GO FOR THE BOLD a much better prduct than the iphone
Take away the GUI of the iphone and its not impressive at all.

MMS, copy and paste, decent e-mail service, limited Bluetooth, copy and paste, office suite.....things they should concentrate on and not streetview

Agreed, and this is why the iPhone will NEVER be a smartphone IMHO. It's a great phone with that UI, but after that there's nothing left but the iPod and Mobile Me features (only if you have MM of course). After that there is nothing spectacular about the phone at all.... NOTHING.

Even the App Store is overrated, with people buying the same apps that everyone else buys and only a few that add any real value to the device.

All in all, it's just a phone, and can only be paired with a great service provider at that point, which the iPhone lacks somewhat.

Bold & Mac OS

When I had the Curve the integration with my Mac was HORRENDOUS and that was also one of the reasons that I switched to the iPhone. If I got the Bold would I still have to use that crappy Pocket Sync software that barely works? I heard RIM was working on a Mac desktop client but don't know what the latest news is. Anybody have any info on this?

I switched from VZW to ATT for the iPhone and i still get the offer to come back and get the Storm at a discount. I know Verizon's service is superior so the Storm does peak my curiosity. BUT I found out today I am being issued the Bold but not until mid-December. So I'm going to have a BB Bold for work so why get one for personal use?

I am curious about that Storm AKA iPhone Killer. I wonder how it will fair. But at heart I am an Apple nut. I just like their stuff. Used an Apple since 1980. I like the iPhone a lot but if I needed it for business I am unsure if it would stack up to the BB.

Well my I phone started bugging out again yesterday, the proximity sensor stopped working so I called Att and asked if I could get another phone at new contract price because I was tired of returning phones to Apple. After two hours, the lady says yes. I found one store where I lived that had 2 Bolds left. I got it late last night. All I can say is I am not looking back, what a great phone. Until Apple can design a phone like the 2G, I'm not buying an Iphone again.:D

can you read? 2 out of 3 dimensions are smaller than the iphone and one is a half millimeter larger, thats hardly a brick pal

you need to apply apple reality distortion field logic to that. An apple product needs to 5 times larger for the size to be about the same as a competitors.

using iphone for over a year

iphone pros

ipod ( genius playlists )
apps
entertainment
MS Exchange support
ok web experience for size (i don't visit a lot of flash sites)
predictive text is good once you trust it
decent sync and backup
touchscreen with pinch and swipe

Iphone cons

ATT (you can argue jailbreaking but that's a pain)
lack of good VOIP atm
no flash support
wide email costs .99 it's a buck i know but should be part of their email.
COPY PASTE (sigh)

Bold Pros

Supports more media formats
keyboard if you need one :)
supports non DRM mp3 ringtones (miss this from my treo 650)
Works with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
Works with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Novell® GroupWise®
With WordToGo and SlideshowToGo, you can work on Microsoft® Word and Microsoft® PowerPoint® slides while you’re on the go. Copy and paste, adjust font formatting and more.
Bold cons

physically smaller screen
app store?
hip holster ;)
trackball

my decision was simply device reduction and the choice of nicer UI. said bye bye to treo 650 and 5th gen ipod and bought iphone.

GO FOR THE BOLD a much better prduct than the iphone
Take away the GUI of the iphone and its not impressive at all.

I made the mistake of not waiting for the Bold to be launched over here and took the iPhone and I have regretted it ever since I am now stuck for 18 months with a product that has lots of updates to come out for it in those 18 months but not what the consumer wants just what apple want to give us.

MMS, copy and paste, decent e-mail service, limited Bluetooth, copy and paste, office suite.....things they should concentrate on and not streetview

no contract on the bold is $599 (upgrade cost only saves u $200). so buy the bold at retail cost, sell the iphone for a couple hundred, and ur set.

bold is a really nice phone, looks great but the screen it too small. the iphone 3g does everything for me. I get emails through my companies exchange server and its works great for me. I use it everyday when I'm at the gym or on the train and even late night if i want to watch shows, i just burn it on to my iphone and watch them. if you want to do multiple things its great to have. Yeah the blackberry can do those things but the iphone does it better except maybe email

Most people that are changing over to the bold will regret it later. The iPhone will always be the s***!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the Bold in person yesterday and was quite impressed with the display. Its 2.8" in size, so I would hardly call it "too small" or "tiny". If you haven't seen the screen in person, you should, its really sharp and vibrant, a real "head turner".

The phone felt nice in my hands and the keyboard was really easy to use, I like it more than the Curve I had. The UI is improved and looks more modern and is really fast now (twice the processor speed on the Bold than on previous BB's, so it should be quick).

The speaker on the Bold is leaps and bounds better than the iPhones, its much louder and clear and the same time (one of my iPhone complaints, the speaker volume is too low and I can't use it well while I drive).

Blackberry's are very functional and even though they look confusing, it shouldn't take long to get used to them.

