... I'd be more scared if Johnathon Ives left lol (He is the principal designer of the iMac, titanium and aluminum PowerBook G4, G4 Cube, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.)

Actually, he did try to leave. Well, he wanted to return to England and work from there. But, Apple told him no. I wonder now that Steve is gone, if Ives will be soon behind him.

I love reading the first page of any article, then jumping to the last page, and the first post I see is always some argument or flame war post.

I don't care if you like SJ or not. He is leaving ON TOP. Not too many people get to leave their profession on top. The Beatles did it. Jim Brown did it. Some leave the world on top, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, etc. But Jobs completed something he started some 35 odd years ago.

Apple is the most valuable brand, the most reputable brand, the best selling retail store, the most valuable company by market cap (Exxon what have you done this past week?), the list goes on and on.

Steve Jobs was a visionary more than anything else. He wasn't a brain like Bill Gates. BG is extremely wealthy, but he never headed a revolution such as Jobs did. Several revolutions.

Sadly, this doesn't bode well for his future life if he had to quit because of medical reasons. I wish him long life. This is a guy that did more by 30 than we all collectively did from birth to right now.

Smarts, luck and good old work ethic helped him create a company that will live on after Jobs has gone from this planet.

To all the Apple haters. It must suck to be you. That slick Apple logo on just about everything you see around you. See any movies lately? Spot the Apple. Walk down the street.. those white headphones? Apple. Thanks Steve. I love the Haters because they are the ones either defragging/scan disking/viruses checking/spyware cleaning their Windoze machines, are they are the Linux guys who can't do much of anything. Oh, maybe they can go compile a printer driver or something...

And to the Mac fanboys, lay off the Apple punch. Apple makes mistakes. But they make success more than mistakes. I love Apple, but I've had posts dropped so often from the Apple Discussion Forums because of negative comments when something Apple did didn't sit well with me.

Bottom line, Apple will move on, Steve Jobs will be remembered forever, and we shouldn't waste time flaming about issues that don't really matter in the long haul. Apple as a business made mistakes, bad ones, in the past. they will certainly not repeat those, I don't care who's running the place. The Apple culture Steve planted years ago has blossomed and we are good to go for the long future.

Steve, thanks for all the computers and innovation! You helped define my career and I'll always remember you for that.

Well, at least it was better than I thought when I started hearing it on TV- I thought they were going to announce that he died. I'm glad that isn't the case, though I am convinced he is stepping down because of his health problems. I hope he gets the rest and tranquility he needs.

Though I do expect a temporary dip, I'm hoping the stock will generally continue to rise. Apple still has a lot of innovation to do.

Let's see what Microsoft has released under Ballmer...

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows VIsta
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Home Server
  • Windows Home Server 2011
  • Windows Azure
  • WIndows Phone 7
  • ...

This doesn't even touch on SQL Server, Exchange, Visual Studio and dozens of other products.

Are you trying to make people laugh?

I should thank him for posting. I needed a good laugh upon hearing this sad news.

God bless you, Steve. You are the greatest inventor of all time.

Future generations will read about Steve Jobs, as I had read in my youth of men like Thomas Edison.

If may make a comment about the possible timing..my contacts at The Walt Disney Company have said that Jobs has been seen around Burbank more than usual..there are rumors from WDC that Jobs and WDC are planing a very large project...

Here's to hoping his health gets better and he gets to see his company continue to flourish under new leadership.

....though I do feel like I just got punched in the stomach a little bit

:apple:

Jobs, I have no words to describe my admiration for you and what you have done to Apple.
I have been using Macs since 1993 and had to endure the prospect of seeing Apple disappear, especially during those Gil Amelio's years.
You have transform completely the industry and how we interact with computers on our day to day lives. I make my living using Apple products and I am so glad I am still doing it so.
I wish you all the best and a full recover. I hope your new role will be better for you and your family.
Thank You!

Much respect to Jobs and all he's done for the company, it's truly amazing how far Apple has come. On a more positive note, hopefully this'll open up the possibility towards improvements such as optional blu-ray support, usb 3.0, HDMI out, resolution independence and etcetera.
