I especially hope that the resignation isn't related to cancer. Even though the stock will probably drop by a huge amount, I'm sure that he's right when he said that Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead.

As much as we like to imagine Steve as a dictator, I sincerely doubt that he made that call on his own. They follow the money like everyone else, and that's not going to change with Cook at the helm.

This entitlement thing really doesn't fly. Customers aren't sponsors and they're not Don Corleone... companies don't owe you anything. What they owe you is that the products you buy at any given time keep functioning until the warranty expires.

Said professionals got what they wanted for 20 years, and since they're professionals we can assume they made a good living using those tools. I know I sure did. So who should be thanking who? If a new demographic comes along that offers me truckloads more money than my existing customers, well, I'm sorry but I'm not going to pass up that opportunity in favor of some romantic "for old times' sake" martyrdom...

This is all true.

I don't begrudge Apple for following the money and amassing huge profits; even at the expensive of the professional market. Still, would it have really killed Apple to not slap those who stuck by the company through thick and thin in the face by addressing dire concerns with software and hardware such as the sound overheat defect for the 2009 Mac Pro? How about not releasing an abomination such as Final Cut Pro X?

If Apple didn't care about the pro market anymore, they should be more forthcoming about it. Instead they played a game of duplicity which left many wondering if Apple was even remotely interested in retaining them as customers. Nothing worse than hedging your workflow on what looks like an abandoned niche.

So, good on Apple for following the money - just know that it works both ways.

Should the average consumer be less enthralled with Apple in the near future for whatever reason and Apple decides that neglecting the pro market segment wasn't such a good idea after all, just don't come crawling back to us.

Well we all know whats happened to Microsoft when Balmer took over.

Apple going to share the same fate?

It's the beginning of the end of an era. Steve Jobs' influence at Apple will hopefully stay with the company for a very long time. Surely when faced with difficult questions, many of the decision makers there will be asking themselves "What would Steve do?"

i guess neither is the app store nor the mac store....directly links to dloading software. billions of apps dloaded. no...not innovative.

Not innovative at all.

Ever heard of Darwin BSD? Probably not. It's what Apple stole and based your OS off of. You want to know a close relative of BSD in general? Linux.

Take a wild guess how many app stores Linux has.

3+, last time I checked. The were doing that stuff years ago. There is NOTHING innovative about Apple. It's just that nobody catches them because they steal their ideas from obscure stuff.

Microsoft even became more successful and Windows is the most used OS in the world.
The same way you used Microsoft Office at college / university.

For whatever the Jobsians credit to Steve's "vision", I'm happy for the change. It's time for some risk taking and true innovation. The core issue with Apple is that they haven't really "innovated" in 3 years. Don't you dare say iOS, it hasn't really changed for longer than that. Lion is actually a step backwards, they got rid of the last poly MacBook, and all of their computers look alike, which isn't good.

Mr. Cook. Take the steps.

Put Lion on an iPad 2 form factor - or at least let customers choose if they want the stripped down "big ol iPod Touch", or if they want the FULL experience on the right form factor. Watch it fly off shelves. Profit.

Release a standard non-iMac (read: customizable) desktop computer.

Bring back different designs for your laptops.

Innovate. Not stagnate.

TO Mr Jobs. I hope you do well physically. But your finger-on-the-trigger mentality is just not healthy. No more Jobsians. As with Charles Manson, the cult must be broken.

I just love armchair CEOs. No matter how successful you are, there's always some idiot on a forum telling you how to innovate. Tosser.

The sad reality is that you literally signed up just now so you could post that. Do you really have nothing else you could be doing with your time right now? You sir are pathetic, as am I for wasting my time responding to people on MacRumors like you.

How is that sad?

10minutemail.com + knowing how to type because I'm not computer illiterate = an account.

An account + a tabbed browser = the ability to check back here for a couple seconds every 5-10 to see if there are any more hipsters crying about Jobs resigning.

I love how nobody has a real comeback for the fact that even though you guys were raving about the App Store, Linux has had multiple App Stores for a long time now.

They have had zero projects take off since he took over, Office and Windows was well established under Gates.

Steve's tax dollars at work.

I hope he dies a slow and painful death so all you drones on macrumors can whine and talk about how important the is. He is not a revolutionary, all of the major, "innovations" that apple ever made were copied from somewhere else. The only thing good thing that apple ever did was their marketing. They managed to advertise, and sell inferior products to idiots like you. I hope you enjoy your dying brand, because soon it will be outdated and useless like your dying leader.

Everyone dies sometime. Some richer and more accomplished than others.

Lol, people here make such a big deal out of someone who signs up to post something as if it were equivalent to buying a house.

So u wish death on someone because ur a windows guy? How about his wife and kids? Any compassion for them? It's obvious that u r just an ignorant jealous person. And Inferior products? That just shows how stupid and naive u really r. I'm no fanboy. I buy technology and gadgets based on how well their made and the thought that goes into them. I turned to apple because they make superior products. And what tablet is superior to iPad? Truth is that NONE OF THEM even come close.
