Apple and Microsoft are well insulated because they have a crapload of patents. Google does not.

And Google just acquired Motorola, giving them thousands upon thousands of patents. Motorola invented the mobile phone, so those are pretty valuable patents Google's going to have.

Again. Apple and Microsoft are well insulated because they have a crapload of patents. Google does not.

My work blocks the links you posted but Fujifilm is not suing Google directly, it's suing Motorola.

As for Microsoft suing, they are not suing Google directly but are suing manufacturers using Android.

The three android devises I used pissed me the hell off,
Why to make fake apps and other junk in the app market. Its way to open.
they phones have all bad batt life. less then 6 hours. (WTF)

Im fine with a 24 hour batt why because I plug my phone in every night. so I know its going to be around the time to charge it any ways

Androids have to much ui going on, they need to keep it basic and simple

The only thing I like about android was the shutdown buttion, and it prompts "restart, airplane, off"

Android is still a mess and lots of stuff is hidden from normal sight and its anoying to dig to turn stuff off.

What phone did you use that lasted 6 hours?!?

I owned countless crappy phones and NONE lasted under 6 hours unless I was playing games on it for those 6 hours.

And Google just acquired Motorola, giving them thousands upon thousands of patents. Motorola invented the mobile phone, so those are pretty valuable patents Google's going to have.

Except they're actually not that valuable at all.

The majority of the patents Google acquired from Motorola are “standard-essential” patents (SEPs). While it may sound good to own the patents that standards are built off of, holders of SEPs are required by international standard-setting bodies to license it on “fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory” (FRAND) terms.

Google has already tried to shut down or demand outrageous licensing fees from their competitors only to have courts tell them that they can't do that. Apple, Microsoft, and everyone else will have to pay what amounts to chump change for the patents Google holds while Google will have to pay them far more in return.

At this stage in the game, software patents are far more valuable than the original hardware ones.

The companies who claim that Google's Android infringes on their intellectual property are too diverse to believe in a conspiracy. And I repeat myself: apart from reactive or proactive countersuits from Android companies, Apple doesn't face much of a problem with big-company lawsuits..

I had to face palm this entire thread. Please people Android is superior is some aspects and android is superior in other aspects! Both phones are great! I use the 4s as my daily phone. ive used android for two years prior to the 4s and I honestly use ios because it looks better. Thats it! I love how the messages app, email app and other apps look. My GF has a S3 and it lags less than my 4s. I tell everybody I come in contact with....don't judge an operating system by old software and hardware. i have co-workers that hate ios because they say its laggy but they have a 3gs. Same with android...people hate on it but have a evo 4g.

Ios users here! Admit, android has superior core apps...ie gmail, maps, google voice and youtube. Android multitasks! With android I can have my Email ring only, have my messages vibrate and ring and have my calls vibrate only. I could be wrong but I cant do that with IOS.

IOS is much much easier to use yet harder to use if that makes any sense. IOS just works and apples apps are superior.

BOTH OS'S are fragmented! Just go out and enjoy the phone you like. I made alot of arguments for android yet I carry a 4S. Oh.. and I could argue that Nexus devices are the best because the Nexus S got ICS & JB! With all the features. Cant say the same for the Iphone 4 with iOS 5 and 6.

Design and support is just a couple of reasons i come back to the iPhone every year. The iPhone design is superior in build quality not to mention the software is made for their own hardware, unlike android where one software has to run on 100 devices all made by different manufactures. Plus apples customer support is great.

You are simply repeating what you've been programmed to believe.

Anyone that _knows_ how the Android OS is built, understands that the word "fragmentation" has been turned into a single buzzword by the haters & iOS camp, to be used as an attack on Android.
Why should I care how it's built? If I have to understand how the software's built in order to "see" the advantage of the phone, then there's no practical or useful advantage.

I've certainly never heard a Mac fan tell me that the Mac is better because it's programmed in Objective-C.

"Do rid"? That's a cute auto correct....what century is it from?

I laugh at post like this. The guy with the iPhone has a friend that got a nexus and this and that blah blah. Meanwhile the people using the gnex to post experiences and opinions are wrong....

Lol, it was autocorrect, but as usual, Droitard chooses to react on mis-spell than on core idea of post...

You can laugh as much as you wish, but your galaxy nexus is same crap as all androids - yes, friend bought that crap for father as many Droitards like you sworn that nexus is different from all those crapy android phones.. unfortunately, it has still all those problems as any other android - fragmented GUI, short battery life, need to hack it using XDA, etc - still same pain in the ass... I am not writing this to tell YOU that your nexus in inferior to iPhone (but truly it is), but to warn anyone who reads this forum and thinks about buying nexus just because your fandroid post.

Androids have to much ui going on, they need to keep it basic and simple

This is the single-most reason of why iPhone continues to lead the pack, at least according to my perception. It certainly is a challenge though, to keep up with the fast pace of the ever-changing technology and keep things simple - expecting some great news with the iPhone 5 - competition between smartphones has simply become so interesting lately!

I just hope that Apple is quietly preparing for the next big blow to Android.

And Google just acquired Motorola, giving them thousands upon thousands of patents. Motorola invented the mobile phone, so those are pretty valuable patents Google's going to have.

Most of them FRAND patents, no way they can use them in battle:D

Anyone that _knows_ how the Android OS is built, understands that the word "fragmentation" has been turned into a single buzzword by the haters & iOS camp, to be used as an attack on Android.

When in reality, it's each version of Android as it's been on a continuing & rapid development path.

I know how Android IS built. And the emphasis on IS is relevant. Its an evolving platform, a work in progress. And its that "work in progress" part of Android that creates the very real market fragmentation you seem so intent on denying.

But what you, and so many other Android defenders like you, tend to ignore is that the AVERAGE consumer doesn't want a "work in progress." They want a FINISHED product.

Look, we both know that with even the first version of Excel released almost 20 years ago we can balance our checkbooks, right? And yet Intuit has launched a freaking empire on this stupid little app called Quicken that does it for you. It holds your hand through something as simple as keeping track of your bank balance. You don't NEED Quicken to do that. You can do it with Excel. But Excel is a construction kit, with an overwhelming array of features and widgets and sure I can customize the heck out of it if I want. But see...Quicken just does it all for me. With polish and finesse and no fuss.

This is the difference in these arguments. Android devotee's want Excel. iPhone users, in the majority, want Quicken.

Android IS and always WILL BE a work in progress. Its the Linux of the smartphone world. But by its very nature, its very intent, it will never, ever be a finished product that attracts the masses. It is fragmented BY DESIGN. iOS is a Product BY DESIGN. The iPhone's appeal is that it IS a finished product, at least for any particular release, with OS and hardware built as a matched set in unison. Android is always going to be a "May or may not work with your handset/carrier choice" kind of deal.

Denying Android's fragmentation is just pure psychological denial and nothing more.

I had to face palm this entire thread. Please people Android is superior is some aspects and android is superior in other aspects! Both phones are great!

I see what you tried to do there. Your Jedi mind-tricks are useless here.
