28 pages and no one still has no idea what this events about yet mr jobs is and i quote We haven’t heard this first hand, but we’ve heard it multiple times second and third hand from completely independent sources. Senior Apple execs and friends of Jobs are telling people that he’s about as excited about the upcoming Apple Tablet as he’s ever been.

Sounds like a game of Chinese whispers to me regardless everyone will cheer clap say OMG they finally did it they broke the chicken and egg puzzle. What ever happens on the 27th either bubbles are going to pop or there's going to be a new demand for giant phones again.

The thing that puzzles me and i dont think iam the only one but what exactly will the benefits be of having an ipod that's 10 inches when the existing sized ipods do a great job as it is i mean the ms demo of the hp slate thing was a poor poor effort i mean even ballmer looked like he was unsure of what use a slate pad tablet thing would have oOo look you could show pictures and read a paper and erm yea next.

Must admit this is the first time ive really made such a long winded comment on what is just a rumor but hey thats why i like this place

I agree; the tablet will be the most important thing he has done. Compared to a personal computer a tablet that runs a variation of the iPhone OS would be a device much more approachable by the non-technical person. What I love about my iPod touch is that getting applications and media content for it can all be done from the device itself without any real need for the computer it syncs to. There is no need to manually install applications, or manually update them, or back them up because everything is pretty much automatic. Personal computers need all that maintenance so that is always going to be a barrier between them and the average person.

if he is really this excited i will venture a guess as to why... i think the reason it would be so important is because from this point on laptops/netbooks/tablets will be built with cellular data connectivity meaning internet will truly be wireless/everywhere

but then again it'll suck if cell networks can't handle the bandwidth... hurry up the future!!!

I hear speak that Steve Jobs is going to kill a man on-stage at the event, only to reveal the capabilities of the iSlate, by bringing the man back to life, on the spot!

The Segway hype was in the middle of the dotcom boom, with little attention to the fact that cities don't have that much leeway in changing their infrastructure support.

While I won't call Segway an abject failure, it never took off. Heck, even in liberal San Francisco, citizens tried to keep Segway off of bike paths and pedestrian sidewalks. They were largely successful and Segways are mostly found in the Fisherman's Wharf area and mostly used by tourists.

Of course we are talking about completely different products. The similarity of the hype is different level, the industry structures are not easily changed, not by a single product. Even the internet alone wasn't enough to change industries, browser and several other innovations were required...

Saying that iphone changed the mobile industry is pretty ignorant, it only brought smartphones into the general knowledge in the US markets. Globally smartphones have been increasingly important ever since the Communicator released by Nokia 13 years ago. Even now, 3y after announcement of iphone, Apple only has low teens marketshare in smartphones. That's not industry change, it's evolution.

Hyping the Apple tablet changes several industries, that's just at another level of hype compared to iphone hype.

very exciting but.....

very exciting but..... but i want blu-ray support for DVDSpro!
come on Steve you know we all want it!:apple:

'The most important thing' Steve has done: released new MacBook Pros with i5 chips? You don't say! =)

Too much hype, there will be massive disappointment

Nothing, well except MBP spec'd, platinum plated and on sale for $99, could live up to this hype and anticipation. The reality of any announcement will be a big come-down and so the stock price will fall (which is a buying opportunity).

I'm actually off-net for a week so will come back when all this is old news. I doubt any of this fevered speculation will prove to be justified.

Fever pitch achieved, begin frothing at the mouth in

3...2...1

Im not fussed about a mobile media browser, since that’s what my iPhone is for, but if i can use this like a wacom cintiq, im getting one on day one. In fact it might explain the paint blotch invite.

augmented reality would be awesome!

who knows... it could be something REALLY futuristic...

I think Apple normally has a difficult time satisfying all the hype, but this tablet is just too much.

I can't wait to see what they unveil ,but its going to be tough to live up to the hype.

Indeed - if something is being called the "Jesus Tablet" before it's even unveiled, it's pretty hard to live up to that kind of hype.

all that hype is quite strange considering the "typical apple strategy". what will happen?

yes, apple will introduce an oversized ipod touch.
yes, apple will show books, magazines, video and games content on it.

but looking a bit closer, i can not understand why there is so much hype:

yes, this machine is going to cost a fortune. will it be 799$/799€? or 999$/999€? or even more (early adopters tax). is this good? no!

yes, apple will decide what you can watch/buy on this device. it kind of scares me that the one and only software source will be the app store. is it good that one company controls everything? controls even a large company like adobe or microsoft in what can be installed on the machine? where is OUR free will? where is our freedom of privacy?

i am also curious at what apple will bring on wednesday, but I can clearly see that this way is leading to a path that is not an open – and that worries me.

I think this will be the last big thing from Apple/Steve for a very long time. There just isn't somewhere else to create a completely new product / idea after this

this attitude is the reason you dont work for a company like apple and others who will make breakthrough products in the future do.

I reckon this is the 2nd most important thing Steve has ever done...
First most important thing would be getting a new liver.
