I wish he would have stepped down earlier, before his health went South, like Bill Gates. This abrupt decision seems pretty scary. I hope his health hasn't gotten worse.

Cya around Steve.

iCan't believe it!
It's now at the online Apple Store!

$400 for an Mp3 Player!

I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional.

Uuhh Steve, can I have a PDA now?

Notice the 'had' and 'for decades' in "they had major problems for decades after Walt died".

Yes, Disney is in a lot better shape today than during that period, but it took a long time.

You may want to read up on the time after Walt passed, because I doubt Apple can afford to let what happened to Disney happen to them.

My mistake, I stand corrected. I was looking at the company at present, not right after he died.

Thanks for a great ride Steve. Been on board since 1998 when I bought my first iMac. Thanks for the innovation and to making life better. :apple:

I don't expect this to be the end of the Stevenotes, I'm sure he will be on stage in the September keynote. He is still the face of Apple, and that will never change.

No, he's not. Yes, it did change...

That's the entire point of this change. Tim Cook is the new face of Apple. It's perfectly acceptable to be upset about it or even turn your consumer-self away from the company, but it's a little silly to deny it.

I think that the timing was right. Mr. Jobs is leaving the company on top. In all metrics, corporate culture, profitability, market value, mobile market penetration, Apple is the leader.

It was never about money. I think, instead, Steve Jobs is driven by aesthetics... doing something right. Doing something elegantly... not purely for the sake of appearances. Form suits functionality. A product's 300 best features are only as useful as the worst aspect of its interface design will render them.

I have read at least five write-ups on Steve Jobs today. I expect there are probably hundreds more in just the mainstream media. I paused for a second to think about that: Most contemporary CEO's are lucky if they get a paragraph. Every write up I've read is a full blown history of Mr. Jobs accomplishments. One put it perfectly, Jobs' greatest innovation was not any individual Apple prouduct... but Apple itself, the bench mark for corporate culture AND profitability.

Congratulations, Steve. You won the game.

Steve Job's is one of the greatest businessmen and CEO's the world has ever seen. Not only did he create the most innovative technology company in the world, but he also brought them back to become the biggest company in the world after they almost failed. Best of luck to you in the future Steve. We love your company and your products and hope for many more great years

Quite possibly the WORST day of my life. I golfed a 100 today.

My Steve senses just wouldn't let me golf well, and now I know why.

You don't have anything worse to think about or going on in your besides this news? Some people priorities are backwards.. It's only a CEO of a company

James

I get that some are slightly saddened by this news, but don’t you think ‘crying’ and all of the other extreme posts are a bit too far for a guy that, at the end of the day, the majority of us don’t actually know? Apart from keynotes, unless innovation suffers, this won’t have a real day to day affect.

Huh? People were falling all over themselves when the iPhone was announced. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

They do that every time Apple releases a new product. Then, within about two or three weeks, the majority of them are complaining about said product.

That's the mentality of a lot of people on here. Steve Jobs stepping aside as CEO is far, far worse then anything going on in the world. Supposedly.

I wish Jobs all the best. I hope he does stay around and continues to be a key voice within the company. I also have no doubts that Apple will be fine with Cook at the helm.

Goodbye Steve. Thanks for all the memories.

I couldn't stop shedding a tear for him this morning, when my wife gave me the bad news after waking up. His message was short but to the point, as usual: it is the end of an era, indeed.

SJ is right up there with business visionaries such as the great Henry Ford and Walt Disney - and surely the world's BEST business/technology leader of the post-war years.

He and his company's products have shown me that originality, innovation, passion and a sincerely customer-driven experience are possible, even in a morass of copycats and strictly profit-driven initiatives.

In order to pay a humble homage, please see below the machines I've used over the last 25 years:

Without ever owning a single unit of Apple stock, I have also converted more than 15 friends and relatives to the same high-quality products - none of them has ever regretted that.

Steve, as a longtime Apple fanboy I can only wish you a wonderful time with your family and loved ones while still walking on this Earth; may the Christian God bless you and forgive your sins - thank you again and carpe diem, Sir..!
