Steve Jobs: MobileMe to 'Get A Lot Better' Next Year

And the phone number is?

When I've called into AppleCare they say there is _no_ telephone support.

So if you know differently, leave the number for us.

Cheers...

Sorry Just being a ass...

Depending on the work volume, day, key words and subject when you start at the express lane ticket for mobile me.You 'might' get a phone agent from the mobile me dept.
LoL

Its funny cause its true.

dropbox is usesless...

you cannot even compare the two services, one is a information sync program with email and one is for transferring files.

Dropbox is far from useless. You have obviously never given it a try! It is not merely transferring files. It syncs those files on the cloud so it's available online, and also on other computers you have linked to Dropbox. So files are always up to date on all your computers, and on the iPhone/iPod touch!

ALSO, and this is a big feature imo... Dropbox keeps a backup of your files for 30 days. so if you delete a file by accident, or want to retrieve an older edit of a document, it's available for download. Now you still think MobileMe is all that?!

I haven't read the whole thread so pardon me if this has already been said, but I think mobileme has suffered because Apple never had its own server farm. The new data center changes that and allows Apple to move this service to the next level without having to work through a third party. Everything in the future is moving into the cloud and this service should become a premium user experience for cloud based computing.

All the nay-sayers out there: I hope your wrong about the "heard it before" phenomenon. I do everything on apple and wish that mobileme was more useful, especially since I have been paying for it for the last three years.

Here is my wishlist

-A lot more storage with much faster UL/DL. Also I hate the 1 gig file size limit.
-Better rules support on the mail web-app
-Ability to keep and open apps directly from iDisk
-30 day backups

Sign that MobileMe is going to be free come January 10th, 2011?

Hi, Semi-short reader, first time commenter...

Has anyone else who currently is a MobileMe subscriber checked their account page?

I had been a dot mac subscriber for a year or two, before dumping it, as it was a waste of a good deal of money, for little in return. This time last year though, I reluctantly subscribed again, after I got my 27" iMac and gave my nieces my trusty ol' G4 PPC eMac... solely for the iChat capabilities, as they live a couple hours away, that way we could video chat whenever they/we wanted.

This was before I recently paid attention to Skype. So, am wanting to again dump MobileMe for the exact same reasons I did years ago. I got an email from MobileMe, early November reminding me that my subscription would be auto renewed, and at the time checked to see when that was - sometime the middle of this month.

A week ago, still debating whether to dump them or not, and forgetting when the auto-renewal date was, I hopped on my account page, and saw it stating that I was getting 22 days free, and was good up until the 10th of January.

What?! That wasn't there when I checked in early November. No other note, or notification ever sent me of this, like - "for being such a great customer, we've thrown in an extra period until you have to renew! Thanks for being a MobileMe subscriber!" Or something silly like that... then I looked at it more - why the oddball, arbitrary 22 days?! Why not like a month?

Then I thought it had something to do with the January 10th, 2011 date... could it possibly be that Apple is going to drop the charge of MobileMe on that date, and uncharacteristically, is not going to charge their current subscribers, who are up for renewal this month, and have them pay, only to make the service free in the first half of January? To save the hassle of having to refund, and blah, blah, blah?

So, am curious, if any other current subscribers have this on their account page, who were set to renew this month, and have a similar message, except set to their renewal date - like getting 12 days, or 17 days, free until the January 10th, 2011 date?

Thank you for your attention, you may now get back to reading and/or replying.

There truly is some of the most stupid stuff posted here as news. DUH MacRumours, you really think Jobs is going to reply, "nah we can't do anything about MobileMe's crappy performance" or "nah sorry kid you'll just have to put up with the crap we dish out to you and charge you a premium for, do you feel like a sucker? you should haha!!"

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I would love to see the current MobileMe, but a new pricing range:

Paid:
Price: Whatever it is now
More iDisk room

Free:
Only Mail, Gallery, and iWeb hosting
iAd Supported

I think that is a fair trade. :)

1Password works great with dropbox for Macs and iPhones/iPods. iCal works great with Google Calendar. Apple Address Book has built in syncing with Google Contacts and works across multiple machines. Apple Mail with iMap syncs nicely with Gmail. Safari bookmarks sync nicely with an add-on whose name I forget.

Thanks for the tips Robocopper. I actually have tried syncing Mac Address book with Google Contacts. I had to turn it off and clean up my Address Book because of a known issue where it can duplicate contacts on each sync cycle. My Address Book ballooned to over 10,000 contacts before I realized what was happening. There is no fix at this time, and who even knows if Apple or Google are working on resolving the problem?!

I migrated from BlackBerry to iPhone when MobileMe launched. I miss the reliable syncing from my Blackberry days. It's frustrating that it is taking Apple/Google years to get rid of the bugs with their sync services.

WTF do you expect SJ to say? "No, it's going to stay the same crappy experience you've been a sucker to pay for" :D

No phone support for Mobile Me! = VERY BAD!

Besides terrible syncing issues, overpricing for cloud storage, and just the all around general bugginess of using MobileMe, one of the most frustrating issues is that there is no phone support for MobileMe customers! Apple's phone tech support has helped me time and again over the past decade, but when I've had real issues with MobileMe, I've had to do text messaging support and it almost never really solved the problem.

I am happy to hear that MobileMe might get competitive with competing services in terms of pricing and starts to treat the service with the same attention that they do other aspects of the Apple family.

I am a huge Apple Fan! I don't want to do dirty laundry in public, but No phone support for Mobile Me! = VERY BAD!

The Text Chats are no replacement for a Phone Call. Recently I wasted 1.5hrs on one of those Chats. I was given wrong info...

