Professional reviews of anything mean nothing to me. Actual user reviews have more value, but in the end, its only my review that counts.

Right but kind of a "bad cop," "good cop" routine. Besides even he knows it would be ridiculous to suggest the notch is a fantastic design approach. No one loves the notch. It's a compromise. But like everything in life you learn to live with those and move on. Talk of the notch seems a bit overwrought to me as it's been the most visible "flaw" of the X from the start. From a review perspective I'm more interested in actual performance -- calls, data rates, actual usage other than using it as a TV.

Completely agree. The notch is something I know I won't even pay attention to after using it.

I love René to death. He is a very nice guy, and has worked hard to be recognized by Apple. But that work means saying wonderful things. The fact that he calls this the best ... if you call your cat's litter box great, and one day there's a particularly large pile and you call it the best ever.... It just means you really like cat litter box contents.
So he can’t say wonderful things bout great products? I don’t get it. Lol

Fantastic detailed review from Rene Richie over on iMore:
https://www.imore.com/iphone-x-review

If you're on the fence about buying iPhone X this year, you should go ahead and read it.

His summary conclusion is iPhone X is the best product Apple has ever made. This surely makes the price of iPhone X worth paying.

Good luck joining the lines on Friday :)

I'm not saying Rene is wrong but he literally says that every year for the new iPhone.

Rene's reviews are great, in-depth pieces that are well worth the read. However, I agree with many here, he has Apple blinders on. iMore benefits the more people buy Apple products, so they have much to gain by giving positive reviews of Apple devices. I don't think it's done manipulatively, but it's inherent with the site.

His video pointed out several "not perfect" things about the iPhone X. Wasn't much different than the other reviews that I've seen.

Well, it's an evolutionary product. Next year, we will all hear "it's the best iPhone ever made" superlatives. To me, Apple's only NEW products of the last five years is the Apple Watch and AirPods. That's more innovative. It's cool getting hyped for it but seriously? What do you expect them to say? Worst iPhone?

I compare iPhone X more to Super Mario 64. In 1996, SM64 was hailed the greatest game ever. I beaten it on N64 and DS. It's a pretty amazing game for its time but I believe Mario Galaxy, Odyssey, and even Sunshine surpassed it. Now if you go back, it is no longer remembered the best or greatest. Mario 64 is not even my favorite Mario game. It's Super Mario World, then NES trilogy with Super Mario Bros 2 being my #2 fav and that's the lowest rated one.

When I go back to play Mario 64, it took two years to develop but it doesn't feel finished. It felt rushed to be the centerpiece of N64's launch. Some levels are just plain and no textures with N64's limited storage. That's the kind of vibes I get with iPhone X. Prisoner of the moment superlatives. It's going to be a great device and very polished for a Gen 1 of a new design. But best Apple product ever? Relax. It's going to be great that can only get better as time passes with its successors.

It's not revolutionary. It's only evolutionary. Even Super Mario 64 felt more revolutionary watching Mario walk in a 3D world and not many rank it the best game ever anymore like they did in 1996. By 1998, Ocarina of Time surpassed it. Now many games surpassed both games and only gaming nostalgia has kept them relevant. Reviewers are HYPE folks. Video game reviewers and sports talk analysts do the same thing too. Hype, hype, hype the industry. Prisoners of the moment. Honeymoon phase intoxication because it feels new.

Face ID
Animoji

Gesture controls and OLED have been around for years. Gestures can be software-added for older iPhones. Same SoC and RAM as 8 Plus. Same Portrait Mode. Essentially the same rear camera with slight differences. Rene got intoxicated by too much Apple Kool-Aid spiked with alcohol. This three seconds of your life is the best ever! No, this three seconds of your life is the best ever!

iPhone X is a revolutionary device. It is the future of iPhone with the all-screen display, breakthrough facial recognition technology, bionic processors and the best cameras we've ever seen in any smartphone.

Apple has built a product that nobody thought possible. It is more powerful than most personal computers running either macOS or Windows. This is astonishing.

The new iPhone X lays the groundwork for the next decade of iPhone.

I think people are seriously under-appreciating how significant iPhone X is going to be. This why I truly believe Rene is right.

COMPLETELY BIASED. He just wants to keep getting free review units and WWDC passes every year from Apple.
"Touch-ID is a chore". Holding the iPhone up to your face every time as witnessed in the video isn't?

It felt as if you were just quoting the Apple site. Maybe that’s why you feel attracted to Rene’s style.

I’m in agreement that while I’m excited for the new phone and believe it will be a great phone, I don’t read imore reviews, they come off extremely biased.

That and the massive amount of ads....

And also their new website theme reminds of sprints website

Tim Cook himself could throw bricks through Rene's car windows and slash his tires.

The next day, Rene would make a post on iMore praising and raving about Tim's precise knife slashes and stellar throwing arm, while theorizing that the knife itself was an Apple prototype that will change everything we know about the concept of cutting something.

It maybe the best iPhone but not the "best bang for your buck iPhone". The iPhone X is not 2x better than the iPhone 7.

I absolutely can’t stand iMore/Rene Ritchie. Absolutely biased. Every time the competition has something, they completely **** on it (OLED sucks, NFC sucks, 3.5’’ is the perfect size, etc) until Apple releases then that’s when they will praise that some technology. Hell, the Verge is better than iMore.

OK, I think you've set a new standard for over the top hyperbole on this one. Nobody's going to top you.

Now as to best Apple product ever? I disagree, I don't think it is.

I don’t really think you can tell someone they need to deal with compromise on a $1000 phone. The notch affects everything. If samsung had the design of the X then we would be complaining about that and if Apple at the GS8s design, we’d praise them for being notch free. The display is the most visible and important part of the phone.

Honestly, I feel that Apple could have just made the screen near the notch all black to blend in with the notch. But, alas, I’m not the CEO of Apple.

The phone itself seems incredible. I’m sure it is the best Apple has made.
