the X I have now is the longest I've kept any phone. Frankly, it still performs way past my expectations and I have zero reason to really want to get rid of it other than the camera upgrade.

Same here. In my Android days (2008-2014), I used to swap phones every 6 months. I switched to the iPhone when the 6 was released, kept it for around a year and a half and traded it in for a 6s Plus, which I sold when I got the X on release day. As much as I envy the cameras and the battery life of my wife's 11 Pro, I can't justify spending the money this year, when I really want next year's rumored device.

And the battery

I'm guessing that is a benefit for some, but honestly, I just came off a two week vacation and my X lasted from usually 7am until 10pm each day. That's with pretty heavy camera usage and hit or miss wifi etc. S

Still a plus though if it's even better.

given the amount of folks on reddit testing their 11 pro vs qualcomm x, i'll hold onto my X til apple goes back to qualcomm next year.

The 11Pro is better than the Qualcomm X. I can confirm that based on my experience in NYC (which is a great place to test these things). The 11 Pro has a newer Intel modem, which performs much better than their previous versions.

Upgrading from an X? Bah!
My main iPhone is a 6 Plus running a much older version of iOS and I recently got an iPhone 7 with the most recent version of iOS 13 on it.
Guess what iPhone I like better?
The 6 Plus
Guess what version of iOS I like better?
The four year old one.
Sure the 7 is a lot faster, but that doesn't make up for the blurrier screen and unpleasant and new buggy OS and loss of my most important apps (that don't run on iOS 13 or are gone).

I'm not convinced that "upgrading" an iPhone nowadays is real upgrade. After this disaster experience, I'll be using my old 6 Plus on the old OS for as long as possible cuz the new stuff is worse than the old stuff (I think)

I'm sticking with my iPhone XS Max until the 2020 Flagship iPhone came out due to no worth upgrade from my iPhone XS Max to iPhone 11 Pro Max.

  • iPhone XR/XS/XS Max are false worth upgrade from iPhone 8/8 Plus/X
  • iPhone 11/11 Pro/11 Pro Max are false worth upgrade from iPhone 8/8 Plus/X
  • iPhone 11/11 Pro/11 Pro Max are false worth upgrade from iPhone XR/XS/XS Max
  • iPhones 2020 are true worth upgrade from iPhone 8/8 Plus/X
I received no worth upgrade for my iPhone XS Max because I had iPhone X.

see the problem is, for every one person saying the 11 pro is better than qualcomm x, there is someone else saying the opposite. so for me the jury still out til someone conducts an official testing. i had the xr last year and boy was it terrible in these mid town offices and along the 456 line on the east.

i always find my qcomm x can squeeze out that little bit of signal strength when reception is really bad, when i had the intel modem i missed so many important text and emails. not to mention there are tons of people complaining about 11 pro dropping lte on reddit and apple forum.

I'm happy with my launch-day iPhone X, I'll keep it as long as it lasts me.

Bigger battery, better cameras, more brightness, deeper waterproof (as if you were scuba diving with your phone) are mostly gimmicks Apple is throwing at out to motivate you to upgrade from a phone which is already very good for most uses.

I tried to keep my original X for a 3rd year but the battery had degraded to 85% max capacity and would not last longer than 6 hours at a time. It was not going to hold up as a daily driver for a 3rd year. And I usually upgrade at 2 years anyway.

So I traded in my X toward the 11 Pro Max while I could get the $400 trade in value for it. Going from the X to the 11 Pro Max got me a bigger screen/device, better battery, much faster system, improved cameras, much better Face ID, faster downloads. Yes 3D Touch is no more, but Apple crippled 3D Touch functionality on the X anyway with iOS 13. Haptic Touch works about 85%-90% similarly IMO.

I really deliberated about trying to make the X work for a 3rd year and waiting for the 2020 iPhone. But I did not feel that my X would have held up. And the way I see it, if the 11 Pro is the final iteration of the design that was started with the X, then I feel like it is certainly polished. And who knows what to expect from the 2020 iPhone in terms of design/features with all the rumors.

I also planned to hold on to my X for another year at least. The battery was around 83% and I was having some issues with the camera. So, I took the trade in offer and bought the 11 Pro Max. No regrets as of now. Camera is awesome, battery is also . And I don't miss the smaller screen.

Upgraded to Pro Max from iPhone 7. If I had X, I probably wouldnt. Pro Max is a great phone, but Intel modem is terrible, and I dont see logic in a "pro" camera bundled with USB 2.0 transfering speed for transfering videos from a phone to a computer.

Keeping my X another year. The battery, which was replaced in December, is still at 100% plus between CarPlay and a Smart Battery case battery isn't an issue. It's still really fast and when I compared it to my niece's 11 I just didn't see any differences in normal "usage" (i.e switching apps, quick actions, etc). I also refuse to give up 3D Touch just yet (cursor text editing is worth it alone and can't be reproduced with a long press).

