S0 owner since launch day and it’s never failed on me. The only issue is I have not updated the watch since WOS4.0. The reason being Apple removed Heart Rate Monitoring for the S0 in v4.1 and I doubt they will bring it back. At some point I will have to bite the bullet but it annoys the hell out of me:- Apple killed this usage and for that I am expected to buy a new model just to get it back!

I’m not but I gave my 0 to my wife just to see if she likes the idea of a smart watch. Which is why I bought it too. Currently using a 3 and wouldn’t change it for the world. Making calls independent from the phone is amazing.

Are you sure about that? I believe the heart rate monitoring capabilities in 4.1 onwards are the same as in 4.0 on "Series 0" watches.

What kind heart rate monitoring capabilities exactly are you talking about, that you're getting on your watch with 4.0 that you fear losing when updating?

From the release notes of watchOS 4:

Heart Rate
  • New visual graph showing all-day heart rate
  • New heart rate measurements and visual graphs for resting rate (Apple Watch Series 1 and later), walking average, workout average and high, recovery time, and sessions in the Breathe app
  • Option to be notified if your heart rate rises above a specified threshold while you appeared to be inactive for a 10-minute period (Apple Watch Series 1 and later)
  • Current and historical details of heart rate data in the Health app on iPhone, including new Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and VO2 Max data types
The constant monitoring of resting heart rate was never there on "Series 0", not with watchOS 4 nor earlier versions, it seems.

To answer your last sentence first ~ The constant monitoring of resting heart rate WAS still there with WatchOS 4.0. It is when they went to v4.1 it was removed. I should know, I am still on WatchOS 4.0
I believe it was found to be a mistake by Apple when they released 4.0. They later removed it for the S0 in 4.1 onwards.

Because you're saying it "was still there" with watchOS 4.0 – do you perhaps just mistake the standard heart rate measurements every few minutes (that have been there since Watch OS 1 and still are there in watchOS 4.2.2 on "Series 0") for the new constant resting heart rate monitoring feature introduced in watchOS 4?

Here's an article about the absence of the constant monitoring feature on "Series 0" from when watchOS 4 first came out: https://www.macrumors.com/2017/09/21/watchos-4-heart-rate-features-original-apple-watch/

What do you see when you open the heart rate app on your watch, anything else but "Current"?

Nope.. When I open the app from the watch (I have it as a compilation titled Heart Rate) It shows me 2 headings:- Current & Indoor Run. If I select Current I then see the graph above the current heart rate. The graph is the 24hr heart rate monitoring. It is the same with the In door Run. If I tap on this it opens up to Workout then in green the graph for 24hrs with the heart rate and a BPM High rate. Again it is the same as any S1, 2 or 3 watch. It’s just that Apple made a mistake when they released WatchOS4.0, they left it on the S0. It was later removed in WatchOS4.1.

Exactly what I thought. You're not seeing a "Resting Rate" heading, are you?

"Indoor Run" is there because you recently did a workout, for which the constant heart rate monitoring is supported on "Series 0" watches.

Here's what you get on a Series 1 or better with watchOS 4.x:

And here's what I get on my "Series 0" with watchOS 4.2.2:

"Laufen outdoor" means "Outdoor Run" and is there because of a recent workout. That doesn't have anything to do with the constant resting heart rate monitoring which never was available on "Series 0", neither in watchOS 4.0 nor before or after.

Feel free to update you Watch beyond watchOS 4.0, it won't take anything away from you!

I definitely am. Going to be three years in June, but thinking about making the jump to a S3 soon. My battery life is only lasting around 5-6 hours tops now.

Wow, these battery life comments have me worried, we might go ahead and jump up a series (or 3) while the batteries are still good and can be resold on eBay with good conscience. BHPhoto has $20 off a specific LTE sport model. Might have to go for it.

my S0 got the commonly-reported "black spot of death" on the top right corner of the screen (same exact place in all reported cases). I got a good deal on a S1 (from Dick's Sporting Goods, of all places), otherwise I was ready to just give up on the Apple Watch.

I don't understand all these battery issues on the S0?!

I guess it depends how you use your watch - I've owned mine for years and yet the battery is always on over 50% at the end of each day (I wear mine between 7am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday with a couple of notifications each day).

