I can see them using the almost same power brick that is on the new iMac that has MagSafe. Maybe the Magsafe would be round like the iMac power brick.
Agree. Same brick would be cool (digging the built-in CAT-5 and less clutter angle) and smart (from a streamlined production angle). But the business end of MagSafe, be it round or other, would have to be smaller than the iMac’s (maybe stating the obvious).

All of you people complaining about this I just want to ask and be honest. How many of you went and looked at all the leaked celebrity iCloud photos from the frappening a few years ago? Boobs are OK but at least everyone draws the line at tech schematics...

Why are you posting stolen information?

The law in the UK regarding this story which is likely the same in the US; as long as MacRumors didn't solicit the theft or pay for it and is not publishing copyright images but is merely sharing the details which are publicly available then it is not breaking the law. Newspapers do this with some frequency.

I was hoping they put some USB-A ports on there. At least 1! I have so many USB-A cables. I can do without the SD card reader, though I'm sure that is valuable for someone that has a dedicated camera that they take photos with.
Considering there are USB-3/4 to USB-A adapters all over the place it is not surprising Apple dumped the USB-A port. Heck, there are one USB-3/4 port to four USB-A port adapters out there.

Completely agree with everything you posted there.

For whatever reason they have lost the understanding and implementation of design being much more than just “how it looks”.

I would argue that about the white bezel on the iMac.

I’m fine with them offering that for some fun and change, but they need to be offering a black one as an option also.

I had a white bezel iPad Pro one time and oh my, never again. Particularly with a feature like True Tone. The white bezel basically never looks good next to the content on the screen
I actually hope a company like dbrand will produce black skins to frame the new iMac's screen. True Tone will look piss-yellow surrounded by a glossy light-colored bezel.

Stop making up stuff I didn't say, it won't change the simple fact: breaking an NDA is not a crime.
For the record, I didn't make up things you didn't say. That said, your reply stating breaking NDA isn't a crime does seem to deliver a message that it's ok (whether you intended to or not), in which this is totally not the case.

On hind-sight, I perhaps should not have used the word illegal. However, NDAs are legally enforceable and one cannot expect there be no consequences when intentionally breaking them.

In short: It's NOT OK to break an NDA.

Well it was hurting those that use F keys.

As to ports, I don't mind the extra ports coming back as long as it is not at the expense of the headphone jack.
So I have a problem with my MacBook Pro and have had to return to using my 2013 MacBook Pro. I miss the Touchbar after only a few minutes. I use F keys all the time, admittedly I do have to press FN key to get them but that’s not a big deal. Fast forwarding past YouTube vids is a big miss without Touch Bar, working between website backend and front end and other pages without Touch Bar has been a pain, some of my favourite apps make good use of Touch Bar, and as a dyslexic, the predictive typing is a bonus. So me, I want the best of 16” MacBook Pro layout plus those rumoured ports and the M1(+,X,pro, or M2) and I’m good

How many people really need an SD Card slot in 2021?

Even if your primary camera isn't your iPhone... then you can get a WiFi SD card, and your fancy SDLR camera also comes with a cable that let's you upload your Photo's to your MacBookPro via the USBC port.

Well, lots of cameras still have sucky USB 2.0 built in so using a card reader almost always makes sense. But you're right, XQD and CFExpress are the future. SD is last-decade's tech. more importantly, a USB C card reader is cheap and doesn't consume a rarely used port with a dedicated device.

This is my thought with new Thunderbolt 4 specs the length can now be 6 and half feet long, ideal for a cable that would carry power and thunderbolt 4. So like we see now on the iMac there is no reason why they could not put a thunderbolt 4 pipe to the power adapter. that would give the system 4 thunderbolt 4 port on the power brick its self like the current MacBook Pro 16 has now. It might look like you are giving up a thunderbolt port but you are not, it is just now in a different location. I can see why on the new iMac they put a ethernet port on the brick, because this system goes into a lot of schools and the iMac has enough ports on the back of it.
The big gap is that there aren't very many USBC/4 hubs out there. Sure, there's docks, with yet another set of unused and unecessary ports, but the good old fashioned 7 port USB-A hub equivalent doesn't exist. The closest thing is the new CalDigit one, but it's way backordered.

