USB C is the best thing to happen to device charging in decades.

I absolutely DO NOT WANT to return to proprietary chargers and connectors. Apple, hope the Magsafe is optional and this will remain chargeable from a USB C port.
I also do not want to lose a lightning port for a MagSafe port haha. This is a dumb move overall

Nice. MacRumors disclosing knowingly misappropriated trade secrets?
This has been reported by many websites other than Macrumors. It's not like they are distributing the actual files. They are just reporting on what they noticed from the papers that now freely available online to see. I guess they could have not reported it and people would have then just gone and looked for the information else where and not have had a problem with it or go to sketchy sites to download the files to read thus compromising security. Also if it was CNN or fox news reporting the same stuff 99% of the people complaining on here wouldn't have an issue with that.

The only reason I would be upset at macrumors posting this is if it was an exclusive to them that they paid for or were somehow profiting off it. I mean this is a website dedicated to Apple news and just like any other journalist in the world posted news about a topic that the site is geared towards.

The hackers went after the deepest pockets, but since Quanta is technically at fault, I imagine they are going to be coming up with the money if anyone pays. In this situation Quanta probably has much more to lose in the form of business than Apple does.
I suspect that quanta has received a call from Apple: Any ransom payment and you are in deep trouble. Apple will also send in some people to beef up security at Quanta and send Quanta the bill.

I would hope a non-USB-C charging port would be to allow quicker charging and that you could still use standard USB-C for slow charging. USB-C maxes out at 100W, which is actually very constricting. My 15" Macbook will still drain it's battery sometimes even with an 85W power brick when I'm doing a lot(It's using more than 85W of power). I'd really like to see a standardized power supply that provides ~500W of DC power.
This might not be a problem for Apple Silicon.

Is it newsworthy? Yes. So I understand why MacRumors would feel motivated to post this.

However, at the same time, doesn't posting this serve the criminals' purposes of adding pressure to pay the ransom? I feel that it may not be ethical to post this for that reason. If the ransom were not involved, I would feel differently. But you are indirectly assisting a criminal action with this, aren't you?
I reported the initial article - I will be interested to see the reply if I get one...

It was a typo.
It is wrong that somebody stole this information and is trying to extort Apple with it.

It is also wrong for anybody to report on the stolen technical details.

Your flippant attitude on such a simple topic makes you look bad.
OMG.... It's not like you wouldn't have just gone to another website to find the news anyways because it's not like you are on a website that people come too to learn things in advance that Apple hasn't released yet.... Hell I guarantee 50% percent of the people complaining right now about them posting would have probably actively searched out the actual documents in question if someone hadn't reported on it. How is that better? Don't say they wouldn't because come on, how many people say something like this shouldn't be done and then go home and torrent movies, TV shows or music. It's not like that isn't stolen property. It's easy for people to say this is wrong because it isn't something they actively engage in themselves when doing the exact same thing in another scenario.

I've been coming here, as a formal member, since 2001. Lurked here even earlier. Over the course of TWO DECADES (omfg that seems impossible), I have read thousands of posts. And I can't recall a single time where anyone in this community took issue with the ethics of any of the leaked info MR has posted to date. None. Until today. Weird.
Groupthink and the power of suggestive word choice. If MR swapped "leaked" for "stolen" in their headlines would the fleeting outrage continue?

What's the difference between leaked and stolen?

Stop making up stuff I didn't say, it won't change the simple fact: breaking an NDA is not a crime.
Breaking an NDA is a breach of contract, meaning you can be sued for damages. And if the NDA involves a trade secret, which is usually the case, it _is_ a crime.

I fully expect that it'll be chargeable from all USB-C ports *as well as* the MagSafe. But frankly MagSafe was the best laptop charging solution ever. USB-C is smart in that you can charge anything with the same plug and use any port, sure. But MagSafe was a better designed charging solution. MagSafe has saved my laptop a few times at uni from being taken for a whirl when others have stepped on it.

I understand that most here will disagree with me. Of course that is their right. But I must offer my own disgust that MacRumors chooses to headline information so soon from documents stolen by a third party. It provides a key outlet that the thieves were counting upon and sullies your journalistic integrity. Now, I got that off my chest. I respect and value these forums and most all of the people who participate in them. Thanks for listening.
How many movies, TV shows or songs have you or, anyone else on here who have said this is wrong, have downloaded in the past that you didn't have the rights too? It's stolen property just like this but because you get pleasure out of it, you shrug it off like it's ok. Hypocrisy at its finest. It's just like everyone I know that rags on someone who has gotten a DWI, but has drank and drove multiple times in the past.

MagSafe, HDMI Port, Physical Function Keys, everything they removed is getting back. I kinda liked the TouchBar shortcuts on select apps that had them implemented.

Riiiiiiiight. Half of us here support criminals because we are soaking up leaked information. You might want to leave this thread so that you don’t get your untarnished hands mixed up with the likes of us “criminal supporters”.
Why did you put quote characters around “criminal supporters”? Don’t like it?

Gripped my ass to have to pay for the stupid touchbar that I disabled
Do not like the USB c charging port either - the MagSafe was so much better

I am old so this 2020 MBP is probably my last, so probably stuck with it...

I sure hope the future iMac Pro will have all these ports because it's ridiculous the standard iMac barely has any and a laptop does.
