Because people with high paying jobs and positions of authority are permitted to act like little children and utter jerks. As it is in corporate America, so too it is in government. We are a society run by the privileged and the entitled, who frequently have the gall to pit the middle class against itself (and especially against the lower class) with claims of them having problems with entitlement attitudes.

Kim VoWrath is also an idiot

I hate to say it but Apple is now run by a bunch of Jobs wannabe morons that can't do anything right in terms of design and think that slavery is the way to innovation and profits. Long live the Magic Mouse.

The joys of software developing. Pretty reasonable to blow up sometimes. I've blown up a few times when some idiot thinks the things are ready and the code is still a mess (ex crashes, memory leaks..).
Even worse is when the deadline is really close and some just go partying and get drunk, so the next day goes to cure the hangover, the party is *after* the deadline ffs.

Anyway She should be having a blast with the latest software coming from :apple: I wouldn't like to be on that job.

You clearly don't hate to say it that much - you said it before even reading the article. It cites once instance of her losing her temper and retreating to her office. That's over a period of three decades. That one incident also happened when jobs was very much alive.

She slammed her office door so hard that the door knob broke, and she locked herself in. Mr. Forstall grabbed a baseball bat to try to break her out, people who worked at Apple at the time recall.

And people think Forstall still deserves a place at Apple?
I for one am glade he is gone. I will miss his pretty good keynotes but apart from that, a new, (less violent and always angry) broom sweeps better.

As others have noted, this is a pretty old anecdote. MacRumors covered it over two years ago when Scott Forstall was being profiled as a possible successor to Steve Jobs.

My job has nothing to do with it. Also quite to the contrary, if I'm in college, I am getting "educated." I'm liking the personal insults I'm receiving based off of my opinion on this. Also the year it happened has nothing to do with it as I didn't hear about it until now. Unless she was a 12 year old 7 years ago, and then went through puberty, I hardly doubt it makes a difference.

In my opinion, slamming the door and locking yourself in the room because you are angry seems like something a 16 year old would do when told by their parents they can't hang out with friends due to bad grades. It doesn't seem like the behavior of a vice president at Apple. People get angry; it happens. How you deal with it shows your maturity.

You are right. Stress does affect people differently, so it may not be my position to judge.
Stop embarrassing yourself!
She slammed the door, the knob broke and THEREFORE she was locked in.
What's so hard to understand??

Best post in the thread.

Hey, we shouldn't judge; excessive stress does different things to different people.

Maybe working there wouldn't be so stressful, if it weren't for such negative leadership & management tactics, as we've seen from her, and Jobs, and to a lesser extent Cook, and I'm sure many others too.

It's easy to throw a tantrum when things don't go right. It's not excellent management, my 3-year old nephew could do it and I doubt he's CEO material. Motivating your team about what they can achieve, rather than abusing/threatening them when it doesn't happen leads to a less stressful (and, IME, more productive) environment.

Sounds like those "idiots" need to be replaced with more competent, devoted, employees.

Nothing quite as good as a bit of 'Rampaaaaage!!!' to clear away the cobwebs.
Better out than in!!

I wonder how hard she slammed the door when iOS 7 was released... and Apple Maps... and Maverics...

I don't see how Mavericks is such a disaster? Sure it wasn't totally stable on release but why is? Even the legendary Snow Leapard wasn't band on the first version. If you aren't happy with the current Mavericks, then what's better? Windows 8? Ubuntu? Not flawless, but I think it's the best.

She has a baseball bat just laying around in her office?

Hey, good for Apple. A good manager has to put fire under the workers' asses when the rubber hits the road and they are still choosing the rims and discussing psi.

Ha, seems pretty childish to me. You're a grown up and you have to resort to temper tantrums when you don't get your way? Very professional. But, with a company like Apple, I'd imagine the office politics at that place is very unforgiving.

Temper tantrums do not motivate a workforce to do anything other than fear you. Fear does not drive good work, only the desire to do what is required so you aren't yelled at again until you find somewhere else.

Sad people still don't get this.

I think the point is if you're so angry your slamming doors hard enough for the knobs to come off (they generally don't do that), you have an anger issue.

Violent? Angry? Did you even read the story? Her doorknob was broken and using the bat was necessary to get her out of her office.