I doubt they will do this after releasing an iMac with less ports.
I think the iMac is 100% a consumer-focused machine. It's way closer to the original coloured iMacs from waaaaay back than anything we've seen from that line recently. If you think about, it's more like a desktop iPad than anything else—i.e., an iPad with a big screen, that runs macOS, and is optimized for keyboard/mouse input.

Personally, I think they'll probably release an iMac Pro that checks more usage boxes for prosumers... But it's also possible we'll see this long-rumoured mini tower Mac. Either way, they need a desktop to fit the prosumer market and/or the market of pros without infinitely deep pockets (i.e., non-corporate pros... like myself).

For all the ways the TOUCHBAR is pointless, it's still better than static keys for most things. Simple things like the way it suggests multiple email addresses or phone numbers when filling out forms (one tap easy), or being able to set/change some keys to be what/where you want them (like setting a lock key on my Touch Bar). I can't say it's perfect but after 4+ years of it, I would def choose it over function keys.

Schematics stolen from Apple supplier Quanta Computer outline Apple's plans for the next-generation MacBook Pro models that are expected in 2021, and clearly confirm plans for additional ports and a return to MagSafe.

Ports-2021-MacBook-Pro-Mockup-Feature-1-copy.jpg

MacRumors saw the schematics after they were leaked online, and some of them feature the logic board of the next-generation MacBook Pro. On the right side of the machine, there's a visible HDMI port, accompanied by a USB-C/Thunderbolt port and followed by an SD Card reader. The left side features two additional USB-C/Thunderbolt ports and a MagSafe charging slot, for a total of three USB-C/Thunderbolt ports instead of four as we have today.

Rumors from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg have previously said that all of these ports will be coming to the 2021 MacBook Pro models, but the schematics both confirm the addition of the new ports and give us insight into their positioning.

The codename for the Mac is "J316," which suggests that the logic board that we've seen is for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. There's also a "J314" model that likely correlates to the 14-inch MacBook Pro that Apple is also rumored to be working on. Both machines are expected to feature the new ports, MagSafe charging option, and upgraded Apple silicon chips.

This information, which was also shared by 9to5Mac, comes from a ransomware group called REvil, which claims to have accessed the internal computers of Apple supplier Quanta Computer.

Along with the logic board layout, the documentation includes deeply technical listings of MacBook components and layouts that may ultimately provide additional information on these machines as it's parsed. Leaked images of the new MacBook Pro floating around on Twitter also confirm that the device will not feature a Touch Bar, which is in line with rumors that we've heard. The casing design may also feature more rounded corners.

REvil has threatened to release additional documents stolen from Quanta Computer if Apple does not pay a ransom fee by May 1. REvil plans to release new files every day until Apple pays the fee, and Apple has not commented on the situation.

Quanta Computer said that it has indeed been subject to "cyber attacks on a small number of Quanta servers" but that there's "no material impact on the company's business operation.

I know you are only reporting news but this data from a ransomware attack cannot be compared to usual rumours/leaks (which are also, to be fair, stolen information). This is on another level altogether and am not sure if tech outlets should be publishing this stuff..

I can see them using the almost same power brick that is on the new iMac that has MagSafe. Maybe the Magsafe would be round like the iMac power brick.
It would make since for them to use the same connection, but the iMac M1 "MagSafe" looks like it would be too big to fit on a MacBook.

You should respect the fact that some of us have a problem with what MacRumors has done. We are entitled to an opinion. Reasonable people can certainly disagree. I can tolerate and even respect dissenting viewpoints. Can you? Oh, and in answer to your question, the answer is no.

Controversial opinion: I’d pay extra for a TouchBar equipped 16” MBP. Function keys are a complete waste of space - I don’t always need a brightness slider there, for example.

I think there's a use case for Touch Bars for those who need them or find them useful. But I'm a developer, and I use the function keys as ... function keys. So I'd *hope* the TouchBar becomes optional, and not in the two-tiered sense it was before, where only the least powerful laptops went without, and that if you wanted more than the slowest you paid a premium in the form of a TouchBar-You-Don't-Want-But-Have-To-Pay-For-Anyway tax.

For all those that hate the touch bar, Apple could add the touch bar above the function key row, especially on the 16" model - there's plenty of space. Touch bar haters get to ignore it, function key lovers get to press them, everyone happy, singing and dancing, a bit like Disneyland.
