed/academia elitist dog whistles. Frankly I’ve met plenty of very well credentialed morons in my 25 year career in tech. LOL

Not to long ago our “sales VP” was with another person. She closed the deal, it was Miller time. The VP who just finished his masters insisted on showing his PowerPoint presentation he was so proud of. 🙄 Degrees don’t make the person any smarter. Life does.

Just curious what people need a new CPU/SOC for. What do you want to do with your phone that you won’t be able to do because the CPU/SOC doesn’t have a a higher number in the marketing name?
Seriously???? Please I have some reliable POTS phones to sell you. Don’t see why anyone “needs” a wireless phone anyway. LOL. J/K

Yes and hiring managers with even half a brain will always prioritize experience over credentials. Credentials only really get you past the most basic HR recruiting filters and even then when you’re experienced enough your resume carries its own weight.

There are some really nice upgrades to the pro model and they are giving consumers what they are asking for without raising the price for inflation in the standard models. Anyone seeking features are going after the Pro models anyway. Apple should be given props for this release. I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade my phone since I haven't been using it enough, but I have been upgrading a lot of my other Apple gear lately and will definitely be picking up the AR headset when it releases.

For the meme, nothing wrong with sticking with the same shirt you liked before. We all need to refresh our hardware once in a while as it wears out. People buy new cars without major technology advances. Why should that be different for phones.

Good for her. Obviously her mother pulled rank after a call from Cook or the CFO.

As for me, sticking with my 12 Pro for a third year (as I did with my beloved X) and just cough for a new battery at some point. 1600 notes for an incremental iPhone "upgrade" is just too bitter a pill to swallow this year.

here we are talking about the iphone 14 compared to the iphone 13 , what always on display ? did you read the article?
You're splitting hairs. Everyone seeing the meme will understand it in the way it was almost certainly intended: that the iPhone 14 *line* is an insignificant improvement over the iPhone 13 *line*.

And that's not more true this year than in previous years, including when Steve Jobs ran Apple.

She's not wrong. I'm sure if she had a few drinks she'd open up about how disgusted she is with Apple's capital-driven leadership. That was the difference between Steve and Tim - Steve was a visionary who didn't do it for the money. Tim is 100% about his net worth, nothing else. Steve might have been temperamental and hard to work with, but he was a better person, plain and simple.
I don't think anyone would disagree that Steve Jobs was a great visionary. The rest of your post is nonsense. He was also capital-driven, and celebrated when he hit $1B, and several iPhone upgrades during his time were not more significant than this one, and he was dead wrong on the size issue.

Her post made me laugh…oh well 😬 I’d wager “someone” suggested the deletion. She should have just “edited” the tweet 🤓

Could’ve said the same thing about X to XS to 11 to 12 to 13.
camera and video improvements from XS to 11 were profound. Much better HDR, low light and out of this world video stabilisation. 12 was actually a step backwards as images became far too yellow in comparison to realistic 11 and then 13.

he cared about money, a lot, and he cared about Apple being viewed as a luxurious company.
Jobs did not price low as he wanted people to perceive Apple as an aspirational brand. Jobs was also knew his own tastes in first rate materials. Cut-throat pricing meant compromising on component quality. I’m no fan at all of Tim Cook who spends all his time thinking about the bottom line, who has slowly turned Mac and iDevices into the least repairable products in the world. Still I will admit that Jobs was prescient about Cook’s ongoing concern about product quality and longevity. Cook has resorted to killing our Macs and iDevices with software but the physical quality has held up.

In terms of avarice, Jobs came from relatively straitened circumstances (adopted, adopted father car mechanic, mother housewife). Jobs long felt he’d lost his own mother due to financial reasons. So Jobs did want that first billion to ensure he or his children were never in a situation like that. Jobs was interested in the technology for technology, he was deeply obsessed with technology in itself, not as a means to wealth. Even when Jobs was the billionaire CEO of Pixel Studios and just returned to Apple as a prophet saviour, he continued to live in a modest house in Palo Alto, suitable for the family of a upper mid-level executive. He mostly circulated without bodyguards.

Jobs’ wife Laurel Powell Jobs on the other hand very much enjoys being a billionaire and all the trappings. LPJ started as an executive assistant/junior executive and is a normal middle class person suddenly fantastically wealthy. Not criticising her, just observing. Most of us would react similarly in her shoes.

Source for most of this information is Walter Isaacson excellent bio, Steve Jobs. Recommend reading in full (not for Apple junkies but for anyone interested in technology and leadership).

Thumbs up for “celebrity party pooper”.
Do not downplay those with different opinion as their opinion can change or alter our wrong one.
