I have also had the feeling that this was Steve Jobs "most important thing" he has ever done. He put so much time (many years) into this device and platform (software/hardware).

I look forward to see what he, and his Apple teams, have come up with on the 27th.

I am soo excited but I am trying not to get my hopes up just in case. The really sad thing to me is that this is very likely the last BIG thing Steve will create before he retires! :(

I have always wanted to see him give a keynote live in person, and I want to go to this event SOOOO BAD because it will probably be his last HUGE product! I'm soo sad I won't be there! :(

WHO'S EXCITED??????? :):):):):):):):apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! :D

If this quote is true, then this tablet is going to be something very special. Jobs might be thinking that the entire computer and media industries will be changed because of it. I cannot wait until Wednesday.

If so, it better change the world. I really doubt this thing could be better then what Apple did for the computing industry in its early days.

IF Steve has really been saying this, then it MUST be HUGE, because he has a pretty goo understanding of the industry, the products he has made, and their effect! Also, he is a master showman, so he would NOT be saying this with all the hype if he knew he wouldn't be able to deliver! He would be setting himself up for failure otherwise!

This is going to be VERY interesting! :eek:

I'm still hoping it's going to be a tablet that has a crease in the middle so you can fold it in half, and then the bottom half has a normal keyboard and a trackpad for easy typing and control of the cursor. Apple hasn't done anything like that in a while. :rolleyes:

I think the key to not getting your hopes dashed is to understand that what Jobs likely unveils this week may not tell the whole story.

View the tablet as a kind of blank canvas -- like the App store for the iPhone. The tablet is laying the groundwork for all these different capabilities the tablet/touch interface portends.

I think this will be the real important feature of the tablet.. it's going to allow everyone to customize how they use it in their lives and with their computers in a way that we haven't been able to do with our computers in the past. It's going to unchain us in a lot of ways and allow us to be more creative and use PCs more creatively and on the go.

The best way to envision this is to imagine how different people from different fields will use this technology. Imagine someone in music buying multiple of these tablets and creating their own custom touch workstation at their PC that fits their workflow to perfection. Then one of the tablets being used as the ultimate FingerWorks touch keyboard that was never made until now.

I think this is why Apple thinks they will sell so many of these. I think many people will end up owning more than one of these and using them at their PC for custom applications -- workstations - modular computer and control and using them in ways even Jobs can't imagine.

i was entertaining the fold up idea too, it would fold up into 4 pieces, and fit into the pocket like a cell phone! THAT would be AWESOME

a fully capable computer that fits into your pocket

I know it will cost under $350, and I also know that it will have a crease down the middle, with two screens. Most importantly, it will make reading fun, like, really social and awesome. We will look at it as if it's alien technology at first, then realize everyone will own this within this decade, just like the iPod. That is all.

i doubt this whole "reading will be fun" scheme... if theres links and pictures, and videos attached to what you're reading, you will just be tempted to view the media content as opposed to actually reading, and you would not get any work done...

@gamerw00t

It's not entirely that. It's the social interaction that makes things like MMOs fun, or Facebook. This will now be applied to reading. He's basically re-inventing books, who reads them, and what we can now do around them as a network.

Perhaps Gruber is right... that the tablet may change computing itself.

This Apple table hype reminds me of the hype in 2000-2001 around Segway. It was supposed to change the way the cities are planned and the introduction being as important as introduction of personal computer...

what, like leave comments by what you just read or something? like start a thread about something you read? then post a video of yourself talking about it and be like "i like the way the author of this article etc."? like that or what? and you can add to what the authors wrote or what?

@sjo
why does it not remind you of the (recent breakthroughs) iPod or iPhone, and how both of them changed the industry and what we expect from tech. Apple has a history of breakthroughs, and segway just doesn't compare in the right ways.

You know that the iPhone 3GS has a BOM cost of around $185, yes? A BOM that doesn't include assembly, royalty/licensing costs, R&D, packaging, peripherals, etc.?

And you think Apple can make their margins with a tablet at $350? Heck, Apple retails their iPhone around $700 in non-subsidized markets.

$350? Really?

Then I guess all Apple has to do is make sure you dont look like a complete tit while using the tablet

The Segway hype was in the middle of the dotcom boom, with little attention to the fact that cities don't have that much leeway in changing their infrastructure support.

While I won't call Segway an abject failure, it never took off. Heck, even in liberal San Francisco, citizens tried to keep Segway off of bike paths and pedestrian sidewalks. They were largely successful and Segways are mostly found in the Fisherman's Wharf area and mostly used by tourists.

TOPIC: Geolocation/Gps and Portability IS what makes the Tablet awesome

what, like leave comments by what you just read or something? like start a thread about something you read? then post a video of yourself talking about it and be like "i like the way the author of this article etc."? like that or what? and you can add to what the authors wrote or what?

Somewhat, but more like scheduled 'book club' events and groups. Both to be private and public, possibly with each group having a moderator, who guides each session, or whatever.

Also, don't forget one HUGE factor that I'm surprised nobody has even discussed much of. GPS/Geo location everything are becoming extremely popular extremely fast right now. This will be the decade that's known for this. With this in mind, this is the main thing that puts this tablet into existence. Without any type of strong geo-locating/gps, Steve Jobs would not have released this product yet. Lets start discussing some ideas around this type of portability.

(I use this to describe what makes it awesome, but I should have used the word 'different' or 'game-changing' instead.)

that sounds cool. like a digital map... a step up from a typical gps

and also i like the idea that teachers could add notes, maybe it could encourage classroom discussion, or a homework assignment would be to leave a comment on something you liked in the book... but then, everyone would have to have one (i can see this maybe happening in private schools)

Yes, yes. Its going to be an iPhone with a big screen. Which is good for elderly people having problems with screensize small iPhones. Thats it. Yes, yes.

Very possible. Also, I have another proposal - Augmented Reality will be used to a higher degree on an everyday basis once these tablets have been acquired by us consumers. So let's think of how Geo-locating and Augmented Reality will make this different than just a big iPhone, or just a smaller computer.

"Steve Jobs has been heard saying that the upcoming Apple tablet 'will be the most important thing I’ve ever done.'"

That is in fact true. I did say that! Can't wait to show you all on Wednesday!

Can you please verify that you are the real Steve Jobs of Apple?