Regarding the camera, the X still stakes fantastic pictures and I just don't see that big of a difference when I compared in normal lighting. Sure lower light there's a big difference but I don't take too many pictures then anyway. So I'll hold on and hope the 2020 model has a significant rework in it's design.

Mine is on par with the Qualcomm chip but faster speeds. I have yet to lose a signal in areas where the X performed just as well with signal strength. I’m surprised.

Battery life is also insanely better. 12 hours yesterday with 56% left when plugging in for the night. Much better than my X.

yeah the battery is the main reason im looking to get the 11 pro, my main x is on 91% and it last me through the days but barely.

signal reception aside, the one thing im hoping to find reviews or opinions on is where qcom x barely gets any reception, would the 11 or 11 pro be able to pick up there as well or is it the same story as last years xr.

Just letting you know that the reception (Verizon Wireless) on my 11 is better than it was on my X. Once a week I am in a low reception area, and on my X I was unable to get a data signal most times, as it would go down to 1x. With the 11 I am able to connect at slower LTE speeds in the same area.

This is unrelated kind of but maybe it'll put things in perspective.

I traveled to a third world country a month ago and everyone has cell phones in poor places now! Though, everyone was using very old Android phones. I'm talking like Samsung S3-4, etc. ANY Apple phone was a luxury--it was like having a Bentley or something, but that didn't stop people from using their phones since it's all they had.

It really opened my eyes as far as how 1st world problemy we have it in terms of technology. Like... I get the enthusiast techie part of it, that's what I enjoy. But sometimes we get stuck too deep into the "oh my 2 year old phone is crap now, geez" because it loads .5 seconds slower than the newest one or the picture is just slightly crisper.

An iPhone X is an EXCELLENT phone. The A11 chip is a beast, even in 2019/2020. Flagship Android phones are JUST starting to match or catch up to the A11 performance. Just a food for thought.

Sounds like you really want to the Pro I say go for it. There will always be something bigger and better next year and your X will be worth less next year if you trade it in or sell it. You said yourself you can get a good deal now since you're switching carriers so it sounds like a good time to pull the trigger.
The X will be worth less but the pro will have lost you a lot more in $ over a year.

I’m going from an iPhone X 256gb to a iPhone 11 pro 64GB due to the fact I know I’ll want the 2020 model.

I probably wouldn’t bother until next year if notfor the fact the X cameras are utter garbage and I have a lot of family stuff ahead that I’ll want to record and take pics of.

I nearly switched to The pixel 4 for year but the 4K video sucks.

I’ll miss the bigger memory but can’t justify the higher cost for just a year.

Following up on my previous post.

Bought an 11 Pro last night when the wife decided she wanted to replace her 7. Traded her 7, bough an 11 Pro, and gave her my X. Only had the 11Pro for a few hours now, but love it. Went with the green and ordered a UAG Green\Camo case for it. Been playing with the camera and so far I can say that alone seems worth the upgrade.

Now to wait until next year and see what 2020 actually brings!

I used to upgrade every year since the very beginning. The easy part being I have the newest phone and my wife gets my old one. That cycle ended when I bought the X. I skipped the XS and I am also skipping the 11 pro.

Normally, I would upgrade to give my wife my X. But when I bought the X, I sold the 7 because the X was the one where the price skyjaked especially here in Canada. But next upgrade needs to be different because our daughter is 12 yo and asking for her mother's old phone (a 6) haha. I am still undecided.

I say stick to it. I’m sure they will redesign the phone next year. That’s what I am doing.

Keep in mind the sizes of the 12 Pro & Pro Max are rumoured to change next year (Pro to shrink 🤬, Pro Max to get bigger), so they may not appeal to you.

Then again, you can wait it out with the X until then, & either upgrade to the 12 Pro if it suits or pick up the 11 Pro at cheaper prices.
^I’m doing this.

I’ve just upgraded from a 7 to a brand new X. Full Apple warranty , Unlocked, 100% battery and only £450 from network provider O2 here in UK ( not eBay ) . I don’t feel ready to take the 11 switch because I feel we are still inbetween the major improvements (ie camera design) besides I hate losing $ in residual value. I had a look in my local Apple store at the 11 and preferred the pro simply because I’m a bit of purist and love the stainless designs , especially untouched silver/white. Size is just right for me too. So if I was to upgrade I’d go for this but £1200 for the more modern equivalent to my £450 256gb X isn’t worth paying. I know the X is an old phone to some here and apparently crap camera !? But it was the best thing since sliced only 2 years ago . In 2 years time the pro will get the same treatment and only cost £500 new and so it carries on. I’ll be jumping in at that point no doubt :) .£450 for a brand new X I think is a steal and a stainless one at that ! ;) .

They want to make the Pro Max even bigger?? Might as well make it an iPad Mini 6 with phone capabilities.
