Are you really that foolish? Why would Apple have have an event today they have another in month or so to introduce basically the same product?

Nothing Jobs said makes any sense. Apple has time and time again said it would not entire the Netbook market because it does not make cheap products. Now Jobs is saying that they did not improve the Touch because they want to make a cheap product.

Apple has said that iPod sales have declined and not improving on the Touch is going to further erode sales.

You do realise that is more-or-less DVD resolution. Heck "Full HD" is only a little above 2MP. For recording it's good.

You don't live on Earth, then? You know, the planet with the "funnest iPod ever" commercials showing a whole bunch of games? Well, in that case, I'd invite you to visit this planet and see some of the game machine marketing, but currently it's overrun with whiners, so I doubt you'd enjoy it much. ;)

I don't think its this year . Possibly next year . Cause they just release the 64 gb.

I think it's more because hardly anyone views the iPod Touch as a frontline games machine.

Game machine?!? I play games in board meetings or to kill time in the airport, but gaming barely scratches the surface of the Touch. I sure hope they have a trick up their sleeve.

I guess apple is fair . To have all the devices a good thing . As in who would buy an ipod nano if an ipod touch has camera as well ?

You are kidding right? I bought 3 nanos to date and not a single touch. The only reason to buy touch is to play games and view movies at a larger screen since as a music player nano is much better in the first place. Focusing for new features on nano is brilliant, it looks like I'm gonna be buying my 4th nano tomorrow.

Jobs said Apple wanted to make a more affordable touch, not "a cheap product."

Look, as you say, Jobs was blowing smoke out of his lower porthole. Adding in a camera would cost Apple a few bucks -- it already has a capable processor. Given the rumors of production issues and the fact we didn't get an iPhone w/ camera I have to yell BINGO. Jobs was def. covering today.

These events take months to plan. A big venue like the Yorba center itself has to be reserved well before product manufacture is set in motion. It's not like Holiday Inn where you call up and reserve a room for next month. So when a production snafu occures the show must go on... and it did yesterday.

That dosen't preclude that an iPhone w/ camera won't be released, perhaps silently, or at a different (already scheduled, but unannounced) event in the coming months -- like for new i5/i7 Macs. Recall the all-new iPod Shuffle was announced separately from the other iPods earlier this year, but then updated today.

It's also possible that Apple decided to hold the Touch w/ camera back for a "special edition" project, like the Beatles or something. I'm certain there will be an Touch w/ Camera before next year's iPod announcement.

Guys you all got it wrong, there is no polishing going on, in fact the interview here has an obvious error in transcription.

It should be:

He is learning a new language, he is not working on a product.

Meaning after his health issues Jobs is setting new priorities in life, something many people do after going through similar situations in life. :p

It looks like January is going to be a big month! But now with Apple not being at Macworld, the announcement could come at any time. I can't see them announcing a tablet before Christmas though - it seems like that line-up is pretty much solidified as of today.

I don't think he ever said that. He said something to the effect that they wouldn't make a $500 netbook because they can't make one for that price that isn't a piece of junk.
 
I just hope the fact that the iPod Touch lineup was refreshed doesn't mean it's completely barred from updates until a full year from now. It's nice to see that the price tag was slashed $100 on the 32gb model. Still, I sort of have an uneasy feeling in my gut telling me that if I bought one now, I'd regret it, and by late Winter a model with camera functionality would suddenly appear as an extra "one more thing" type of deal.

On the Apple store, I noticed that the 8gb Touch doesn't have Voice Control listed as a feature. I thought this is just part of the iPhone OS 3.1. Is there some extra hardware actually needed to process voice commands, other than a microphone obviously?
