Well this is a total bummer. :(

And about new products... what is really more important? His health or him releasing new products? Come on people. Who knows, maybe the new iMac and Mac mini are already done. Maybe they have started the ideas and designs but are waiting to release the until Steve is better.

Dear New Guy:

Stop making computers and stick with just the iToys. License out the OS to other hardware makers. Sell off your video and audio apps to a company that actually cares about content artists.

Carry on.

amazing how big this is on the news networks. no other ceo would ever get this kind of attention.

I think it's just me but I don't hold the "Sky is falling" attitude.

He'll be back in July.

My Birthday is July 3rd. I shall look forward to that day ;)

Many wishes to Steve and his family at the moment. Get better soon!

And yes, good luck all you AAPL holders. lol.

Seriously, I really think at this point this is best (the leave of absence)....not only for Steve and his health, but for Apple.

Apple needs to start to emerge from this outside perspective that Steve runs Apple, and Steve designs all the software, and Steve designs all the hardware.

Over the years, Steve has no doubt worked hard to put the people in place that understand and share his vision for Apple products. I think we need to start to see these people emerge and come into focus so that the public understands that Apple will survive without Steve Jobs.

As for the stock market.....Apple just needs to release great new products and no one will care who's sitting in the corner office anymore. Let the products speak for themselves!

Best of luck to Steve though....I hope his health improves.

No other CEO needed this kind of attention. He's all over CNBC but it's not in a good way. There's gonna be a lot of pissed off investors in a few minutes.

Give the guy a break - people can't live forever. If he didnt go today, he'd be going at some point or another.

All the best Steve and I wish you all the best.

Exactly. It's a simple fact of life, nobody is irreplaceable. In case he goes, Apple continues as a company...just pray that John Sculley doesn't make a surprise return.

As an Apple rabid fan and customer, I wish him all the best and hope all is fine after some months...but I tend to concur with other posters here; this is almost surely his last day as a CEO...you may start writing your unauthorized biographies now.

Who knows what the problem is. But AAPL deserves to half tank if only because this was inevitable and Apple has been a case study of denial.

Denial? If Apple folded tomorrow it could deliver back more cash per share than almost any company in any industry because they have so many billions in the bank. Way more than Dull, er, Dell, which operates in the red perpetually, or HP. Save for maybe Sony who has many wings and assets and sometimes Microsoft but even they arguably cash-on-hand verses inflated stocks, don't have that much.

The only denial has been that their stocks weren't valued MORE than they were, or are currently, because they're one of the few that has actual bank, most don't.

The only thing that worries me is that Apple has not been successful without Jobs.

When Jobs left Apple in 1985, it was the result of losing a power struggle with the board of directors. At that time, his influence at Apple was not preserved. This time, it is.

hope.....

And prayers up for Steve and his family. This was news we did not wish to hear.

Let's collect those prayers and send them where the Almighty receives them. And may they be answered by His grace.
