..and Microsoft has been GARGABE ever since. Hope APple doesn't follow that fate.

Are you kidding?

Microsoft's Enterprise apps have gotten better on a massive order of magnitude. SharePoint 2010, Lync Server, Search Server, Exchange 2010.

Huge improvements and listening to exactly what the business customer wants. Even the Win7Mobile devices are decent, need some tweaks, but they are solid products.

Without much detailed information it would perhaps point towards this IMHO. :(

Unfortunately, this is where Apple's secrecy leads to rumor mongering. I notice he didn't give a timeline, which will fuel speculation that this is serious. Fortunately, Tim Cook did a decent job last time.

Hopefully all will be well. It wouldn't surprise me if Steve Jobs eventually steps back as CEO and stays on as Chairman.

Later today Apple will be announcing it's "Back to Flash" event and also the support of Blu-Ray...

Then again this could just be a leave of absence in the end.

He had a major organ transplant and I'm sure has worked pretty much 7 days per week since he was able to walk out of the hospital.

Something no doctor will recommend. If future product plans are set and things are on track this might be the time to take off for a bit.

With his medical issues, the man just needs to retire and enjoy life while he can. It's not like he can't afford to retire.

Amen.

I hope he calls it a day. It's an incredibly achievement to survive his condition this long. He needs to take time to smell the roses. His legacy is assured.

best wishes to Steve and family

Our family is wishing Steve and his family the very best. Apple's products have brought us a great deal of joy for three decades.

Get beter SJ
And make some even better products…

I hate to see anyone need to take a leave of absence for medical reasons.

One thing Steve has that many of us do not, is the resources to afford the very best medical treatments and hopefully that means he will get better and his prognosis is rather positive.

Pancreatic cancer is one of those illnesses that usually has a poor prognosis and so hopefully this is not a recurrence of this. He already has beaten the odds with this once.

all the best steve
But at least, we could get a 2 button mouse finally
wishing steve the best of luck

Hope he gets better, for his & his family's sake.
Plus, I can't imagine what direction Apple would take without him (or a similar visionary) at the helm!

Sadly

Let's face it folks. This is it for Steve. He will NOT come back. They are smart by announcing a 'medical leave of absence' as to not shake up the investors too much (but their stock will take a hit). They will let Tim Cook run things during some successful launches to show people he can get the job done.. then later announce Steve's retirement.

Sadly, I think you are spot on.

get well very soon steve. i think Tim is going to de the job as well as jobs. i mean as if steve is pulling every great idea out of his own head and the rest of the staff is just listening.

While not a perfect metaphor, he does chart the path the ship takes to get to where he thinks the future is. He also has the last say on everything.

The Verizon deals most likely show Tim's gradual assession to CEO. IMO, the big question is what role Phil and Peter will fill if Steve retires.

Rest Steve. We understand. :apple:

Let's all hope he's OK. I believe that he came back WAY too soon from his transplant in 2009. But undersanding how big 2010 was for Apple, I can understand why he did.

Corrected that for you. I'm not even sure about germans. In none of the languages I can understand (swedish, danish, norwegian, spanish) would I find this disrespectful.

Personally, I find a message that does not have a dear/hi/hey plus a name is rude.

Someone emails me without my name or just uses my name without a hi/hey, etc, I bin the email without reading further.
