Wouldn't it be cool if he ran on stage, looking all healthy and revitalized, and said, "...two words bitches....stem cells...now check out my new iPad...!"

I think what people are trying to get at now is, is his medical leave now over?

Highly doubt it; he's only been gone for a few weeks.

I'll be shocked if we see Steve at the event tomorrow. Didn't rumors fly that he'd make an appearance during his last medical leave, rumors only proven to be false?

I've the same feeling with this as I had with the meeting with Obama.. I just hope it's the positive scenario and not the negative scenario I've on my mind.

Assuming his health is taking him down and out, doing the show would make for a great last one (well, one of these will be his last): the triumph that this groundbreaking product (some 30 years in the making) is still riding high a year after its introduction. He has led not one (Apple II), not two (Macintosh), not three (iPhone), but four disruptive technologies (iPad) to market. Making it past the first year and still growing strong is a big deal.

That said, as others note: his presence, in any form less than full-on Steve Jobs the Showman mode, will sour the event. "Beloved old man suffering a terminal disease" overshadows "way cool disruptive tech part 2". He'll have to let go and let his company take the spotlight, lest he make Apple = Steve Jobs; the connection must be severed with grace. (Doesn't mean he has to leave, he just has to let another fill his shoes.)

I swear if apple regularly checks Macrumors for ideas they are in good hands you guys are pretty

i really hope that he comes to the keynote, but will still be surprised if he does. This feels like a wishful thinking rumour, but I would be really happy to be proven wrong.

unless he's frail, like most outlets are claiming. It will actually bring confidence levels down if people see him in an ailing state. Not good for stockholders really. If he's not looking/feeling good, they should not allow him to come on stage. Perception is everything with Apple.
Would you please provide links to these outlets who are claiming Jobs is frail?

Most outlets were very willing to publish an image of him dining with Obama at John Doerr's house about a week ago and none of them pointed out any frailness at the time.

Does anyone know if he attended the Academy Awards?

I doubt he attended for several reasons. But if I heard right (I was multitasking with some beer at the time) the guy who won something or other (like I said, I wasn't giving the awards my undivided attention) for Toy Story 3 included Steve in his list of those who he wanted to thank. If Steve had been in attendance, I might have expected the camera to pan to him for a couple of seconds.

It would be freakin' awesome if he gave the keynote but I don't think this will be the case. I do believe that the Facetime chat with Tim Cook would be the most realistic option since the iPad 2 is rumored to have a camera for Facetime and what a great way to demo it live!

Given the recent photos of Jobs, I'd say he would likely do more harm to Apple's image by being present than by skipping it and letting Tim Cook handle the launch.

Not really. His worshippers need him, and have adopted his narcissim. They care only about themselves. Steves smart. He knows how he will drive more sales than anyone else on board at Apple. For true up to date stock info check back when his replacement is announced.

For those long term Apple shareholders like myself, the timing will be everything. On one hand I think Apple will be as good or better without Jobs. On the other Apple buyers are fickle. Who knows? At least we could bail out now and do spectacular, or watch it extra close & bail as the price begins to decline, before the bottom drops out. Either way we've got latitude only those that have been in for a decade or so do.

If they do a FT chat, it will be with Jobs and Schiller.

I really hope this is true!

Same here; a buddy of mine said this is impossible considering his pancreatic cancer - I would love to prove him wrong ;) After all, back in the late 60s Paul was "dead", too... ;)

If he (Jobs) is going to make an appearance, they should let whomever run the presentation and when it comes time to debut the new iPad, they should make a comment like "can we get someone to bring it out here?" and let Jobs bring it out...

The crowd would go absolutely nuts and it wouldn't be labor intensive for Jobs.

What about SJ as the "one more thing" alongside Woz? ;)

The crowd is journalists and would probably be eerily silent.

I think it comes down to the reason for his absence. If the rumors are true that it is because of his body rejecting his liver, Much of it will depend on the new drugs they have him on. If he is immuno supressed, he might not want to be that close to so many people.

I hope he makes an appearance, getting out and having a bit of fun might be the best thing for him.
