Really, this again...

Many customers run out of storage past the return period, as the iPhone fills up with apps, photos, and videos. Apple wouldn't sell iPhones knowing return rates will be high.

Many people would realize after they restore their backup, if it was going to be an issue...

If you're restoring to a new 16GB, you're probably coming from another 16GB model.

This thread is just a waste of time amongst the hundreds of others on the same subject. Some people don't need anything, some people require much more. Move on.

I'm using a 16GB for testing purposes and find myself often hitting the storage limits.

Maybe 16GB owners got the 16GB model because they knew they could live with just 16GB?

When I ran out of storage on my iPhone 5s 16GB, my first instinct was to free up the space by offloading photos and videos, not return the phone.

I remember back when Apple released the iPhone in 2007. It came with 4GB or 8GB. Crazy to think that 9 years later, the base iPhone storage is only 4x.
Not really... if you think about it further...

The original iPhone had a 2MP camera. Multiply that by 4 and you have 8MP. We are only just getting past 8MP with the iPhone. if you factor in the 3GS camera... it was 3.1MP and could shoot 480p video. Multiply those by 4 and you are getting 12MP and 4K video (roughly).

With the camera improvements in mind... I think we are spot on with storage.

The problem is that apps are getting bigger and data is no longer unlimited... so more people like to keep media to be consumed (music/movies) stored on their devices.

Woah, currently 4x on camera is 8mp. So no, the camera has 6x.

You even mentioned 4K video... 16GB LOL.

You must be working for Apple because I'm sure everyone agrees that 32GB should be minimum.

Right... because I can step outside of the box and give a thought out objective view about shipping a 16GB device... I must be working for Apple. How old are you? You don't seem very mature. I actually think that 32GB should be the bottom tier. I even gave reasoning for it in my post... but like I said... my reasoning for advocating 32GB had nothing to do with the camera.

I doubt many typical phone users have managed to fill their 16GB storage in around a week...

People who buy 16gb will be in for a surprise once they figure out how much space Live Photos and 4K takes up.

I feel bad because many people will be in for a surprise...and it will come AFTER the return period.

I don't agree, because I don't care what the minimum is. Either 16 or 32, I would have ended up buying the 64GB model. And it probably still would have cost me $100 extra.

The 16GB makes sense as a lower model for the same reason they still sell a 5s. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles. Some people don't take pictures, watch videos, or listen to music on their phones. Both my mother and my pseudo-mother in law are like that. If they had 100 pictures on their phone combined, I'd be surprised. And since they're not big gamers, app storage isn't an issue.

Businesses are also consumers of the 16GB models. Why should they pay extra for their staff to use the phone for personal stuff?

Simple solution... Buy what you need. Who cares what the minimum is. If you think Apple would up the lowest storage without making their money back somehow, I've got a bridge to sell you...

Returned mine yesterday. 16 gig is for those who use the phone and messages apps only and just wanna be cool to own an iPhone lol. Kidding of course but seriously 16GB is not enough...even for me who only has 2 pages of apps

I returned my 16gb iPhone 6s Plus today for a 64gb iPhone 6s Plus. I only purchased it as I was unable to get hold of a 64/128 model here in London.

16gb isn't for everyone but, it is for some. Those who only use their phones for social media, web browsing, the occasional photo/song it's more than enough. Not everyone stores a lot on their phones. For me it isn't optimal as I prefer to have access to some movies and music for when I'm traveling. I also don't have an unlimited plan, so I don't stream.

Why is it so difficult for some to accept that people use their phones differently.

I'm guessing it's because not that many people bought the 16gb :)...many are going for the 64gb model as its a happy medium.