Battery life is always subjective depending on someone's usage, charging rates and how often. That's why Apple Watch or any electronic device that's battery powered will never have the same consistency, because the user will treat the device differently producing different results.

I was initially going to hold out but I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to the 42mm LTE Nike Watch and I have no regrets. It’s nice to go to the gym without my 8 Plus and just use my AirPods or Beats Studio Wireless headphones.

I think the reason I couldn’t wait anymore is because I mainly use it for notifications and workouts and it was taking 3-5 minutes to start a workout at the gym. After awhile I couldn’t take it anymore. Also my watch could barely last a full workday before dying.

Still a solid little watch though and could have lasted for another year or two...so I sold it to a family member who would just use for notifications.

My 42mm SS is still going strong. I use it every day to track a 30 min workout, for notifications, weather, HomeKit, etc. My battery life is between 10-30% after sixteen hours of use. It's the only watch I have ever owned that does not have scratches on the face. The SS body does have fine scratches. The Milanese band still looks great except for the magnet area which also has fine scratches. None of those bother me. The lag from iOS 4.0 was reduced with 4.2.2. The very first time I open the workout app for the day it is slow (7-10 seconds), but after that it is fine.

I Can't say enough good things about The Sapphire display on the stainless model. You don't have to worry about using any screen protectors, its highly scratch resistant and when looking at such a small display like the Apple Watch, it makes a huge difference in preserving the display being how easily the watch is damaged.

How many of you are still rocking the S0 Apple Watch? I got mine on launch day, and after wearing it every day since, it's still going strong. I'm a technology teacher, so I'm constantly working with my hands in computer cases, with tools, etc, so it's getting pretty beat up at this point but it still does everything I need. There's a big gouge in the glass, a ton of little scratches around the edges of the glass, and the aluminum has been worn smooth and shiny. Beyond being a watch, my most common uses of the watch are for communication (texting), weather, and timers. How many of you lot are still rocking the S0, and what do you use it for?

Sorry for the silly question...what is Series 0 Apple Watch? My understanding is that there has been 3 generations, and the last is gen (series) 3, so previous was 2, and launch was 1...What am I missing please?
[doublepost=1517485731][/doublepost]I have had a SSAW from launch day. I've moved on to Ceramic white series 3 and couldn't be any happier. I'm getting immediate response on Siri and 3+ days battery life even with LTE with my Series 3.

My wife now has the SS which was a 38mm so fine for her wrists. She just likes the watch face and heart monitor for sports. However I never liked the responsiveness of the first generation personally...it was way too slow.

With a sad heart I sent my S0 off to Music Magpie (got £100 for it), had it 2 1/2 years and it just felt really slow and the battery was struggling to make it through the day and I'm not a heavy user. Loving my S3, onwards and upwards!

I just sold my S0 SS with Link Bracelet and got a S3 Space Grey Sport. It’s bitter sweet really. I loved the SS watch but the speed and battery were getting too me. Plus the resale value isn’t great and I got a very good price on the S3 so went for it. It kinda makes me wanna get a Space Black S3 with Link Bracelet. Help! Haha

You all may be in for a pleasant surprise with the launch of watchOS 4.3.

Not exactly sure if it's luck, a glitch, or the placebo effect, but performance of my S0 42mm seems quite a bit better than it was on 4.2.2. While it's still not fast by any means, it's definitely more in line with what I can recall of watchOS 3 and earlier.

YMMV.

I was rocking a series 0 stainless black watch for the last 3 years. I just upgraded to the series 3 last week. The difference is staggering. My series 0 would be almost dead by the end of the day. The series 3 typically has 75% at end of day. The performance difference is unbelievable. Don’t miss the series 0 a bit!

Huge differences between the first generation and Series 3 Apple Watch. Even though they still have a lot of same functionality, performance is everything with the Apple Watch in terms of battery life lasting throughout the day. The processor is just so much more efficient.

People who still have the S0 (me included) should actually keep them as they're now classed as 'Limited Edition' seeing that you can't buy them anymore!!!!!
:p:p

Actually I have a sealed S0 unopened, wrapped in bubble wrap. I'm hoping some collector wants it in 7-12 years and is willing to pay a bundle for it.
