I'm just waiting for the replacement to this thread:

Steve Jobs on Lack of ExpressCard Slot in Mac Book Pros
:( :D

Firewire is back!

Glad to see that FW800 will be reinstated on the 13" renamed MacBook Pro.

This should wrap up this thread now.

Bungie

Well, sort of... now that our Blackbook suddenly died yesterday  I can throw out all of my FW cables and get new, FW800-miniFW ones...:(

Yeah, we win :)

Now I want to see the "WTF did they do with the Express card slot on the MBP" thread, will it have the legs that this one had?
:D:D

I just have to say to all those trolls, and apologists who kept on saying that Firewire was dead, and gave us moaners a hard time for being so upset about this almighty mess up, I'd like to give them all a big one finger salute

Well done guys :)

What we have done is implement an age old political technique:

Whinge/sook/whine loud enough and you will get what you want ;)

Finally...

So glad that Apple finally saw the light ... they definitely weren't "light years ahead" on this issue!

The uproar and length of this thread was clearly a sign that the company had taken a wrong turn, and the Apple apologists here just didn't get it. I'm not in the market for a new laptop (still happily using a 2007 Firewire white macbook for audio work), but the new 13" mac book pro looks sweet.

That said, what's with the non-replaceable battery and SD slot?

That's easy.

The non-replaceable batter allows for longer battery life -- which is great for a laptop.

The SD slot is for the most common memory type used for digital cameras and digital video recorders.

Personally, I am not happy to see the Express Card slot eliminated because it provided options for the user such as an SD card reader, eSATA connection, etc. However, I understand the logic behind the move.

Firewire is finally back again in a FW800 port. Not on a MacBook but on a MacBook Pro 13" no less at a decent price. All the whining here prolly helped. Now students, musicians, filmers, artists, etc – can get back to creating cool s*** without worrying bout how to interface their hardware with their laptop. For me, this sends big props to Apple for listening. THX! Think it's time to bury this thread.

What might that logic be?

Unless you would need the expresscard slot for another firewire-bus...

Besides the unibody MacBook never got any firewire. Check the Apple specs... It was the MacBook Pro line that got a 13" model. So, actually we're all correct and/or happy, no need to finger anyone! :p

You telling me that no one has created that thread yet? I am genuinely surprised. I would think it is almost as controversial as the firewire issue. (Well not quite but you know what I mean).

Yeah, rejoice while you can. When USB 3.0 comes out in a few months, I'm sure they'll eventually remove firewire on *all* Macs. USB 3.0 will deliver 4 GBit after protocol overhead, which is more than the upcoming firewire 3200 will be able to deliver theoretically, and since Apple has a passion for removing ports and other stuff whenever there's an opportunity, their new wet dream will be to drop everything except USB3 and Mini DisplayPort.

There have been many reports on here that the ExpressCard slot on the Unibody MBP never did work work with any firewire card on the market, so you really haven't lost anything in that respect; it was always crippled. I think it is great that they finally brought back firewire.
