With the death of Steve Jobs, a number of observers have addressed concerns over the future of Apple by noting that the company's roadmap is almost certainly already set for the next several years, and Jobs would obviously have played a key role in setting those plans in motion.

And while it should not come as a surprise, Jobs is said to have been playing a key role directing development of not only the iPhone 4S set to debut next week, but also the next-generation iPhone. Word of Jobs' involvement comes from Masayoshi Son, president of Japanese carrier Softbank, who noted to Reuters that "even after [Jobs'] death the work that he spearheaded will come out to the world".

RIP Steve :( The world will not be the same without you. It feels like I've lost someone in my family. I'm seriously buying a iPhone 4S (4 Steve).

Def looking forward to seeing what future Apple products will bring! Hopefully the design and artistic aspect will not be lost.

super lame that this story is on here right now. At least take the darn day to honour Steve Jobs and leave the original post as the feature.

No real insight here. Apple is definitely fine for ~2 years, thereafter we see if apple can survive without him....

Couldn't agree more, I'll also be buying the 4S out of respect for what Steve has done for Apple products. If, in fact, he did have a hand in IP5 development, you better start pre-orders now because that will be a true collectors item. RIP my friend.

A few generations at least

I think there's a whiteboard, or Minority Report style heads up display, somewhere at Apple HQ that lays out the next 4 or 5 years worth of hardware.
Jobs was there.

He'll be missed in the details though, like these ugly GUIs that have crept into iCal and Find My Friends. Apple benefitted tremendously from having a top notch negotiator at the helm to craft deals with content providers and the like, I don't know if an army of Tim Cooks could be as persuasive.

Apple is REALLY going to suck now. Tim Cook walks and talks like every other high-tech CEO. We're screwed...

So what's the implication here? Once the product development cycle for which Jobs was involved has passed, Apple is going to start producing crap? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Apple the company it is today because Jobs hired the best and groomed them to create stunning consumer products?

Apple had a special place in Steve's heart and that cannot be replicated. We're left with tools with MBAs like Tim Cook who get into unnecessary and distracting pissing matches with major suppliers. They will mortgage Apple's long term brand for a short term uptick in their bonus in a heartbeat.

Well this is awesome to hear. I gotta say since last night's news I've been wondering what some future Apple products would be like now that Steve is gone... and I guess I sort of already knew that Jobs' influence would be around for years to come, but this is still relieving news :)

In fairness to Cook/Forstall/Schiller...they clearly knew Jobs was about to die at any moment when they announced the 4S.

With visionaries like Steve, they are not only looking into the future for next year, or the year after that, they are seeing where we are heading during the next decade and the one after that. He will be missed that is for sure, his vision will live on within Apple and the friends and associates he worked with.

Thank you Steve for changing the way we think and live.

No need to complain about this headline. It's exactly what Steve would have wanted.

It's a good thing to see.

I can visualize him right now.

"One More Thing ! "

Tim Cook is great... here is a CEO at Apple for a reason... if you can do it better, DO IT!!! Otherwise stop whining...

I'm sure his vision and influence will live on within Apple for years. From what I know from friends there, he built a culture that will carry on for a long time.

Not sure if we'll ever see someone as visionary as SJ in our lifetime again. Very sad.

I think steve sacrificed some of his health Making Sure apple would travel the right path in the Future

I for one am very Optimistic
