I know this is heartless but the stock price did pop up in my head. I own a few and am concerned.

Yeah I am concerned for health but....I own a lot of apple stock and this is not going to be an easy day for me....prolly gonna dump it all Tuesday. I really can't afford this news right now. Even though I expected it sooner or later.

This news is somewhat eerie because when I seen Tim Cook sitting alongside the Verizon CEO taking the Q&A session and unveiling the Verizon iPhone 4, I immediately thought it was odd that it wasn't Steve instead.

I really hope this isn't serious, but he wouldn't take leave if it wasn't. There's already some morbid rumours doing the rounds, from his cancer returning to his body rejecting the transplanted liver.

Get well soon Steve, prayers are with you.

Steve Job's legacy is not assured unless there is an iron-clad succession policy in place. If the company fails in his absence, he's really built nothing at all then has he?

I'll hope for the best and keep any doomsday comments for laughs later. Apple is a machine now, and almost prints money. Steve is/was a very hands-on manager but has extremely talented people right bellow him. I'm not worried for Apple or Apple stock.

I'm just hoping we don't loose a technology pioneer more than anything.

Personally, I find a message that does not have a dear/hi/hey plus a name is rude.

Someone emails me without my name or just uses my name without a hi/hey, etc, I bin the email without reading further.

Wow. I'm sure you don't work at an office. Or use email.

Seems like Apple might have been waiting to announce this for some time.

This might be a reason he wasn't the one announcing the Verizon iPhone in New York (I know maybe he didn't think it was important enough but who knows).

I mean announce it on a holiday when the US stock market is closed so that stocks can't really drop. Then tomorrow they release their earnings report and it will stop people from selling Apple Stock.

Smart Apple. Really smart.

Could be something serious but I'm really hoping its not.

Here's a little preview:

AAPL earnings are released tomorrow. VZW was announced last week. This has all been crafted and the stock won't take a hit. For the market, the reality of the earnings will outweigh the emotion of this announcement. The last time Jobs took a "leave" the iPad launched - he was barely back in time to be at the release event.

Everyone had AAPL in the grave in the mid 90s when they were barely $11 a share. If you still think the stock lacks resilience after its long AND short term performance over the past 15-16 years, you're a fool.

So sad. I saw this coming but hoped he would be an exception to the norm when it comes to such a serious problem. May God bless him and heal him.

Hoping for better -

I was thinking that Mac Rumors would be one of the few websites that wouldn't search for a photo of SJ when he looked his most gaunt and frail to use with this headline -

I wish people could stop talking about the stock and be more concerned about the health of this husband and father the stock is the least of the issues.

Best wishes, Steve. If there was ever a man to admire for his life's work, and the kind of person he is, that man is Steve Jobs. Obsessively perfect at every task, passionate, strong willed, and a true visionary, I dare say there has not been a single person that has changed the world more in both the 20th and 21st centuries than Steve.

I'm a strong believer that as long as Steve Jobs and Jony Ive are at Apple, then Apple will stay Apple. Steve comes up with the vision, and Jony turns it in to what we all get in our hands. From beginning to end, this duo is the strongest in the industry by far. As long as either one of them are there, I don't think we'll see much change.

When Steve leaves his current position (God willing, not for a long time) I believe Tim Cook is the perfect person to carry out Steve's vision. My problem is what happens, not after Steve, but after Tim leaves. When someone is at the helm who has had no direct influence from Steve. He is truly one of those irreplaceable people.

Steve, may you enjoy many, many years of health and happiness to come, and I know I speak for many when I say I look forward to seeing you back again, doing what you love, very soon.

*I think it's amazing that most users here come together, and for pages and pages, offer best wishes to the man who has given us all so much of himself.

The stock is not going to dive so I can't figure out why all the talk about it. Either way who cares if it does I have a feeling unlike the old Apple, Steve has molded a lot of people over the year to be just like he is when it comes to Apple products and Apple will continue to bring out stuff that at least I know I will want to have.

He will be fine, he has the money to get the best medical care the world has.

Doesn't sound good.

Hopefully, it's just a blimp.

Either way, I really appreciate everything you've done Steve. Without you, I wouldn't have the technology which has made a daily difference in my life for 25+ years.

Why the positive votes on this story ?

Surely you must realise that there are a group of Apple haters who have too much time on their hands, and who come here every day with the sole intention of voting negative to every Apple related story?

Today is a rare chance for them to vote positive!
