I think imacs will be updated, I really want them to be, I want a newer one myself with a superdrie, my combo imac is cool, but its always fun to have something new and shiny :)

Heres how I think it will work out to be

17" imac 800mhz -combo drive
17" imac 867mhz - superdrive
17" imac 933mhz - superdrive

I'd buy a mid range one for sure

What about pricing? Can they ship the low-end version you described at the current low-end price? i see something similar, but low-end remaining 15"... maybe they don't feel like they need to keep low-end iMac prices down thanks to the eMac...

Hmmm. . .

I also agree that it will be the iMacs to be updated because first of all, the PowerMacs just got the Mirrored Doors several months ago, however, the iMac form-function design has been around for a while.

We'll see. . .:p

I will be highly disappointed if after more than 1 year, the iMacs don't get more of a boost than 933 MHz. I am expecting 1 GHz at minimum and hope for 1.25 GHz.

I really think (hope) that if the iMacs get any sort of design or case change it will include a screen for handwriting recognition/input, it's about time they make some use for Inkwell and I don't think they would develop it just for third party tablets. And I think the iMac's current design is sooo ready for it, it already has the floating screen, just make it so it can be tightened up and more sturdy and voila! I'm probably dreaming here but what the hell.....

Well one pricing, I think apple will decrease the pricing once again, if not use there pricing scheme they have now. Its hard to tell.

The Washington Post did a piece on Mac World and Steve's new plans. They did not say great things, and Merryl Lynch rung a death bell regarding their plans.

Here is the story.

I don't quit agree with them, but the stock did drop. Note this is the first time Apple stock has dropped after a Mac World.

Personally I am a recent switcher, and bought two systems, iBook and iMac, you won't see me going back.

Since it is the CEO's job to lower expectations AND increase performance, I would have to give Steve Jobs an A so far based on the feedback so far from Expo, and the market penetration reported at retail and web orders. I have heard it compared to Macworld 1984 in fervor.

Motorola has held them back, and they have disclosed it to the SEC and have overcome it by focusing on Laptops and mid-range computers and have said so.

On a scale of 1-10 he is overall doing 9. Alan greenspan by reference is doing 1 on stock prices and 9 on interest rates.

Greenspan's intentional market crash hurt Apple sales alot.

Ohh here we go!!!

The apple is a dead company nay sayers are out in full force this time.
If you haven't notice Merryl Lynch and the washington post reporter are under M$ payroll, off course they are going to say that apple is going to down in flames.
I sick of hearing this things according to then apple should have die in 1984.

iBooks...

I am still kind of new to all the Mac things, so could someone tell me when the last iBook update was.

Last month? Or was it earlier. Either way it was thew new $999 iBook and higher end 14.1" model. I know the 14.1" was origionally released after the iMac LCD (same expo, MWSF in Jan 2002)

Did anyone read the whole article at Think Secret?

Steve doesn't just drop hints at desktops, which could include a Powermac 970, he suggests that there is much more to come in the year of the laptop, by saying: "Apple has a wonderful customer base. If we come out with innovative products, they're buying them."

Can you spell DLD? ;)

Actually, AAPL shares usually drop after a MacWorld keynote, at least since SF2000 (when I started paying attention).

Runs up beforehand on the buzz, falls after the keynote on the dissing of the "experts".

The article is misleading, too, in its suggestion that the Merril/Lynch comments came in response to the products released during the keynote, and in the implication that the cited 5¢ drop is proof that the market agrees with the mythical M/L 'keynote critique'.

In reality, AAPL is highly reactive to market fluctuations, and frequently loses (and gains) much more than a nickel for reasons that have nothing whatever to do with Apple or Apple's products.

In other words, the article is teh crap.

hmmmm

I'm a recent switcher....and I won't be going back, no matter how fast x86 chips get. I was always an AMD kinda guy anyway. That was abou the only way to rebel.

Looking back, I have only one regret about switching.....I didnt do it sooner.

I find it curious that all of these "analysts" are predicting that Apple will go under this year. I think they have all forgotten one very important component in a companies demise. In fact, there is only one thing that decides a companies fait.....profits (or losses). Market share and how many schools their products are in play a part in that equation, but individually, they are not overly important. They talk about slow sales (no, really, in a recession, go figure) and forget that, even with these slow sales, Apple is one of only 2 computer manufacturers that is currently profitable, excluding non operation and one time charges. The other is Dell. HP has posted losses in the BILLIONS, why aren't they doomed ? ? Because they run MS Windows ? Pllllease.......

Excluding the one time charge items, Apples 4th quarter profit would have been $7 million. And, while not alot, that's all it takes. So long as that number is in the black, Apple isn't going anywhere.

With that said, Mr Jobs still needs to give us reasons to buy more stuff.....but, I'm sure he will.

Ok, who is ready for today's lesson of the Stock Market and Events?

Analysts hype up any company before a big event, people see it as a buy and they buy. Smart investors know that after the event, the stock price goes down, so they sell it BEFORE the event when it's still on it's upswing. They may not get the top price, but beats losing. And since all the big players have got out, guess what, the price starts to go down and then all of a sudden, the analysts come back after the event and say things like this, "well, it wasn't a total knockout, so it looks bleak". Spin, spin spin!! There's more ways to take money from the little guy than meets the eye. Believe it.

Since you are new I will be lax, every expo Apple shares drop. Every expo. Not sure what they say in the article, but the stock drops every expo and regains a few days after. This is the first expo that the stock didn't drop more then 40¢ or so. So by all accounts, this was a very good expo.

WTF is DLD?

Mac15- you forgot, well...the 15 iMac :) Apple won't kill it when they can make it cheap and priced right. They could have 3 machines at or under 1k (emac/imac/iBook) so I don't think they'll kill the 15 yet.

You're setting your sights pretty low there - I would expect that the reason the iMac revision is being delayed is that Apple is waiting for the 7457 (due in February), which means the speeds should go from 1 GHz to 1.4 GHz. Also, I would have to agree with other posters that Apple should keep the 15". I hope Apple keeps the 15" with combo drive and lowers the price to $999. Maybe same strategy as PowerBooks, with a 19" model introduced? 19" sounds big, but, hey, a 17" laptop is pretty darn big!

HP can lose billions and easily rebound and make billions more next year. They are a huge company with lots stuff that does not run Windows and uses RISC based processors. Plus they are very hip to Linux on business stuff so lets not go overboard and make silly simple comparisons and conclusions.
