Italian site setteB.IT reports [Google translation] that Apple CEO Steve Jobs is expected to appear at tomorrow's media event widely expected to see the introduction of the next-generation iPad.
Yes, all odds are against us, yet we have reassuring information.

We want to tip the balance and we believe that the new iPad will debut in the hands of Steve Jobs.
The source and its legitimacy are unknown, and we have a hard time believing that Jobs will distract from the focus on the iPad and other potential announcements by stepping out of his indefinite medical leave of absence to be on hand.

Given the recent photos of Jobs, I'd say he would likely do more harm to Apple's image by being present than by skipping it and letting Tim Cook handle the launch.

I think the validity of those pictures especially the video are still in question.

As much as I would like him to be there, I don't think he will. While he is on medical leave, I really think he wants people to know that other Apple executives can run the company without him.

I hope he isn't there. Steve needs to worry about his health.

I'm sure the other execs will be able to run the show without Steve. They have before and I'm sure they'll be able to again

Perhaps we will see an iPad FaceTime call from Tim Cook to Steve Jobs.

As much as I would like him to be there, I don't think he will. While he is on medical leave, I really think he wants people to know that other Apple executives can run the company without him.
I agree with both of these statements. I'm content to see Tim Cook running the show, but a quick FaceTime chat with the boss would be nice as well.

Do we have a confirmation that Tim is handling business tomorrow? As long as it isn't Shiller. That man urks me.

That either means this iPad is insanely great, or a total flop that needs glossed over by news of the return of Steve.

We'll see soon.

Can't believe this rumor didn't surface earlier. I don't think Jobs will be there. His appearance would overshadow the product, take away from millions in free publicity and open up all the same questions about his illness. This is Apple folks, the product is the star.

This would only make sense if he looks healthy. If he shows up looking skinny, it's only going to make speculation worse and overshadow the product as rdowns suggested. I don't think him showing up healthy will have a negative effect, however.

Ask Apple
The more Steve Jobs is seen, the more he becomes the story and not the iPad 1.5.

If he comes and appears as bad as media images imply, the headline will be "Sickly Jobs appears at Apple Event to Introduce Something".

The spotlight must be on product.

Maybe his appearance will be a facetime call. Cook runs the show, ends it with facetime call.....then Steve pops up on the screen, reclining on his sofa, for the first iPad facetime call in public. :D

I certainly hope he isn't there. I know it would be his choice, but its best if he relaxes away from the public and focuses on his health.
