Doesn't seem like it's a matter of can't.Yeah but it'll never happen because Apple can't engineer it in unlike Android manufacturers (who also fit in bigger batteries, better cameras IP68, wireless charging etc).

The iPhone/iPad already supports FAT32/exFAT. SD card formatting is a non-issue. Thing is Apple doesn't want to support generic file system access. How would Apple even go about doing this?
Use ext4 and then some 3rd party software for compatibility?
Or better yet, use HFSX like the iPhone and only Macs can write/read the SD cards?
I'd love to have an sd slot to store pictures, audio files including audio books and not have to store them on my phone.
Call me crazy but it's a no for me. Even if the iPhone had microSD slot I would not use it at all. The iPhone currently have the fastest flash storage of any smartphone, I would rather use this and have a smooth experience than a microSD. Plus the hassle of having two separate storage, I prefer when it's simple and all in one place.
However I totally understand everyone that wish iPhone had microSD slot because Apple is charging a lot for this extra space.
No thanks. I do not like thieves can steal my content, just by removing the memory card. So rather pay more - or as I do now: to pay for all the space I need in the cloud.
You know, nothing would stop you from simply not using the SD storage even if it was offered. I might not use it either, but I don't see much of a downside to having the option.
Exactly. Unbelievable that over 50% couldn't just not use it, they want others to not be able to use it either. Apple fanatics are one of a kind for sure.![]()
Well you get a point, that was kind of selfish from me.You know, nothing would stop you from simply not using the SD storage even if it was offered. I might not use it either, but I don't see much of a downside to having the option.
I'm not trying to start another debate over it but I've seen similar attitudes in the headphone jack discussions. There's always the "I don't use this feature, so don't offer it so no one else can either" mentality.
No, the 'mentality' is that ancient legacy design is ugly and backwards, rather than beautiful and forward-thinking like Apple devices should be. Many here would vote "yes" for a full size USB port on the iPhone too. Why not, you could just ignore it right?

Bringing up a full sized USB port on a phone is a strawman argument...
So there should be only 16gb devices since cloud storage is forward thinking, right?
Not in this place. People argue everyday here that they should be able to plug a mouse into an iPad.

Well, I've lived with a 16 GB iPad for two years because of that 'forward thinking', but no a phone is different (for me), and I buy max storage size. I use a lot of apps, and my 6s+ is my photography workstation essentially.
I have a 64 ipad and it's really not enough, I have a 128 phone and it's fine. Would still use an sdcard slot, I have a 128 micro sd that I used in the moto x pure. Would put a ton more songs on it.
i have a ton of photography apps on my phone, wouldn't call it my workstation though as I do the dslr images on the mac.
I don't know of anyone here that has phone data, just uses them with wifi, as by far most have pay as you go and not even great home internet. So it will be a long time before people do things like play music from the cloud.
I'm kinda curious where you live, as you've mentioned having very poor wireless internet options on a number of occasions, which seems weird to me in this day and age if you're living in any urban or even suburban location.
Same situation whenever I go on vacation in the Philippines. Cellular data can be pretty unreliable. There's actually a lot of people with smartphones (mostly cheap Android ones) on prepaid who don't subscribe to cellular data. Makes sense when minimum wage is less than ~US $200/mo and data is $20/mo or more than 10% of one's income.I'm kinda curious where you live, as you've mentioned having very poor wireless internet options on a number of occasions, which seems weird to me in this day and age if you're living in any urban or even suburban location.
Latin America.
I bring my laptop with me plus a couple of 2.5" HDDs (2-4TB) and use that as my portable media server/HTPC (have Plex and Emby installed).
Last I checked, laptops still fall under the definition of portable. Besides, the HDDs are smaller than an iPhone 6 so carrying a couple of them isn't exactly a hardship. You really should have put "portable" in quotes.
With a rumored 256gb iPhone, I don't have any need for more storage. The space can be better utilized.
