Stranger Things (Netflix)

I just figured that David Harbour (the Sheriff) is the bad CIA guy in Quantum of Solace. I also suspect that Paul Riser is reinforcing his heavy credentials. :)

S2:Ep3 Polliwog- terrifying ending, at least I thought so.
It’s hard to believe that after the Upside Down and the Monster, that finding a strange critter in a trash can would not raise alarm bells immediately. The dog got et, but at least Dustin is still alive (next episode).

S2:Ep4 Will The Wise- The story is really heating up.

Just finished Season 2, and the series has gone from good to awesome! I’d call this a high point, but as it moves to the next season, I wonder if...

... it’s going to be more of the same or something new?
  • This threat was resolve, but the Mind Flayer is still there and it just can’t be more of the same. I’ll wait and see, with fingers crossed, that I’m delighted in a new way. :)
  • So sad to see Bob go.
  • Happy they did not throw Steve Harrington under the bus and he remained viable to the story after his breakup with Nancy Wheeler.
  • I stand corrected on Paul Riser’s heavy status.
  • I have to assume El’s sister will be around next season, or why spend an episode on that?

I am hoping we get to find out what happened to nine and ten!

The Lost Sister they devoted most of an episode to, what was her number? I think there is a high probability this is where they head next season.

She was eleven. It is funny you mention that episode as it is the weakest episode of the season for me. I liked seeing her powers, but I didn't like the group she was with and I didn't like her character. I have a feeling we might see her again.

I hope you are right regarding next season! I want to know what happened to them all!

That episode felt like a detour to me with future possibilities.. I understand the sister wanting vegence, but whom were these other people? She seemed to be the only one with gifts, but I had issues with their anarchist life style. It did show there was a distinct difference between El and her sister, her refusal to take a life under the circumstances she was presented with.

Agreed, it actually felt like a fill in with oh, here is another one of the gifted children. Look how messed up she is and look who she runs with episode. Other than that, the season was really good!

008 (Kali)

I hope season 3 doesn't go there.

I love the D&D kids, the town of Hawkins, the school, etc. I have no interest in what I saw of Kali, her gang, the city, and a revenge killing spree storyline. I appreciate that Eleven had to look into her roots, but I am also very glad that she rejected what she found and returned to the people who love her and need her.

Also if the story switches to a bunch of the super power kids banding together to fight "the man", then this show is just going to turn into Heroes or X-Men and lose all of its charm.

i was peaking at some episodes with my wife over the holiday as we both took the same vacations for Christmas/New Years. it's very good. i need to watch the first couple of episodes of each season since i missed those.

Yes, 8! Doh, I had it as Eleven which is our girl. DOH!

Funny, same here. Just watched that episode (or tried to) twice this week, ended up getting bored and fiddling about on my phone.

Not sure why, but I just don't find that group interesting. It's not as if the first season (and rest of season 2) is exceptionally new or original, it's just really well written and cast.

2019 Season 3- Good! Some suspension of disbelief required. More gruesome than previous seasons. Watch the end past the first set of credits. More gate action. Season 4 seems assured. I assume S4, which seems assured will be more of the same story subject as the last 3 seasons.

  • Suspension of disbelief part: Russians in Hawkins built a huge secret facility with huge power requirements under the local mall to open the gate to the upside down world and no one notices? I suppose. ...
  • The Russian heavy reminds me of Arnold’s acting style.
  • I was not convinced of Hopper’s fighting ability against the Russian at the end. The funhouse was believable, but he should have popped a cap in the Russky’s Head then. Yea hindsight. ;)
  • Is Hopper dead? At the very end, the scene switches to Kamchatka, Russia, where they walk by a cell, and a Russian says, Not the American. Good teaser. :)

I also liked season 3, but I think it required even more suspension of disbelief than prior episodes.

Aside from your point about the underground complex, which would have required a lot of heavy equipment, building supplies, and so on, I thought that some of the transitions between comedy and horror were very unrealistic. For example, although Dustin and Suzie's Neverending Story duet was cute, I don't imagine that Dustin would have put up with it that long knowing what was at stake. I also thought that the scenes with Steve and Robin and the Russians didn't make sense — they came out from their ordeal relatively unscathed.

I guess we'll have to wait until season 4 to find out if Hopper is the American in the Soviet cell. But given where he was standing when Joyce turned the keys and that everyone else was blown away, it's going to take some explaining if he survived. Reminds me a bit of Jon Snow in Game of Thrones — did he or didn't he?

I watched all of season 3 in one sitting and wow, it was good. I’m excited for season 4 which will most likely be the last season, sadly.

I sure hope Hopper is somehow not dead, I know it’s highly unlikely but in a town like Hawkins anything can happen. And Alexei was easily my favourite character in the new season, it made me so sad to see him go, especially when he was so happy before he was shot. But that’s just how TV shows work I guess.

He dove down a hatch at the right time. :D

From what I've read, season 4 is a virtual certainty despite the lack of confirmation by Netflix. There are even reports that shooting is slated to begin this fall, which would likely mean a mid-2020 release. But the writers will have to deal with the fact that the actors are growing up quickly. Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas, will turn 18 in October, and several of the others aren't far behind.

Interestingly, the show's timeline is getting into the years when Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) started to become well known in films like Heathers and Beetlejuice. It would be really funny to include scenes from one of those movies in the show like they did with Back to the Future and have one of the characters point out Winona Ryder's resemblance to Joyce. If you go forward another six years, she starred in Reality Bites with Ethan Hawke, Maya (Robin) Hawke's father, but I don't think Stranger Things will get that far.

I would hope it would get a season four. From what I have read and heard, it was one of the biggest shows for Netflex, especially this last season.

That would be freaking awesome by the way!!!

There's no reason for it to be mid-2020 release. Season 3 took much longer to make than Season 2. I would kind of expect the same for the next season.

Plus, with the mid-credit scene from the last episode and the directors talking about definitely doing a third and a four-season, there's no doubt Netflix will announce the fourth season soon. Maybe in a month or two.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about release. Apparently, season 3 had a 7-month shooting schedule and wasn't released until about 8 months after shooting ended. So, if the October start date is accurate, that would mean an early 2021 release. I don't know when post-production on season 3 wrapped, though, so it's possible they could shave some time off that estimate.

Funny, I completely missed that scene because I was so used to not watching the credits and going on to the next episode as quickly as possible. I've heard about it, though, and have to remember to watch it.

He's definitely alive. They can't just kill Joyce's boyfriends every season.

I'm curious to know how he lived.

I wonder if El will use her powers to look for him and then finds out the Russians are still at it. Season4 begins lol
