According to ThinkSecret, Steve Jobs held a company-wide town hall today and announced that Apple employees will get free 8GB iPhones this July. This applies to all full-time Apple employees as well as part time employees who have been with Apple for more than 1 year

Meanwhile, ThinkSecret suggests that Apple has about 3 million iPhones manufactured and will be releasing about 1 million of them into the channel this week in an effort "to avoid perceived major shortages."

Release them all "fly little fishies be free!"

What about non-US employees? Will they get it when it comes to their respective countries?

Is the 17,787 figure US only?

Just like the Ford Series T cars.

And what a big chunk of new AT&T Customer$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, in other parts of the world...

Thats really great for Apple employees... nice bonus!

"The first leg is the Mac business, which Steve addressed by saying that they have the "best Macs" in the new product pipeline ever right now"

Apple *ALWAYS* say this...!! They have to really, they can't say otherwise.. i.e., "we've got a few lame iMac updates coming up.. etc etc".

I was just going to say this. Steve's comment means aaaaabsolutely nothing. I think I've heard him say this at every keynote, and every time he's interviewed about Mac hardware. Don't think this actually means there is any fantastic hardware "in the pipeline".

A good tactic. Probably a lot of Apple employees will evangelize even more emphatically once they have one in their hands. I can see this benefiting the company in a lot of ways, and it doesn't cost an outrageous amount of money -- what, $10,000, if that? But it looks really good.

But they still have to pay those outrageous data rates! And for phone service! For two years! They could buy a macbook for that!

And what phone are you using where the voice and data are free :)

The iPhone plans cost less for voice AND data than I am now paying for voice alone on a landline! They are very competitive rates compared to other services.

Nothing "outrageous," but good trolling and great MacBook suggestion :)
