I know this is heartless but the stock price did pop up in my head. I own a few and am concerned.

With his medical issues, the man just needs to retire and enjoy life while he can. It's not like he can't afford to retire.

I think what he enjoys the most in life is working at Apple. Why retire (ever) if you work with what you love?

Just because Steve is leaving for a little while doesn't mean Apple will go 'poof' or something.

Unless you're in it for the short term you shouldn't be concerned... Apple will perform regardless over the long term.

People like Steve Jobs love their work. I have a feeling he's enjoying his life incredibly when he's working on the next big thing.

Spending time on stuff you love doing is time well-spent.

Maybe it's an American thing, but for us Europeans, a message beginning simply with "Team,..." instead of something like "Dear Team,..." sounds rather, let's say, disrespectful. You'd only do this in the military.

Besides that, I think one does not need a a PhD in Mathematics to calculate the probability of Steve's health forcing him to retire permanently in the very near future.

I don't think that Apple will stay a shining star without him, but it would still be interesting to know who will be in charge once he's left the company.

Riiiight. The funny thing is, Macrumors posted this right after I emailed Jobs asking him why Apple is not selling unlocked iPhones in the US. Coincidence? Steve, don't run away from the question! :D

Anyway, hope he gets better. He didn't look as bad as couple years back though.

Let's face it folks. This is it for Steve. He will NOT come back. They are smart by announcing a 'medical leave of absence' as to not shake up the investors too much (but their stock will take a hit). They will let Tim Cook run things during some successful launches to show people he can get the job done.. then later announce Steve's retirement.

And if you're wrong?

..then Steve comes back after the leave of absence. Easy huh?

I just realized: no iOS 4.3 event w/ The Daily? No iPad 2 keynote? What about WWDC? It's not quite the same without Steve, you know.

Bill Gates retired around the same age, although he is still the chairman of Microsoft and oversees some of the decisions. I think it's a good idea for Steve to do this, it doesn't necessarily mean it's something serious. Perhaps he actually does just want to take it easy and focus on his personal life and health?

I wish him a speedy recovery!

That being said, he can't be CEO forever...he'll want to quit someday and enjoy life...as well as the fact that nobody lives forever.

But I have always wondered (even back in 1983), will Apple really continue to be such a creative and lucrative company when Jobs leaves? I believe not and feel within a few years of Jobs' departure it will turn into the run-of-the-mill publicly traded company that we all hate...stale products, lack of creativity, etc.

If Tim Cook becomes CEO sometime, I hope he continues every nook and cranny of Jobs' management style which is the only management style that has excelled Apple.

If anything happens to Steve I'm crying like a baby.
If I start to see any ************, half baked Apple products I'm leaving Apple. I hate the pc so much I should be locked up at Guantanamo Bay Prison.
Although the greater tech industry would live to see Apple fall. They could go back into making bul**** products and sitting on their a** like the are used to.

We all hope you have a full and speedy recovery steve
Take care of yourself
will be some interesting aapl stock action tommorow -

Hang on...

It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day so the NYSE is closed today...

Seems like a planned thing if they are closed all day? Avoid panic and avoid to much of a drop in stock price.

Apple up to their old games again.... hope this is as simple as just 'leave'.

Corrected that for you. I'm not even sure about germans. In none of the languages I can understand (swedish, danish, norwegian, spanish) would I find this disrespectful.
