The question re: the Pro status isn't exactly new.
I know it's not new. It just seems that every revision turns their "Pro" line into the MacBook Bling.

Tired old arguments of what a Pro line really is with the Quadro/FireGL people, quad cores, and dual hard drives. A lot of people would love to get a Mac but Apple isn't offering a mobile workstation.

At the end of the day, "Pro" is a just a marketing term.

Sad but true for Apple.

Well, I think Apple finally did the right thing with the uMB by adding FireWire. I'm certainly interested in having a one-to-one with Apple's new 13" MacBook "Pro", even if that means a 4-hour trip, one way, to my closest Apple store. The 13" is the right size for a lot of people. I expect it'll sell well. But I'll probably be willing to wait for the Rev.B version... ;)

It only took 3 years to almost get it right. We have a 15" MacBook now.

Actually the 13" plastic MacBooks w/FireWire have been the nearly-perfect machine for many musicians since the C2D version came out, although the black ones always looked better on stage. A shiny version with a better screen might be even better. We'll see...

It's surprising how the plastic MacBook was and is the PRO machine to get.

Yeah, Firewire is back baby!

So who wants to bitch about losing the expresscard slot on the 15"?

In all seriousness, it does mean that mobile TV crews that do an IOHD breakout box on the FW800 and an eSATA GSpeed or Firmtex RAID via the express card slot are boxed in to the 17 incher.

Totally. As an audio guy, we need external storage on a 2nd bus not shared with audio firewire bus, thus need expresscard...

Don't care about the expresscard slot but the base model 15" "lost" the 9600GT. You have to get the middle model now, and still you only get 256Mb VRAM. It's going to be so funny when people figure that out! :D

You have to applaud Apple's ability to make it look cheaper and still raise the prices a little. The "Pro" just got less Pro...

LOL! Yes, its decidedly semi-pro now! At least they admitted the older screens were junk on the 13". The graphics card will catch more than a few people out, I think.

Since I just bought the top model MBP a week ago fully aware that updates might come I made out the best. Nothing was taken away for me (I have no use of the express slot) and I got speed increases and I will be getting money back. Sucks that they removed it from the base model though.

The base model is now $1699, not $1999 as it was before. The $1999 MBP (which is what I paid) still has the 9600GT but also adds a faster proc and the better battery. Better battery being subjective, depending upon who you ask.

Disappointing about the ExpressCard. I don't have a use for it, but it could be handy in the future, and it's something I'd like to know is there for when I need it.

I can hardly imagine that my petition finally triggered Apple to put back FireWire to the 13" MacBook model. But I will try to talk myself into believing that... :D

As I was saying...

As I mentioned before, firewire was returning to the MacBook (based on inside information which I am not at liberty to disclose the source of).

I would like to think that this thread, the online petition, and the e-mails helped more than a little...

RE: Lack of Firewire

RE:
"if you are waiting for firewire to come back you will most likely not ever be buying a Macbook"

Gee, guys around here have to eat their words awfully fast, eh?

RE: Zero chance...

RE:
"Zero chance."

Would you like some salt to sprinkle on your words before you eat them?

Don't kid yourselves guys, this was always an issue of branding (MB v MBP) and product differentiation. They have resolved that issue by rebranding the Ally MB as an MBP 13" which in my opinion makes perfect sense.
:)

I'm sure Apple has people that read these forums. Hopefully they will take notice, and remedy this embarrassing omission in the next model of Macbook.

I wouldn't count on this.
No offense but please tell me you're joking, right? Apple listening to their customers in regard to how to design their products...

Seriously, man, snap out of it. That is hilarious! :D
BWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I love it when I predict the future. :)

Looks like a Macbook is back on my options list, now that they've added back in the Firewire.
