As beautiful as the new iPhone is I actually find the original iPhone to be my favorite in terms of build.

+1

I had the 4GB from day one and loved it! To this day, I still think it was the best design. If I could stick my iP4 guts into the 2nd gen iPhone I'd be set! :p

Speed and 3G are worth the upgrade alone.

I agree with this comment. It's worth the upgrade.

Yeah, why keep the 1956 Corvette when you can upgrade to the much faster, superior 2010 Corvette? :D

1) My contract has unlimited data, enough minutes and enough texts. If I upgrade I pay more and get less. Plus, I risk signing on for two more years with AT&T when there seems to be a chance for an iPhone on another carrier. Not that I think others are any better, but I do think that competition will bring plan pricing down.

Mine was actually a wash, as the FAN discount kicked in after upgrading to 3GS from original iPhone. You still keep unlimited data if you have any previous iPhone with unlimited data so that's not a valid argument. I think Verizon would be more expensive compared to at&t.

2) Although I have 4 Gb, I haven't had any desire for more. I have pages of apps and I have enough music on it for my workout every day. When I want to change it up, I just sync some different tunes. And movies? Tried to watch a movie once. Terrible. I don't see the point. Too small. No need to have them on a phone.

It can be difficult to rack up storage if you can't do much (no video recording, etc.), but 4 GB has been plenty for many.

3) "New" features. Ya, I can't send photo texts. How many would I send? Probably none. I only get one every couple months and it's usually just a drunk person making a face. Home screen wallpapers, etc.: who cares. Face time? Don't know enough people with iPhone 4's to make it worth it, although if my lady friend got one I could see the benefit. Others? Why would I want to see you?

I do dig the better camera, the multitasking, and 3G (nope, still on edge), but is it enough?

You left out the most important feature, faster processor speed. This was first apparent in the 3GS and was way more noticeable than getting 3G speed. But if you've never experienced it, you won't miss it.

Man I would give anything to experience the leap from first gen to 4th.
That would be one helluva "oh wow" moment.

Aesthetically I find the original iphone the best looking as well. It's just so beautiful and was a radically design when it rolled out. I'm on my 3rd iphone and still keep the old one around as a alarm clock, ipod, wifi device at home... I still love more than the subsequent iphones I've owned.

We (my fiancee and I) have a 2G in the house, we plan on never selling it. EVER.

Waited in line and payed a **** ton of money for it since that was before they realized how low they could go price wise.

While we both will eventually update, she loves her 2G and it does all she requires it to do.

Plus, one day it'll be a relic and worth more money then the iPhone4.

For a 3 year old phone, its held its value really well. They still go on eBay for over £100. Try selling any other 3 year old phone for that price.

I don't think it'll ever be worth more than the iPhone 4 though.

I was using my 2nd generation phone, but I decided, eh, it's time to upgrade. Both of the phones look almost the same side-by-side, but the speed of the new A4 chip, the 32GB of space, and the beautiful sharp retina display make all the difference. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Seriously?

There is no part of this statement that I can agree with. The iPhone4 is just apple ripping off Jailbreak App's and European technology (video calling).

The original iPhone was a break through in it the smart phone filed. It'll be worth something, more then 199 with a 2 year contract...trust me.

I have three iPhones activated, my original, my 3G and my iPhone 4. I just have them all activated mostly to be able to use data on any one of them at any time. I still love the original but to me, nothing will ever beat the iPhone 4.

When all apps stop supporting the 2G then what are you going to do?

They won't for a very long time.

Last month I read that some analytics group that apps use reported that 25% of all original iPhones are still in use today. That's allot of iPhones to leave out.

I had four apps last week that were updated to run on 4.0 only but after a few days, were updated once again to include 3.1.3. Developers are doing this because 3.1.3 IS the current OS for the original iPhone. They have no choice but to run 3.1.3.

I couldn't imagine using a first gen iPhone even compared to a 3GS. The snappiness of the phone is just too much better.

The difference between an original iPhone and iPhone 4 are beyond explanation. Hell yes you should upgrade. 3G, much faster phone, bigger battery, more updated OS, more space, more features.. need more?

I kinda am with you there man.

Not that I am saying that I am not satisfied with my buddy here, the iPhone 4.

But yes, I do think that Apple hasn't yet done a BIG REVOLUTIONARY upgrade to the iPhone line. Each year is just a pack of features for the phone and some spec bumps. By this I mean, that it doesn't feel as it was on 2007, or when you upgraded from a Nokia or Motorola Razr to a iPhone, it FELT as a NEW product.

I have been using the 8gig 1st gen iPhone since day one. I absolutely love it. I will probably alway keep it around. Sure it has been through hell and back, is dinged up, doesn't vibrate anymore and the speakers don't output anymore (except for the phone - weird) but it keeps trucking along on the edge network.

I have an iPhone4 arriving on Thursday and I can't wait. The features I am most looking forward to are: 3G, A4, Retina Display, GPS, video camera and the overall experience of switching to the latest and greatest. I can't wait.

I agree with some other members that the design of the 1st gen iPhone is fantastic. I never understood why Apple went with the plastic back. I am very interested in seeing the two devices working side-by-side.

This is just me though. OP to each his own. You can't miss what you haven't experienced. If it works for you that is great. I have waited three years to update and it is time.

With the resell values on these Iphones I can't see why you wouldn't want to upgrade. I've pretty much covered all cost of the Iphones purchases because of that.

I would shoot myself if I had to use the original iphone right now....

- no speed
- edge only
- limited RAM
- limited storage 4gb
- endless list of features that aren't compatible
- edge only

I know how to fix your first gen problem. Get the new iPhone 4. It's better in every single way.

I'm very nostalgic about my original iPhone. I'm so sad that it's sitting in a box in my closet.

But at least it has some company now sitting with my old 3G.

i like how people dont really say whats new. i guess stuff like agps, video recording, voice contro,l a4, 4x ram, thinner, better battery, flash, dual mic, 3g, better camera, front camera, more memory, better speaker, better screen, higher res screen, cleaner screen, compass, gyro scope, multitasking, mms ect ect since i have a life and dont care to think any deeper and dont care if this guy gets it or not.
