I'm not wrong. How can you compare something that runs full Windows with something that runs a mobile OS?

Windows 8 is a mobile os--what is the destinction?

That is has fewer apps? Agreed--that may make it less useful in some respects--but not less a mobile os.

That it has a desktop? yes but this is abstracted to be a single tile in the mobile interface. The modern interface does not navigate to the desktop except when some settings menus are invoked. Not a big deal.

That you dont like it? not much of an arguement.

Pcs outsell macs by a ratio of 10 to 1 and i would guess more than a third of pcs now are hybrids. So hybirds are likely outselling macs.

Ten by fourteen would be great.

I like the way you cat thinks!

Yeah us applecats, give us an inch, we want that mile every time. That's how cats always try to work it. Mine do, anyhow.

Kidding aside, I started with an iPad and liked it, and still like it. But I also argued in the past for the value of an iPad mini, and when they brought one, I got one. I love it for its portability and versatility. For some of my design work where I need more real estate on the screen, I can see the utility of a 10 x 14 iPad. I don't see any conflict arguing in favor of smaller and larger models of this gear.

Circumstances dictate what size seems useful. Right now after a couple years using tablets I'd say for reading books the mini is great, same for checking mail and quick browse of the news, or maybe watching movies, music or TV while making supper or being stuck in the dentist's waiting room, etc. For other stuff - reading magazines or papers with charts and so forth, or in my case looking closely at quilting magazines with block pattern details, the larger tablet is more useful, and still more portable than a laptop.

When I don't need the full power of my MBP then I'm happy using the original sized iPad but think I would welcome the larger format most of the time. Its portability is less important to me, now that I have the mini on hand for that. I don't want to spend laptop-sized money on a bigger iPad though, so there's likely a practical limit, i.e., at some point I'd opt for an external display instead of a larger tablet surface. And I hasten to emphasize that I would really miss the mini size iPad if Apple stopped making it.

So like my two cats, I want everything my way and sooner the better. Situation normal! :D

Oh dear. You're using a rumour to prove that a rumour is correct.

And the rumour article you linked to mentions nothing about running OS X.

So I would suggest you don't start cooking that crow just yet, unless you want to be the one chowing it down.

I think you mean ios and I didn't start this silly thread. It's the thread OP that stated it would never happen. I have no clue what the fruit company has cooking but I'm wouldn't say something is never going to happen.

Nope, I mean OS X. This thread is specifically about large iPads that can run full OS X, as opposed to iOS. And I personally agree with the OP that a large iPad that runs OS X is not going to happen.

A larger iPad that runs iOS is, however, moderately likely, although I personally do not see the point of it.

And I do agree that this thread is silly. Let alone counterproductive, as we are all now talking about 12-13" iPads.

I am typing this right now on a 12 inch Galaxy tab, and it is pretty awesome. Yes, it is bigger than a 10 inch tablet and a bit more to hold in the hand. But I got it for sheet music. Even a 10 inch ipad is too small for a lot of sheet music pdfs. The size is also good for a reading device for elderly and for demos using the screen. Some games are also much more fun on a bigger screen.

It is definitely NOT the same as a laptop. It is clearly a tablet. I think the 12 inch ipad will have a huge market and will be quite useful and fun.

Wow!
A 12" iPad would be cool, but it would be pretty big to carry around. As far as OS X on an iPad, I like that idea. I thought about using a PowerBook 12" Aluminum to make a tablet with OS X. the motherboard is about 10"x5". I heard tell you can make a touch screen work with OS X.

Seriously?

So we have a, lets call it 10" iPad now
They increase the diagonal size to 12"

What's that going to put on the size? Perhaps an inch and a half in both directions approx.

How does an extra 1.5" become PRETTY BIG ?

A little larger would be the most you could say.

It's not like going from a 4" phone to a 5.5" phone which would be a large percentage size increase.

It is a gossip that will never ever happen. There will not be a half osx half ios giant ipad. It is ridiculous to think that Apple would even consider making such a device.

We will get a new MacBook Air. Retina. 12" if anything.

Do you know the name of this website?

I bought a Surface Pro 3 and kept it a few days before deciding to return it.

It felt substantially bigger than my iPad Air. I needed a laptop bag to carry the SP3, whereas I can shove the iPad into my shoulder bag and go.

This isn't the exact bag I have, but it's like this. An iPad (1-4 and the Air) fits in this bag. A 12 inch tablet won't.

Stop making threads about the very thing you're telling people to stop talking about

Well, I'm not going to stop talking about it; however, my needs are probably not like most people. I play the piano and organ, and the regular-sized iPad is too small IMO for reading PDF sheet music. If Apple puts out a 12" iPad then I may consider buying it and selling my iPad Mini Retina. :p

I am also an organist. I use iPad Air to play on two-manual-organs. If I have to play on 3 or 4-manual-organ, the iPad is too far to read.
A 12"9 iPad would be ideal for reading music. That would the first time ever I would wait on line for any device.

It was announced that an "iPad Pro" model is in development to compete with the Surface Pro 3.

I have used the iPad rMini to store and display my sheet music. I have for over a year. Just recently I found a microphone stand holder to hold the Air and have started using both tablets now. Of course the Air is better suited. I agree that the 12.9 would be ideal.

I need one ...

… to view music sheet music in the form of pdfs.

I own an iPad - too small.
Tried a 12" Galaxy Tab Pro - buggy software.
Purchased a Dell XPS 18" "tablet". A little large - 15" would have been large enough and I'm not too fond of Windows 8, but it gets the job done. Doubles as a PC on the stand.

I'm looking forward to a larger iPad! I'd like 15" but 12" will keep me from purchasing a Surface 3.

I was in an apple store the other day, watching this older lady put her fingers all over an iMac screen thinking it was a touchscreen. This must happen all the time!

I hate to admit this, but this actually happened to me. I am used to using my iPad and the other day a friend asked me to help him figure out something on his MBA. I started playing with it and found myself touching the screen multiple times trying to get it to "work". Finally figured out why it wasn't doing anything. Felt like such an idiot.