This is my Letter to Mobile Me Tech Support, via the Survey:

I hope Apple Reads it..., and Threads like these!

PART 1 - FAILURE...

I wasted over 1.5 hour with Apple, short phone Call Back from Apple Care - a DREAM! They Called me back in 5 minutes or so...

I explained to them the Issue:

My .Mac Sync was DISABLED and I never touched it...

I just noticed it today, Friday, December 3, 2010, when I tried to Sync/Update the Addresses on Mobile Me!!! Whatever is there is still there, but I couldn't Update it...

Apple referred me to Mobile Me Chat, and my Chat Advisor:) tried to refer me back to Apple Care...

This is what I wrote in the Survey after that Chat...

> -----------------------------------------

Case # = xxxxxxxxxxx http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4264 - The "advisor" admitted being on 15 Chats ALL AT THE SAME TIME! Thus he wasted both of our TIME, instead of telling me that my Mac OS 10.4.11 is no longer Supported my Mobile Me, according to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4264 I asked him to provide that URL...

As passionate Apple User, I am very NOT PROUD of the fact that Mobile Me doesn't have PHONE SUPPORT!!!! When iPhone was introduced in 2007, the Slogan was WE NEED TO TALK! I agree! Yet almost 4 years later, there is STILL NO PHONE SUPPORT FOR MOBILE ME! That's BAD!!!!!

I've been a LOYAL APPLE CUSTOMER! I am hardly a new to Mac etc. Apple Care sent me to Mobile Me, which tried to send me back to Apple Care, while this URL http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4264 said that:

The minimum system requirements are:

> Note: The below list of minimum system requirements does not apply to the new
> MobileMe Calendar (for which the requirements are specified in the above
> list).
>
> iPhone or iPod touch: iOS 3.1.3.
> iPad: iOS 3.2.
> Mac: Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard; Safari 4 or later, or Firefox 3.5.

And, since I am on 10.4.11, and it's not listed, I have been CUT OFF, as of

> Last Modified: November 22, 2010
> Article: HT4264

That's SNEAKY! Apple SHOULD have WARNED OS 10.4.11 Users like me! Ironically, I am about to buy New MacBook Pro, but still, such UNCARING by APPLE, doesn't make me too proud! But, I guess we'll keep this as our DIRTY SECRET... :)!!!!

Is this the kind of HEADACHES I am about to discover with Mobile Me, once I own MacBook Pro and iPhone 4 which I am also about to buy???????????????

Want to be nice? CALL ME!

THANKS....

> ------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, I am still passionate about my Mac LIFE, but this SUCKS!!!!

THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN ADVANCED WARNING!!!

So help me GOD when I'll be Upgrading to MacBook Pro, cause, thus far, the caliber of Support at Apple Stores has been less than impressive!!!! And I am a pretty experienced user!!! I can't even imaging what would happen to a more "civilian" users...

What SUCKS the most, to me, is the fact that Steve Jobs was inspiring all of us to embrace a DIGITAL LIFESTYLE, and so I did... Now, it'll be a HUGE HURDLE to get my Palm Desktop Memos/Notes into iPhone.

15 CHATS AT THE SAME TIME by ONE "ADVISOR" is SAD!!!! IT'S A JOKE! But, I guess it's even worse for Android, Google, Windows customers!

Still, I can't wait for my Upgrade to MBP 17' + iPhone, as soon as the dust settles after Verizon iPhone is out, hopefully ASAP!!!

PART 2 - SUCCESS... :)

THEN I RESTARTED... :)!

After all that BS, I Restarted my laptop, and my 10.4.11, Entourage 11.4.0, Office 2004 Syncs to .Mac fine! No missing Contacts... yet:)!

Thus, what's up with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4264 ?!

Of did Mobile Me Fixed itself just for me, after I gave them ALL WORST MARKS on their Follow Up Survey? I can only guess...

Quick Tip:

If I Sync while Logged into Me.Com and I am in Addresses, I won't see the latest change in Me.com by simply Reloading the Address Page in Safari. I'd have to switch to Mail or another App in Me.com and then back to Addresses to Refresh the Addresses, to display the results of the latest Sync... Pretty simple guess, if one has Intuition for stuff like that! Plus, yours truly Survived the Days of Extentions Manager and Conflict Catcher, and Rebuilding Desktop, remember:)!? Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh:)!

I hate that it takes forever for email to upload from my iphone using mobile me. Sending photo's is a mess.

It'd be nice if they sped up hosting. Last time I attempted to host a website on mobileme servers, it was painfully slow. I ended up hosting elsewhere.

I have found if you don't take the time to set Mobile ME up correctly you will have most of the problems detailed in this forum. I have my Mac Mini, iPhone, and iPad working 100% and have had no problems for weeks.

I had to get Apple to help me set it up 100%. Apple was great with their help.

It's 22 days until the end of the year. Looks like we getting December for free.

When I was at the Apple Store in Hawaii Apple offered me a 50% discount for Mobile Me next 12 months which I accepted.
OMG, there'd better be no kind of price-drop on MobileMe as I just bought a single pack from a guy on eBay for $165; according to him, it's a new version of MobileMe that no one else has yet.:mad:

Only two things need to happen:

1. SUPPORT 64-BIT OUTLOOK FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!
2. Better photo sharing and easy remote linking for the online photo galleries would be nice, too.

Next summer when it's over 100 degrees may I please sell you the world's first non-melting snowman? I guarantee you'll be the first to own it as no one else will have have it yet. :p
Why the hell would you buy a single pack for more than what Apple sells it for?

Na. But he could have just not replied at all.

Of course jobs would say this, what else is he going to say "no the service is going to remain crappy in 2011, but please keep giving is your money for it." ?