My Pro's and Con's list:

iPhone

Pros:
Large Touchscreen Display
Mulitouch
Full HTML browser (that's easy to use)
Easy integration with Mac's
iPod functionality (the best part in my opinion, other phones don't compare when it comes to multimedia stuff)
App Store
iTunes Store

Cons:
Worthless speaker
Missing certain common features like MMS
Locked down Bluetooth (no A2DP or bluetooth tethering/sharing)
Doesn't do things found on other smart phones, like document editing

Bold

Pros:
Physical Keyboard
Expandable memory
removable battery
Loud speaker
more email functionality than iPhone (like being able to save attachments)
nice PDA app suite included (password keeper, proper to do list, document editing, etc.)

Cons:
worthless web broswer
no app store (coming soon according to RIM)
no itunes/music store
hard to integrate with Mac's (again, RIM is claiming a solution is coming soon)
Forget about gaming, this is NOT the phone for it
Expensive (yes, its much more expensive than the iPhone)

If multimedia is not important, but emailing and typing a lot is, the Bold is a nice choice. This is the choice I am trying to make, whether or not I need a more multimedia based device or a more business oriented device (I think the iPhone will win, I don't want to spend $600 on a phone again, lol).

Had One

I had a Blackberry for 4 years... Then I got the iPhone 3G. I will never go back to the Blackberry - even when they introduce their Blackberry Thunder (touchscreen / 3G).

The iPhone has many more capabilities than the Blackberry. In addition, it is expandable a lot more.

People can argue all day which is better. The real answer is IT AIN'T THAT SIMPLE! Each has pros and cons which others have done a pretty good job of listing here. My advise is don't get caught up in the oft-used generalizations that phrases people throw around about these phones, such as "the Blackberry is best at email" or "the iPhone is just a toy", etc. etc. Look at the details of what these phones do and don't do, and figure out what you need.

Recognize that a lot of things the iPhone doesn't do (like editing Word docs) are less useful for most people than claimed. For example, I previously had a Motorola Q (WinMO) and I put DocsToGo on it so I could edit Office docs. I actually used the software maybe twice, and just barely. Editing Office docs on a phone is just silly.

The Blackberry will let you do more things with email than the iPhone, and does Push a little better, but the iPhone has great email, and it's easier to use.

People who rapidly discount the UI of the iPhone as just fluff are missing the point. The UI is how you use the phone. It's what you see every day. The elegance and simplicity of the iPhone UI is a big part of the user experience. If you enjoy using the phone then it will be a more efficient tool for you. The Blackberry has many more options in its menus than the iPhone but they are buried in many menus and it takes much longer to find a function. Remember, most people's needs for email, calendar and contacts on the road are more basic than what they need to do in the office. For those people the iPhone shines.

Ultimately, they are just phones. A tool to help you do certain things. If the iPhone no longer suits your needs and the Bold does, then get the Bold if finances will allow.

off topic, i had a customer that came in to return the iphone cause it was just too confusing to answer!! hahaha, he said "that slide to answer is too difficult"

seriously?!?!? u just... slide your finger....?

When I see a 55 year old guy using it and having to look over the brim of his glasses...it isnt cool anymore. Oh and no offense to seniors.

55 is a senior now? That means once you're 19 you're washed up. Hope you have a few years left - those kids are coming up behind you.:D

i would have to agree that the iphone is hardly a head turner anymore.

if i had to do it all over again i would probably have gotten a BB instead. the iphone is just so insanely buggy for a phone and messes up even more often than my old computer running windows xp. its slow, laggy, and backups still take forever despite upgrading to 2.1.

even jailbroken with backgrounder doesn't solve multi-tasking issues at all. i tried running simplify to stream music from my computer and then running the facebook app at the same time. basically simplify just chooses to close when i start loading photos on facebook because i assume the iphones processor/memory is just pathetic and can't handle the load.

i would say the iphone is more about presentation than functionality. yah sure it has a slick UI but honestly thats really about the only benefit you get on it. most of the apps in the app store are completely useless and are just ways for crappy developers to make a quick buck with crappy apps. hardware wise i don't know how many times i've needed flash on the iphones garbage camera during the past few months i've had one. wish i had realized that before getting one.

3g speed is nice where i am. too bad i can barely use it or else the phone just dies due to crappy battery life.

all in all i'm alright with an iphone but if i ever decide to bother to switch i would do it in a heart beat.
I'm sure you haven't used the
"Blackberry Brick" before.

Really,

iPhone 115.5mm x 62.1mm x 12.3mm
Bold 114.3mm x 60mm x 12.7mm

Bold is a garbage phone, look at the size of that thing.

Read the whole thread, it will enlighten you.

I still love my iPhone, but not as much as I used to. I'm sick of the crashing, long sync/backup time, no email/text typing in landscape, and crappy AT&T reception.
I hope that Apple wows me with their next firmware update.

The iPhone is still a head turner where I live.

Well in most places, it isn't. Not anymore. Remember when the RAZR was a headturning "revolutionary" device? Everything has it's cycles and as far as being a revolutionary stylish device, the iPhone is on the downturn.

Same 3G network...fool

Apparently "Dennis" could not get the joke, hence the reason for the smiley face with a wink.

There is a fool here... but you've directed your energy in the wrong direction.
