Doing horribly? iPad is by far the top grossing tablet in the world. Only reason sales are down is because the upgrade cycle is much longer than iPhone. Also a ton of iPad sales are being canibalzied by iPhone 6+. Which is perfectly fine since the 6+ has a much higher profit margin and sale price.

There are many factors for the decline of the iPad, so I disagree that that the "only reason" sales are down is upgrade cycle. This article outlines many factors for decline, including the limiting 16gb storage: http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/26/ipad-decline/

Regardless people still need to backup their photo/video collection to a PC/Mac and then the cloud. If not you risk losing thousands of photos if you lose your phone or your phone crashes or break your phone. So if you have to backup your photo's anyway whats the big deal of removing photo's from your phone every 3 months and putting it in the cloud?

There is no reason to leave tens of thousands of photo's on a phone since you need to back them up anyway.

You forget that people also install games which can be easily 1gb each, plus Apple's own apps like iMovie, iPhoto, Pages, etc are each 200-800mb or so. And having offline music stored via Spotify/Apple music, and other things, you may end up with only 1-3gb free, so even if you download/upload your photos/videos to the cloud periodically, you are at constant risk of not having space for photos/videos.

Hilarious. Only 3 Android phones start at 32Gb THIS YEAR. So was Android squeezing profits last year? And the only reason Samsung is offering 32GB is because they were getting destroyed and were desperate. Just because Samsung does a desperation move does not mean Apple has too.

This is like Kia offering 0% Financing and expecting BMW to do the same.

Wrong, we've been seen manufacturers do 32gb well before this year, Amazon had 32gb products last year, 2014, Microsoft had Surface RT with 32gb since 2012! Where is Apple, the market leader, innovator etc etc? iPhone and ipad are still stuck at 16gb, completely laughable more so with iPad where you should be able to store more retina magazines/comics/movies etc.

There is no excuse sorry, only maximizing a bit more profits for investors and making it clear that even if the rest of the industry is recognizing and doing 32gb base for $2-3 because it's desirable for user experience, Apple, the king/innovator of user experience won't do it due to profits.

False. The entire tablet market is down, not just ipad. That points to longer upgrade cycles and people switching to phablets.

If they are concerned they can get 50GB of cloud for 99 cents.

And how many people load 1GB games on their phones? Most of those people buy 64/128GB models. Bottom line is 16GB fits many people's usage including mine.

And in the scenarios you bring up even a 32GB phone would not be enough.

Amazon fire phone is such a non-player I don't even consider it. Hell they are selling $50 tablets for goodness sakes! Who cares about them. I'm talking about the top end Android makers. They all were at 16GB also until this year. So don't act like it was such a crime for Apple to stay at 16GB since Android just made the switch a few months ago.

I'm not talking about hybrid laptops (Surface). They had no choice since the Surface OS took up almost 10GB by itself.

Laughable that Apple is the market leader? Look at the scoreboard. Apple has 92% of mobile profits, they are doing something right.

There is no excuse sorry, only maximizing a bit more profits for investors and making it clear that even if the rest of the industry is recognizing and doing 32gb base for $2-3 because it's desirable for user experience, Apple, the king/innovator of user experience won't do it due to profits.

Its not about the additional $2 of cost from going from 16GB to 32GB.
Its about the lost of $100 of revenue from people opting for the 32GB instead of the 64GB.

Bottom line is to get the best you need to pay a little extra. Thats true FOR EVERY PRODUCT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. Try go to a BMW dealership and expect Kia prices. They will laugh in your face. People are willing to pay the extra $100 to get an iPhone. If you don't feel that way then go ahead and buy an Android. Its a free country after all.

Personally I'm happy Apple commands a premium price. While all the rest of the phone makers are doing a race to cheaper prices and lower quality junk. Extra profits allow Apple to bring out iPhones with cutting edge tech every year = Multi-touch, iOS, Retina, Touch-ID, ApplePay, 3D touch. Without profits there would be no money for R&D. And then Apple would be just like the other phone makers and just copy the market leader.

We all know Samsung's R&D division is simply looking at what Apple does. They blatantly copied iOS and multi-touch. They copied fingerprint and ApplePay. And now the news says their next galaxy phone will have 3d touch. Pathetic.

I've been using the 16gb models for as long as i can remember. I have everything on my phone i need, and yet, i always have at least 5 gigs of free space. If i don't use something daily, than i just simpley delet it. Wifi is everywhere, at least where i live, so when i need an app, or anything else, i just donwload it from the appstore... Why should i fill up my iPhone with stuff that I don't use, or don't need? I do take pictures, and videos sometimes, althought i have to admint, i'm no photographer, or youtuber, so... I usually upload all the photos to a cloud service with plenty of space, or just simpley unload it to my macbook. I like to keep things simple. I only have the music on my iPhone that i actually listen to daily... Thank god, Apple music is great, so when i want to listen to something that i don't have, i just stream it, or make it available offline. It's that simple. It's all about how you manage your content. Despite of the above, I could not agree more, Apple should make the 32gb storage as the starter, and they should no ask more money for it.

I've said this in your other threads, and I'll say it again. Your car comparison is flawed. You can't compare the number of people it holds, but how much room is inside the car in total. Every generation cars get larger and larger, giving more room for it's occupants.

You like to mention Apple's profit margins. Well what about all the money Apple lost from people who needed 64GB of storage, and now they only need to spend $750 instead of $850? Surely that cut into their losses.

Apple is already making a TON of money on the iPhones. Sure, they can make even more by keeping the base model at 16GB, but at some point they need to get with the times and make 32GB standard. It will also make everything fair, as now you get double the storage for $100 and the people who buy base model phones don't feel like they are getting cheated by Apple, after they doubled the storage for the other two tiers.

You know that some Android phones are now coming with 64GB standard right? Whenever a low or mid-ranged Android phone comes out with 16GB, the reviewers always criticize them, and that's on $300 phones. Upper mid-ranged and high end phones have been starting at 32GB for over a year now, and most of them are $500-$600 which is cheaper than the iPhone (before you get into quality and blah blah, many Android phones also use premium metal and glass bodies, with top of the line specs and features, only difference is the OS).

I have a 32GB phone and only have 4GB free. I don't have much, just about 50 small apps (no games), and a couple hundred songs cached for offline playback along with 400 photos.

I think the bottom line of this thread is, if you are happy that Apple is milking you that $100 ridiculous fee for going 64GB while every other competitor has already made 32gb, if you have a chance go complain to Apple and let them know that as a customer you are disappointed.

If you are an Apple investor and love that $100 fee, don't say anything and keep hoping Apple keeps the 16GB base for next year and many more to come.

If someone doesn't play games, record videos or take photos, he can go for 16gb iPhone 6s LOL.

I believe that 32gb base is overdue, that being said i manage with my 16gb model just fine. I dont play any big games, i use the option to compress music in itunes, i use photo stream and purge photos from the iphone about once a month.

640x480 x 4 = 1,228,800, 3840x2160 = 8,294,400. You call a difference of 7,065,600 pixels splitting hairs? Please just admit you were wrong on that one.

(Hopefully you're aware pixel counts don't directly translate to storage used by compressed video anyway. A more accurate comparison would be with video bitrates on the 3G and 6s.)

Use of the camera is certainly one of the largest storage-eating factors on iPhones, as many people use their iPhones as a main device to take photos and videos. Luckily for owners of 16 GB devices, 4K is turned off by default, but Live Photos is not.

Sorry for the bump but 1080p said they would no way release the plus model last year and well... Yeah haha. He's been wrong before.
