This rule should be implemented, and anyone that disobeys, should be banished from society.

I think today's keynote proves, rather clearly, that Verizon and Apple are not on the same page. Maybe I'm crazy, but them going with AT&T for the iPad 3G access, not Verizon, makes it clear as day. I think the rumors on the Verizon iPhone should go to sleep for awhile.

I know they won't, just some hopeful thinking.

Apple Likely Resigned with AT&T

For all those Verizon users out there, I highly doubt we will see a Verizon iPhone for at least another 2-3 years, and I believe Apple probably resigned with AT&T for another few years of exclusivity. Why? I doubt AT&T agreed to offer a $30 data plan (which is HALF of what it costs other laptops) for the iPad if Apple was going to jump ship in a few months. In all likelihood, it almost guarantees AT&T will offer the phone exclusively for another few years. There is a 0% chance we see a Verizon iPhone this year. In fact, anyone bet that the AT&T contract was for 5 years and not 3? Wasn't that the initial rumor anyway?

EDIT: Apparently the iPad does NOT support T-Mobile's 3G band. So this is still an AT&T exclusive.

With the iPad being unlocked, it seems to be that the idea of SIM cards is what Apple is wanting.

With Verizon, you have a network that Apple would exclusively have to build iPhones just for that.

With being able to allow sim cards, you can (with the iPad) go from the USA, to Canada and then over to the UK with one device and be able to access networks.

Apple is in the business of "keep it simple, stupid" and a very restricted Verizon iPhone doesn't play nicely to that idea.

Who knows, maybe they extended their contract.
Why would Apple want to leave AT&T? They have it great and they're getting good deals for their products. Who can deny the cheap data plan for the ipad with no contract and with $15 and $30 amounts.
Apple is not even bothering at all with VZ and their CDMA network. They're going to sells tons of ipads worldwide with their GSM partners also.

Steve did state that the ipad comes simfree so you don't have to go with AT&T you can choose who you want. AT&T are offering a deal to use there service and it's like out o2 simplicity tarrifs which are 30 day rolling ones.

If they did, AT&T would be telling everybody and their mothers by now.
Why would they? They didnt give any details before besides saying they have a multi-year contract?
And not one thing else on the agreement they have with Apple and for how long. That could be a bad thing for them also to let people know when exactly their contract with Apple expires.

They had to have. I doubt AT&T would give Apple such a deal if they were about to lose their deal with the iPhone and iPad. The iPad doesn't even work with T-Mobile's 3G network, so, sure, you have a choice, but you'd be an idiot to chose TMobile's EDGE network over AT&T's 3G.

I hear you, mind as well get the wifi only model.
Its not like the AT&T $15 and $30 no contract plan is not a sweet deal.

At least with phones it's time to go!

My romance with Apple is finely over. For decades I have been a true believer. I bought one of the first macs in 1984 and have purchased over ten computers from them since. I was even such a fanatic that fledgling Apple stores in neighboring towns used to invite me to help set up Apples new issues (long ago before they ever imagined geniuses). The Iphone and now the ipad leave me feeling like a jilted lover. I had a sickening visceral response when they announced that the ipad will be on AT+T. That seemed more than a hint that Vorizon which actually works where I live will probably not be getting an iphone this year. I also was disheartened about the thought of Apple driving up the cost of e-books by pricing them 50% higher than other services. Jobs threw the Newton away and messed up itunes with copy protection to the point where I still have difficulty forcing myself to download music from their store. Could we have Wozniak back? In the meantime I have been teased once too often by Apple. Back in the day the slam on Microsoft was their practice of buying code and trashing it rather than writing new code in order to get rid of competition. Apple has gradually become better at that than Microsoft ever was. While my departure from the Apple boat, I am sure, will not be missed and Apple will continue making billions my new battle cry will be viva android! At least with Verizon I can finish a conversation when I get a phone call. I had AT&T for years. Perhaps it simply has boiled down to the reality that I hate AT&T more than I love the modern Apple.

I agree. And we'll probably never know, but maybe the iPad deal was a bone on AT&T's part, to help convince Apple to extend the iPhone exclusivity deal.

Really? I already pay them $30 a month for my (original) iPhone. Why should I pay twice to access their network? It's not like I'm going to use both at the same time. ATT needs to offer their customers who already pay for access a better deal.

Agreed, if I were to get the iPad, I would get the wifi only one. I just don't want another monthly bill.
