Steve Jobs Defends New iTunes 10 Icon Against Criticism

I could care less about the icon i mean really people was there nothing left to rake apple over the coals about today except for this? Seems like people are running out of straws to grasp.

And the "Traffic Lights"? I think it's pretty cool to be honest. I'm digging the new iTunes 10.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but for all of you guys who don't like the new iTunes look, you can bring color back to iTunes 10 as well as the old icon with a little tweak called iTunes 109. I used it and it worked great.

Here's a link:

There's about 20 on iconpaper that are all superior.

Also, given that the program is called iTunes and it now contains movies, applications and books, why focus on the obsolescence of the CD?

Well, I am a senior graphic designer for about 30 years and all I have to say is....
Really? Seriously? People are actually upset by this?

It's like being upset that McDonalds changing the pickle icon on the burger box. It doesn't matter.

This might be slightly off-topic but you know what I think is ugly about the new iTunes? The new Capacity Bar! It looks like it was created in Photoshop in about 5 minutes!

I don't mind the new iTunes icon though...I think it needed a refresh.

Oh please don't tell me that top one is the new one. It's ugly, plain, it looks like some one didn't put any thought at all into how to design it, and the old one with the tick marks was easier to get a grasp at a glance of how full your device was.

Steve Jobs LOVES, absolutely LOVES MINIMALISM!! Is it any wonder the new icon is blah and the color scheme of itunes 10 is also BLAH?? He hates buttons, he hates color, he hates Flash, he hates answering questions like a CEO who cares about their customers, he is IN CHARGE and that's why I avoid Apple products except for the ipods I've bought and I am somewhat dismayed that I even bought them because of his iron-fisted ways.

I tried using StumbleUpon on my Touch the last few days and can't get the program to react like it does on my PC because JOBS has crippled the function of Stumble because of his misguided puritanical, oppressive/restrictive rules for apps on HIS products. None of you out there actually OWN your Apple products--JOBS owns them ALL. You just get to use them for the things HE deems allowable.

oh, and I'm not graphics designer, but I know what I like and don't like the new icon--but I won't lose sleep over it. but if itunes 10 is worse of an experience then using 9.x, I'm gonna be PISSED.

The icon is a tool, meant to take you from point a to point b. If people are sitting there looking at their dock all day and admiring the pretty pretty icons, then they have more wrong then just the icon.

People can get used to anything.

I don't really mind the new iTunes X logo. However, some of the ideas I've seen from those upset with it are awesome. Then again, I do see why people have an issue. The iTunes logo has been a trademark logo for iTunes, as people are dumb enough to not see that they represent the same application.

I'm also happy with the rotation of the window buttons, so now people will get the stop light analogy a lot easier. Hopefully something we'll see as an option in 10.7.

I do think the capacity meter looks worse, but mainly due to its increased size, and I miss the color icons in the source frame.

Thanks! I didn't know that the speak and spell was alive and well after all these years.

It's not a question of spelling/grammar, but of meaning. "I could care less" means you care. If you can care less, than means your care meter is not at 0, so you indeed have some form of care about the issue.

"I couldn't care less" on the other hand indicates your total lack of care about the issue at hand.

They are not a simple typo and do a complete 180 on your meaning. Not to mention most people use "I could care less" when meaning the opposite, which leads to confusion for most normal English speaking folk.

Just get it right next time, it'll help drive your point home instead of doing quite the opposite.

i likes the new icon - reminds me of the logo for the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy movie. don't panic people :)

actually, i find i like a lot of the new design of itunes - admittedly, yes it jars a bit against other apps and the rest of the OS, but i'm looking forward to when this new design style permeates through the rest of OS X

Apple probably should have used this opportunity to do more than just change the icon.

Since iTunes is more than just songs now, losing more than just the CD is needed. Adding a App and video to the musical note icon to show the three main items you can manage with iTunes.

Might also be a time for a new name.

Reasoning: Logical
Execution: Too generic.

Frankly, given the expanded content and the previous departure from iTMS to iTS, I would have thought that Apple would have expunged the music note as well as the disc.

Indeed. The new icon and insipid media menu is nothing compared to the bastardisation of the device capacity indicator!

Come on :apple: did you get the work experience guy to do the new GUI changes or something?

Personally, I like the new icon, even though my dad hasn't bothered to get iTunes 10 downloaded yet. I think it matches the Quicktime X very well, and is a bold step out from the CD-era.

Go Apple, lead the way! :D

I think that OS 10.7 will be called iTunes X. One app to rule them all.

as a color blind I must say this icon looks like a small blurry, blueish ball in my dock...
