I hope the next OS iteration allows a choice of moving the close, minimize, and maximize buttons to the side. I kind of like it in iTunes.

People will bitch about anything. It's a freaking icon. One. Single. Icon. Who cares!? In a month you won't even remember or care anymore.

Case in point, everyone who bitched about the iPhone antenna issue suddenly stopped. I guess they found something new to complain about. I mean seriously, if this is the worst you guys have to complain about, I'd say Apple is doing alright.

Yep, not a fan of the new look. I went and downloaded a custom icon that matched more with the Apple (or the old Apple, anyway) style.

So many people dislike it, in fact, that iconpaper.com has been flooded with replacements over the past 48 hours.

Check it out. I really like the one that looks like Quicktime X. No idea why iTunes X doesn't follow the same aesthetic.

As a graphic designer for over 20 years. I concur: that new logo sucks! It looks like someone created that in about 2 minutes. Let see, "Take generic 2 tone aqua color circle, add musical note . . . . and . . . . there you go! Instant logo. Can I interest you in 20 animated gifs for your web site now?"

I much rather prefer something like this:

P.S. This icon was designed by Chris Carlozzi. He is a link to it.

Well I'm glad you're not working for Apple designing their logo's thats absolutely hideous. Not that this new logo is amazing. But this logo you have is absolute trash.

What is iTunes anyway?

It'a an application not only to manage music & radio, but also film, TV, podcasts, apps, books...and syncing all of that plus photos with iOS devices.

If you're gonna change the icon, then change the name to reflect what the application really is.

I bet you a million bucks most of the people complaining are graphic designers of some description, whether as a hobbyist or pro. They always think they can do better.

If the Apple logo had been designed today, they'd probably complain about that too.

The design is uncluttered - one of the first rules in good design - don't over-complicate it.

It is sleek, dark, moody, does what it says on the tin and, dare I say it, doggone sexy.

Good job Apple. :)

It's all subjective folks. Yeah maybe it's not an award winning Icon but it's far from being a piece of crap.

Because iTunes is Apple's primary cross-platform app (and the most important app they produce in a big-picture sense), they should incorporate the Apple logo in the iTunes logo. What better way to get your brand literally in front of the eyes of a bajillion Windows users? Maybe a front-on view of an audio speaker with an Apple logo in the center? After all, iTunes is not just about music any more (but it almost always includes audio of some type).

Did you ever seen Wayne's World?? Remember the scene where Garth say's "we fear change!" How about the old adage, if it's not broken, don't fix it? People like familiarity, especially in an icon-centric computing environment, where visual recognition is so important.

IMO the conversation was on the wrong track.
It's fine to change the icon, I don't think there is any problem from a branding perspective, it's still two eighth notes in a circle.
The problem is it is amateurish and ugly looking.

What's really sad is people are up in arms about something so meaningless in the grand scheme of things, while the fact that this iTunes 10 version is really just the same old version with some new crap slapped on it is overlooked. Serious bugs in iTunes that have been longstanding for months/years were not fixed in this release, that's what I want an answer about!!

If Steve thinks the new icon looks good and if he thought the live entertainment after the even sounded good then I can see where the ugly unibody Mac mini came from. I'm glad Apple didn't budget the money to redesign (ruin) the Mac Pro. I really like the same-old look of my 2010 3.2 quad.

I've never seen anyone complain about the design of the unibody Mac mini.

What on earth are you talking about? It's the most unoffensive and apologetic design of the entire mac lineup.

Indeed, it looks like something a 4 year old little girl would like. Way too pink and flour power.

Needs more neutrality. The new Icon is fine. Fix Safari next. That compass looks like crap.

You rag on a guy for "could care less", which in colloquial English is as well understood as "couldn't..." and you then write "FLOUR" power. Seriously?
